- I build a long sought after kit from the early 2000s and install it on the layout. I employ the use of my 3D printers to make some unique details, set up and install my homemade LED lights, and experiment with inkjet printer decals. I also demo some of my brick painting and weathering techniques.

Hi Norm, My husband enjoys watching your channel and I was watching this episode with him and I must say you are so creative, a talented artist and less we forget attention to detail you don't miss a beat!! Thanks for sharing your talent with us all!
Norm, I've been watching you since the very beginning. You went from vids that had us thinking "How'd he do that" to now showing us the process. Either way, no one can do it quite like you. The building and scene turned out great. Thanks for the step by step video. Enjoyed every minute of it.
Thanks a lot Dave!
Can you explain or show how you printed and applied those painted on signs?@@normstrains
INCREDIBLE attention and thoroughness. Thank you, immensely.
Thanks Norm that was an awesome build. It was nice to bring us along.
Wow, 3 rail! Unreal detail.
GENIUS BRAVO NORM BRAVO!
Absolutely incredible work, Norm! You continue to outdo yourself! We really enjoyed this video 👍
You're workmanship is so awesome love your channel
Another great video, Norm. Your structure work is nothing short of amazing, and I love when you video the process
Thanks for taking us through this process. It was fascinating! Northbrook is a fascinating little town with a great feel to it thanks to your creativity.
You make great project building's, i really like them alot.
I appreciate how you share your “mistakes” with us. As terrific as your layout looks, it is a work in progress.
Beautiful Norm…Great ideas… thank you
👏🤞🤙🔥👍👌🤓🇺🇸🦫💪..... Bravo as always...... God is in the details....
I really like seeing your 3d details come to life. Really makes the structure top notch. You should consider adding metal racks for steel bar and tube and L-stock, etc.... Make a rack, with a roof to keep the water off it. Put it on the concrete pad, opposite the side door, along the tracks.
That’s a good idea. It’s one of the details I’ve been wanting to do for all my shops. I have some bar racks in white metal made by a little company called Kramer products on my pegboard.
@@normstrains I just assumed you would 3d model and print them
@normstrains your railroad is amazing. I model in HO, but if I ever considered switching to O, it would be due to your videos. Your weathering is just about perfect. It makes the trains look more realistic than brass that may be 2x more detailed and prototypically scaled.
Thank you for sharing how you did this build. It turned out great, and I learned a lot! Keep em coming.
The dream shake looks like the honey i shrunk the kids house a bit to me.
That machine shop really puts me in mind of my dad's machine shop. That means that I'll have to make one for my layout!
Your attention to details blows me away! I stumbled onto your channel tonight and thought at first I was looking at a place I used to live! When you put your hand into the video I actually jumped a bit. Absolutely fantastic work! Thank you for sharing.
Just beautiful you do a awesome job
Great build. Your machine shop parts are beleivable enough to give me flashbacks to my time in a tool and die shop.
You do great work! Love you videos.
Very nice job Norm. I love the era you chose and the layout of the town is spectacular in correlation to the RR. We appreciate your attention to the details with fine descriptions of products. Keep up the great work!
Very Nice stuff -- I like ur style!
I like the concrete, very prototypical with the cracks it always seems to have after a few years.
Absolute Awesomesauce! Wonderful detail. I just discovered your channel .and will be checking out your older videos as well.👍👍
Always enjoy watching your videos Norm! Phenomenal work. If you ever want to sell that stone mill, let me know!
Incredible Video Norm! Your work has impressed me a lot over the years!
Hey Norm, really nice kits full of detail and character. This is something I always look for when scratch building for my newly resurrected layout. Your layout looks absolutely amazing
Good luck on the new layout efforts!
if there's no toilet in the machine shop, maybe that shack could be an outhouse?
Always excited to see a new video from you Norm! The level of detail you get into is awesome, keep up the great work!
Norman with your wizardry you’re like the Harry Potter of model railways mate 👍🙂🇬🇧
Very nice build Norm, the 3D printed down spouts came out
great with those scupper boxes at the top!! Maybe you could fit the building in that you had there for a small office
and rest room.
You're layout is truly amazing. Very nice build and the final scene looks great...
Extraordinary attention to detail. I've enjoyed a few of your other vids, and I like your philosophy of what goes where. Look forward to more.
Looks great Norm. Love the scene and how well it all fits together. Great job.
Thanks man!
Norm great video on how you paint and weather buildings. I liked the technique you shared using wall spackle to mortar bricks, very useful advice!
Out of this World Good!!!
Thanks for sharing, it's a Master Class.
Thank you for another enjoyable video!
It came our wonderful. Keep having fun.
Hey thanks a lot!
Great videos. Has anyone told you? You sound exactly like Rob Schneider in Duce Bigalow. Very easy to listen too. And you have great skills
😂 thanks man!
Freakin genius, a joy to watch the process.
Awesome addition! Great video and a great looking shop.
Amazing work 🚂🔥🔥✊
I enjoy watching your videos very much. I love the work you do. You mentioned about toning down the logo on the building. If you dry brush the original brick color onto the sign it will tone it down and give it a more weathered look.
I’ve done this on some of of my older paper signs. I decided to leave this one alone. Maybe on the next one I’ll try making a ghost sign. Will definitely stick with the decals though, I liked the way they turned out.
Your work always amazes me!!! thanks
They may have used an outhouse out back anyway for a bathroom.
Great work!
Brilliant. Amazing how much more detail you can get in O Scale.
Hey that's me sat on ma porch in the grey house back yonder! kinda sore I can't see the trains too well no more since they took out that lil' ol' oil house and brung in that big new fancy printing place, ah guess it brings a bit mo' industry to town tho so that ain't no bad thing, seem kinda low on staff tho, hell ah might take a walk over thar maself n see about maybes getting me a job... maybes...
Hi Norm…relatively new subscriber…really impressed with the detail you’re putting into your buildings…have you ever considered making the 3D printer details you’ve designed available for download or purchase?
Great work Norm. Ever seen Laurence Geiringer’s miniatures?
Please do more structures and scenery!!!!!!
I hope to do more in the near future. They don’t seem to get the hits a big steam vid gets though 😢
@@normstrains I love them!! Thanks
Norm you need a potbelly stove in there.
👍👌✌
Great modeling, structures are my favorite part of the hobby. What do you use for your concrete color, the color of the floor? Thanks.
Rustoleum Camo Khaki is my go-to but I think I used Sand on this one. Look here: www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/specialty/camouflage-spray-paint
Monarch (pronounced just like the butterfly) was/is an actual machine tool builder (lathes & milling machines).
I enjoy and learn something new with all of your videos. Have you considered doing a CZcams series or DVD concerning 3D printing? I would like to learn about them and how to use them. I have not even seen one. Thanks.
There are much better channels already out there for that sort of thing. I do show glimpses of the process in several vids but I have yet to do a standalone one dedicated to my use of them.
@@normstrains Thank you.
I will have to look for them. It seems like it would be fun and fascinating.
Great video. I am inspired. I could not quite make out the name of the Ebay seller you mentioned that made these kits.
Treefactory was the guy. I haven’t watched his listings in a while. I was hoping he’d reissue the factory flat i talked about.
@normstrains I'll see if still have the mold for the atlas warehouse flat. I'll let you know by the weekend.
@@guitarandstuff3513 🤩 that would be awesome
Looks so realistic so awesome ! Are you going to bring power to the shop?
amazing details the 3D printers offer and your ability to bring it all together. Is this a time slip (-:
Norm, excellent video. The scupper and downspouts you printed are exactly the style that I need for a scratch build I'm doing. I've been looking for the detail parts but have been unable to identify. Do you sell any of your prints or the printer file? Thanks in advance.
I can share the Tinkercad no prob. You can export the .stl as is or you can modify the design if you want. Let me know…
Norm - I was curious if you purchased o-scale laser engraved brick sheets for the walls of your larger/taller buildings or do you kit bash brick walls to build them to a desireable height? Thanks for sharing everything you do. Your layout inspired me to jump from HO to O.
I used quite a bit of Plastruct O scale brick sheets in the past. Rough Brick 91606 is their p/n.
You are so good at modeling. An inspiration for sure. How do you use your resin printer safely do you print in the garage? I have heard that resin produces a lot of fumes. Btw if you are looking for a new FPM printer the bambu labs printers are awesome! I have two now :)
Thanks man! I use water washable resin so it’s not too stinky. I also have pretty good ventilation in my basement shop where I do most of my projects.
Love your work. Have you ever tried the Proses magnetic clamps? They're great for building kits.
Might have to check those out. Those guys make some neat stuff.
You can use drywall sanding paper for your roof. It even comes in black. No painting required. As always great job.
I'll have to check that out. The bandage tape is kinda expensive. I like to paint my rolled roofing a dark gray then give it a black wash.
WOW.......
Beautiful buildings... I would definitely put them in your layout... By the corner store what kind of old car is that? Been looking for a couple for my layout... Thanks joe .. I subscribed and liked cause your building's are great. Need to. Check out more videos right now., joe
The Ford near the cigar store? That’s an Athearn O scale model.
Hi. This looks fantastic. What scale are the models, please?
Thanks, this is O scale.
Fantastic , do you also publish your 3D designs ?
I've shared a few of the Tinkercads here and there.
Hi Norm, Great video and build! Do you share or sell the .stl files for your 3D prints?
I’ve shared quite a few via Tinkercad.
3D printed stuff where'd you get those files at
The Bridgeport and some of the lathe parts were found on Grabcad. The press and other things were my own designs on Tinkercad.
Norm, where did you get the decal paper? What type of printer
Always impressed with your work
I got it from eBay. Koala 🐨 is the brand. I just have a fairly mundane HP inkjet in my office.
What kind of 3d printer do you recommend and what's a good price just your thoughts please thinking of getting one and don't know where to start thank you
Hi Norm. Any thoughts on using a laser printer instead of an ink jet ?
Can it print white letters?
@@normstrains I'm not sure actually. Never tried. What medium did you print your signage onto ?
@@mikep95133 clear decal paper made for inkjets.
@@normstrains I'll look into it. Thanks.
Sir good morning aap ki house building model bahut hi achhe lagte ha aap hindi language me bataya kare harpal india
St for future reference your 1mm I.d. conduits work out to about a 2in conduit when scaled up yeah a little big but there no way you could find smaller that will allow wire so oh well😂😂😂😂
1mm = 1.89" in O scale. If I could find thinner tube I'd use it. I have successfully soldered 40AWG magnet wire in the past.
You do beautiful work, but I have to say the quick & constant camera movements made me dizzy & hard to watch, so I wound up skipping forward & didn't watch the whole video. But again, your work is beautiful.
Hey I love your layout! I have so many questions! Is it possible to contact you via email or something if you
Wouldn’t mind? I just got a house with a basement so my Railroad is starting soon!!
See I can see a well worn path on that hill behind it with a privy on top of it…. 🫢
That’s a good idea!
