Clip strings at the 12th fret, it's half way between the bridge and nut. Makes it easy to stack the old strings like 12 inch straws and bend them and wrap them into a circle before tossing them into the trash.

If personally love my trem on these...I put only two springs on the outside of the claw, and loosened the screws holding the claw to the body. Also I lubricated it with ptfe ( graphite) lubes on the springs, it is really smooth now. If I was gonna put a trem in it, it would be a dusenberg.

Excellent and most comprehensive video about Vega-Trem! I have one in box, ready to install on Squier strat, and this was helpful. Main complaint I've read from people on internet, is sharp saddle height screws. In this case, we must try this crazy idea: replace with shorter screw. 😉 Virtually every bridge with saddles like this I have owned have screws that are too long. If manufacturer installed shorter screws, many people would complain they are not long enough, haha. I haven't measured Vega-Trem saddle height screws, but a quick look, and I will make guess of 3mm diameter x 8mm length. It's conceivable that they could be 4-48 or 4-40 like some American strats, but considering Spanish origin of Vega-Trem, I will guess 3mm. You may buy packages of screws, called grub screws, set screws, cup point screws, etc, very cheap on eBay. One of my favorite sellers, Monster Bolts (on eBay and their own website), even sells them under name of "guitar saddle height screws" in various lengths and combo packs...specifically market toward guitar people. I keep all various sizes in my kit for different guitars. My guess is 3mm x 6mm length would be perfect replacement for Vega-Trem, in stainless steel...but measure first...or just buy lots of all sizes, haha, they are good to have on hand. Besides, you'll then want to replace them on all applicable guitar and bass bridge. No more scratches on hand! 😁 Thanks again for great video...I'm now even more anxious to install mine!! 😈

Hi Tony, excellent pair of videos on this system - TYVM. As regards the scratchy height adjustment grub screws, couldn't you adjust the saddles to near full height (so the screws didn't protrude) and adjust the neck tilt to compensate for the higher action? Alternatively, try sourcing a shorter set of grub screws from Vegatrem or elsewhere (more expense, of course)?
Also, I have my Strat bridge set to float (i.e. raised about 1/8" - 3/16" off the body at the back) and have not found resting my palm lightly on the bridge to be a problem.

Is my thinking wrong?

What is the benefit of this trem beyond being floating? I mean, it doesn't use a locking nut so isn't tuning stability still an issue? Does it have better tone and sustain? Not intending this to be rude, just genuinely curious. I actually like the strat style trem because it's pretty easy to set up and pretty stable but mine always goes sharp if I'm using it a lot. My ideal trem set up are the floyd's that are dive only but I would install this bridge in a heartbeat and block it to dive only if it stays in tune better.

So, don't know if you have any experience with Kahler, but I'd appreciate your opinion on how this vegatrem would compare to a locking trem. Could it benefit from a locking nut? Thanks for your time. Button head cap screws would have helped. They're half the height of the normal cap screws. But those have a smaller Allen wrench size and can strip more easily. Torx screws could solve that issue. I'd say there is a legitimate reason to have your palms on your bridge, MUTING.

@@Scott__C I'm considering buying one to test on my channel TremDoctor. Need the good, bad and the ugly. I want to see how well it stays in tune. I have Floyd Rose's, Gotoh 1996T, PRS, Schaller, and my own locking block which locks strings under the bridge plate. Not for use with Floyd Rose's but fits everything else. Locks strings at the bridge like a Floyd Does.

Good demo Tony, but I must say, it convinced me to stick with Wilkinson - style trems. This one looks unnecessarily fussy.

yeah. I almost destroyed my finger when a 15 gauge guitar string just barely missed the joint on my fretting hand
the doctor said the part of that joint is called a capsule

Those vaga terms are kinda costly though they are around 280 bucks ,the question is why put nearly 300 bucks in a $200 guitar, I guess if that's what you want whatever ,me I would just buy a guitar with floyd already installed I've got a kramer striker with a floyd it was around $600 new I also have several harley benton guitars one in which is a harley Benton s620 w/a floyd it cost $225 shipping included from thomann, I don't think I would purchase a $179 guitar and put another almost $300 in it mmmm but that's just me
