The night the trailer for Phantom Menace was premiered, I happened to be hosting a party. I remember walking through the house casually mentioning that if anyone wanted to come to the living room, we had recorded Entertainment Tonight and were going to watch the trailer that was included at the end of the show.
Within five minutes there wasn't a patch of floor space available, and everyone was dead silent as we all had our childhoods reawakened. Afterwards, every pocket of conversation throughout the house was filled with people trading stories of their original trilogy experiences. It was a good party.

You catch an astonishing amount of detail. You’re right, if Qui Gon hadn’t died, he would have been able to train anakin correctly. He defies the council at times because the Jedi are prideful and wrong on certain things. Anakin is complex and emotional and powerful and he needs balance. He is the manifestation of balance in the force. Teaching him purely the dogmatic Jedi view was wrong.

Exactly! Gui Gon would have been the father figure and the Master Anakin needed, and I agree the Jedi had strayed from what they should have been, many people say the Jedi and the Republic itself had become corrupt and apathetic in a way. The Jedi council was far too involved in politics instead of adhering to the will of the Force, which Qui Gon talks about. It was the fault of the Jedi in many ways that lead to the fall of Anakin

I don't know, I feel like Qui-Gon might have messed Anakin up even worse. Being told since you were 9 years old that you were The Chosen One who was destined to bring balance to the Force is a MASSIVE amount of pressure to put on a kid. Fun fact: Jar Jar was originally meant to be a secret Sith Lord. There are numerous visual clues throughout the movie, such as Jar Jar's ability to leap abnormally high (a trait typically seen in Jedi), his seeming insane luck throughout the battle of Naboo (in reality his force precognition), and he even uses the Jedi mind trick in a few scenes to influence other characters, seen as a subtle hand gesture (given that he's entirely computer-animated, this is impossible to be a mere coincidence).
Given what he does in the sequel, essentially giving unlimited power to Chancellor Palpatine and paving the way for the Empire, it stands to reason that he was the REAL "Phantom Menace", operating in the shadows the entire time. This was all but confirmed by both George Lucas and Ahmed Best (the actor who plays Jar Jar) on Twitter.
Given his unpopularity with the fans, Lucas decided to retool the story and relegate the character to the background, for the most part (his granting of emergency powers to Palpatine remained, however). Jar Jar was originally seen as something of a dark mirror image of Yoda, a character when introduced is seen as a goofy, slightly annoying and mischievous type, but is later revealed to be a wise and powerful Jedi Master. Jar Jar was intended to be the evil version of that.

Star Wars was originally aimed at 12-14 year olds. In 1978, I was working in a print shop printing Star Wars coloring books. They included scenes from Episode 1and 2 , 20 years before those movies were made. If you watch the documentaries on the making of Episodes 1-3, they'll mention how Lucas showed up one day with some extra story boards. Those were pages from the coloring books! They included the Droid factory scene from Episode 2.

Qui Gon Jinn was really Anakin's best chance at not turning to the dark side. Qui Gon really was faithful to the force and doing what was right. He didn't care about the counsel and believed in the prophecy. And bringing balance can be interpreted many ways. You can think that when Vadar kills the Emperor that he "brought balance" again...or that having Luke become a Jedi but he deals with both Light and Dark side abilities and Leia's children do the same...so you can say they are more "balanced" force users.

    28:17 I believe it’s a power station.
If you’re curious, Darth Maul uses an extremely aggressive fighting style called Juyo that is immensely physically demanding. It’s fast and vicious, easily overwhelming even the staunchest defenses, but leaves the user occasionally vulnerable. Without Maul’s rigid warrior training, he’d be at serious risk of cutting himself with his own attacks. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan both use Ataru, an acrobatic and similarly aggressive fighting style that trades impressive agility and offense for practically zero defense or stamina. Qui-Gon is quite impressive to have as long and well as he did given his chosen discipline. It was his master’s death at Maul’s hands that convinced Obi-Wan to switch to the more defensive and stamina efficient Soresu style.

Anakin's fall is actually quite poetic it's not unlike the fall of the Nazgul in LOTR. Anakin is good and he wants to stop bad things from happening, so he seeks the power to do so but when he gets the power he doesn't want to give it up, like everybody who does evil by trying to do good he ceases to think about other peoples ideas of good. However when a traumatic event shatters his world view he no longer concerns himself with right and wrong he just gives up on everything and everyone becoming the sword of the empire. It is said that the only happiness in his life was when he worked on his personal tie fighter, like he worked on his pod racer when he was a child.

Well i would not put it like that. Nazgul were human kings that were greedy. To think that you will be able to do good with more power, wherever that power comes from, is foolish and a way to justify being greedy. For Anakin there is an ingredient of depression, and no wonder. His goal was to become a jedi to free all the slaves including his mother, and in the end..... so he did not become a jedi to do good for people he did not know and for society has a whole. Qui gon and the others misses Anakins own intentions and dreams, his world where his mother is still his everything. For Luke this is a whole different story.

A viceroy is akin to a military governor usually tasked with maintaining a kingdom's control over a foreign colony. It isn't necessarily a military post, but viceroys often command a good deal of military power to maintain their territory on behalf of their king. You'll see viceroys associated with naval force quite often throughout history. And the giant place where Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, and Darth Maul were fighting is, I believe, the primary power plant for the entire capital city. Hence, the scale. Queens on Naboo are not hereditary. The office is similar to that of a president in a constitutional democracy, only with "Queen" as the title. Similarly, the royal palace is more a municipal building where the city's infrastructure finds its nexus than a lavish dwelling or fortification.

I mean it always made sense to me, its world-building. The rebel ships are all dirty and clunky, they've obviously been fixed up and repaired many times over, which makes sense because the rebels have limited resources, they have to make do with what they have. They use their ships a lot and can't afford to throw anything away. Naboo on the other hand is a small but wealthy independent "country". They rarely ever see combat, its like the National Guard, so their ships are well maintained and they can afford better hardware.
