  • I'm Donnalouise - a puzzled puzzler puzzling puzzles who's perhaps figured out a better way to tape large jigsaw puzzles into sections without introducing distortions meaning - NO GAPS BETWEEN SECTIONS!! What do you think? Should I glue? Professionally frame? Add a trim moulding? Or just leave as is? I'd love to read your thoughts so comment below. Enjoy!!!

      I think you are more flexible to decide what you do next with the puzzle when you leave it as it is. And it took you so much time to build it, everyone should see that - it is a puzzle and no picture.

    I think it looks beautiful just the way it is. Such a pretty colourful image without a frame. I like being able to see all the puzzle pieces and you can see it’s a puzzle when watching your videos. It wasn’t obvious with the antique world map one and I think having the puzzle effect behind you adds to the puzzling theme of your channel. ❤

      Thanks! I do like being able as well to see that it's a puzzle.

    It's amazing to see it up on the wall. Looks good to me! I'm sure you made a decision and I will soon be learning about it...!

    I think the molding would look great, but It's looking good as is as well., It is such a fun picture!

      It's so much fun to look at and the colours really pop! I think moulding would give it that extra little bit as well.

    I like the idea of adding a moulding. I had a similar thought for my Clementoni Summer Flowers and Cup of Tea. It is up but looks a little plain. I thought of having hubby make a frame out of leftover chair rail moulding that we have plenty of extra from a project to see how it looks. It might be too chunky and overwhelming - it will be an experiment in September.

      @fortheloveofpuzzles  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Even if you just held up the moulding to the puzzle and had a look, might be able to tell if too chunky. And if you want, you could just use some of those Command Strips to put the moulding up temporarily - so if you don't like it, you wouldn't have made holes in the wall. I'm thinking moulding would really make mine pop and standout as well.

    I like the idea of using moulding directly on the wall to frame it in. I think adding glue will help protect thr puzzle a bit since it's not going to be behind glass in a traditional picture frame .

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles  Před 11 měsíci +1

      I never thought about the glue being a protective layer - that's a definite good thing. I should ask at the jigsaw puzzle display (Wood Solutions) what moulding they have - I think they can cut like hundreds of different designs.

    It looks beautiful. I have a 3000 piece beach scene puzzle I glued to frame, but it was going to be $250.00 US so I'm leaning toward the molding strips method. Or having a friend if ours make one for us. Love your videos!

      @fortheloveofpuzzles  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Moulding would definitely be a more affordable option - and I think it would look lovely even though not a "real" frame. So please you enjoy my videos! Thanks for watching and commenting

      It is beautiful! Spoiler - I might move it down to the jigsaw puzzle display! But then I'll end up with a blank wall again! Oh well, just means I'll have to get more puzzles!!!

    It looks sensational, Donnalouise!!! Professionally framing it would cost six gazillion dollars, but the crown molding is a great idea. So glad it brings you joy every day.

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles  Před 10 měsíci +1

      I do think moulding would be the way to go with this one. I would estimate the framing to be between 800-1,000 NZD. I just love having it up on the wall - it's so much nicer in person to look at.

    I tried a lot of things: gluing them (varnish-style glue on top), taping them on the back, whole or in sections, taping them and gluing them... in short, a bit of everything! In the end, I realized that for puzzles with heavy pieces, taping them to the back alone was unreliable. On sunny days, when it's warm, the tape glue has to soften and ... it comes off in sections! And while I'm at it, it tends to drag everything else along with it... so now I tape the back and then put two layers of puzzle glue on the front to be on the safe side. The tape to give a base to my double-sided adhesive before putting it on the wall, and the glue to give a varnish and cohesion between the pieces, and as it fits between the gaps it reinforces the tape glue.
    I'm not sure how clear this is. But in the end, it's not very expensive, I don't have to use high quality tape, it holds really well and it looks great!

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles  Před 10 měsíci

      I could imagine in the puzzle is exposed to sun or high temperatures, that would affect the pieces staying stuck to the backing tape. Luckily here in New Zealand, I don't really have that worry as our climate is pretty mild. I'm thinking that I will end up gluing the front to protect the pieces and I do love the finish that it give the overall puzzle. I'd probably do at least 2 coats and think I may just have enough of my matte Mod Podge remaining to do it.

    I like the matted glue look myself. Amazon has bigger glue bottles for 38 US$ so I would do that then put the wall framing up around d it......Great idea. Goodluck.

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Unfortunately, I can't order from Amazon here in New Zealand - we can get some things shipped in but it is so expensive. I do also love the look of a matte finish. I'm leaning towards gluing it and putting moulding directly on the wall.

  • @LJG7654
    @LJG7654 Před 10 měsíci +1

    It looks great! As long as the tape is holding strong, I think you don't have to glue it. I'd go with a frame, because then you could move it easier. That being said, putting the framing directly on the wall would likely be quicker and cheaper but less moveable.

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles  Před 10 měsíci +2

      If I frame it, then I would need to glue it. The framer wouldn't trust that it would stay together otherwise. They framed my Antique World Map and even asked me to put on a third coat just to make sure it stays all together. I do think moulding would be the way to go to keep it affordable. And if I just did moulding, I wouldn't bother glueing it either.

    @artokilponen6989 Před 10 měsíci +1

    Looks great in my opinion like that. I like a lot of the idea of trying different approaches, so moulding would be interesting to see how it turns out.

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles  Před 10 měsíci +2

      Thanks! I think it looks great also. The nice thing about moulding is that I could get small samples and just stick them up with Command Strips to see which one I like best. And then I can paint/stain any colour I like.

  • @MathIsMagical
    @MathIsMagical Před 10 měsíci +2

    I think if you glue it you would have to glue it as one piece because the glue would remove the flexibility you built into the taping you did. I think the molding is a good idea as then you can attach it with command strips as well. It would make the display easier to store/change if you want then a professional frame but will make it look more like art and less like a poster.

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Yeah, if I glued it, I would finish taping across the joins and glue it all as one piece. It would be really big then! Using command strips for the moulding is a great idea as if I don't like it, it would be easy enough to remove. So many options!

    The puzzle looks fabulous as is, without glue or frame. Because of the image, it has the effect of looking like a tapestry hanging.

  • @lavernehodge3320
    @lavernehodge3320 Před 10 měsíci +1

    I think it looks incredible the way it is. If you wanted, you could always hold up molding against it to see if you liked the molding without actually committing. A beautiful image to make you smile.

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles  Před 10 měsíci +1

      I was thinking that I might ask at Wood Solutions where the puzzle display is on for some moulding samples just to see what it would look like.

    I would try the molding with a piece of plexiglass.

      @fortheloveofpuzzles  Před 10 měsíci +2

    My opinion glue the front with of the puzzle to protect the image then frame it. Is puzzle glue is expensive. If you can find puzzle glue at the Dollar Tree.

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles  Před 10 měsíci +1

      I do think glue is smart as it would give a protective coat to it. We don't have Dollar Tree here in New Zealand. We do have dollar stores but I've never seen puzzle glue in them - tend not to shop at them much as the quality really is poor. I would spend the money on Mod Podge if I were to glue it just because I know it'll work and look great.

      It is a very nice look to be able to see the puzzle pieces. And so much easier if you don't glue them! 💜🧩
