  • In this video, I explain how bitcoin passphrases work.
    Passphrases act as a second layer of protection on top of your seed phrase. You need both the seed words and the passphrase to access your wallet and your bitcoin.
    This is a brief explanation. My intention is to emphasize that you can not lose your passphrase.
    For a deeper dive, see this ColdCard tutorial. Useful even if you are not a ColdCard user:

    Your channel needs to blow up. I am shocked you don't have at least 500k subscribers by now. Love your videos.

    The problem with the passphrase as it is used and explained today is that most users will create a passphrase that will be neither strong nor random, providing very little protection against attacks but putting their wallets at great risk.

    Great video! Why does test net look identical to the actual network? How do you toggle between the two?

    • @SouthernBitcoiner
      @SouthernBitcoiner  Před měsícem

      They are essentially the same thing, but testnet produces blocks a lot quicker and coins are worthless.
      I have a video on testnet, check my channel for that

    If I create passphrase using sparrow. Is same passphrase required if i use a different software other than sparrow? Assuming same seed phrase in use.

    • @SouthernBitcoiner
      @SouthernBitcoiner  Před měsícem +1

      Yes. The same seed phrase + passphrase will be needed across all software / hardware.
      However some wallets might not support it

    Once pass phrases are set/saved (ie in Cold Card), can you change/add/remove those pass phrases?

    • @SouthernBitcoiner
      @SouthernBitcoiner  Před měsícem

      Yes, you can add a new passphrase at any time. But that new passphrase will unlock a completely different wallet

      My question is:
      I already setup & stored #btc in a ColdCard wallet with 24 seed words. Can I remove/ delete/ edit those existing seed words OR do I have to buy a new CordCard and set it up with other/ different seed words

    • @SouthernBitcoiner
      @SouthernBitcoiner  Před měsícem

      No, you are free to set up a new wallet at any time. No need to buy a new one.
      Just ensure you have the old one backed up if there is bitcoin on it

      @@iliaspananidis3988You can not change any info on your existing wallet !! You can however create a new wallet to your liking within the same Coldcard AND move your coins from the existing wallet to your new wallet. You can NOT any info in any new wallets, you can only move coins in between wallets if it makes sense.

      I had the same question. Re-setting your hardware wallet that has bitcoin and creating a new seed phrase will not affect the bitcoin at the original seed phrase. You could re-set the wallet again and enter in the original seed phrase and your bitcoin will still be there.
