@GravityShow went BIG this year and hosted their Gravity show as a 2-day event at Birmingham's NEC. This, of course, meant that the event was now in a new price range. So I hopped into my Toyota Chaser to discover how much a full day at a car show really costs me, as well as finding out the Chaser's true MPG (something I hadn't measured before).
Of course I also managed to look around some of the best modified in the UK within the show, and later benefitted from a free meal provided by @MarkMcCann64...

Reason why I won't do Japfest anymore. Had to pay £30 to show the car which doesn't include you so you pay another £30ish to get yourself in 🤦 bare in mind there would be no show without peoples cars....

Yep, turned down 2 car shows this year. Silverstone Classic and VW Action at Santa Pod, purely due to costs. Really does annoy me when I fuel, fix and repair what is an exhibit for their show! No people like us, no show, so take your ticket price and shove it.

12.50 for a small burger and a few French fries is just as egregious as that parking lol
The biggest insult is they rip you off for parking and if someone damages or nicks your car then its, its left at your own risk... Utter bollocks.

I see the Birmingham City Council have declared themselves bankrupt - so is the NEC car park parking fee directly helping the bail out?

I've been to a few shows lately that I feel have been sub par or didn't have the vibe I could of hoped for. But we realised that the car shows are merely a place for us to get together and have a good day out with our friends. Since realising that, we can attend any show and just make our own good day out of it.
Money well spent apart from the ridiculous parking charge.....parking should be free at any venue once you have purchased a ticket.
125 quid to walk round looking at cars that just still air, wheels and attend all the same shows...fools and money are always easily parted i guess
It's not the shows being expensive, it's the result of our purchasing power being reduced every day. Soon enough the coming pay per mile charges and accelerating insurance policies will make driving unaffordable for all of us. This is all by design !

Singapore has a law you pay $80,000usd for privilege to drive and it's only good for 10yrs
Car shows aren’t really that expensive tbh, in the US, they are usually free - 50 dollars for the pretty good ones, then for like sema and massive indoor ones, they are like 75-100
American salaries are generally higher then uk

Why on earth would you pay to go look at a parking lot?
And that attitude right there is why things are so expensive. People rationalize or down play something that is too expensive and then pay it. That’s just enables it. It’s how we very quickly got things like $100k + pickups. If people stopped overpaying for things, the prices would come down. $50-100 is too much to pay to look at paying vendors items.
I've definitely been attending less this year due to costs of it all too.
one of the combe action days i went too was pretty empty thanks to the costs of display tickets (would've been extra gutted if i paid more at the door as an average punter!)
I think its was similar where last year it was £17 and this year it had jumper to £25 or £30.
I enjoy them, but will definitely be considerably more picky going into next year.

There was a separate ticket at that show which you bought online where it was reduced to £12.95

Wow! I attended a local show on the same day as this and it was £5 on the door, free to "show" your car and that was it in terms of cost other than food. They should be ashamed of themselves charging these prices in a cost of living crisis. I think I'll stick to watching your videos instead of attending now 🤣 Also I remember the days builds were builds, now e v e r y t h i n g is on air ride with wheels and they are classed as a "Build" very monotonous

It's easy to think they should be ashamed for the prices, I used to think the same until I saw the cost breakdown for Dubshed (One of the largest indoor shows in Ireland/Northern Ireland) They used to charge £10 and that covered parking & entry. Now it's £20. The reason that the cost has doubled isn't greed, it's the astronomical insurance costs and fees that the venue owners charge to allow a show to happen on the premises. As the operating costs increased, they've had to increase the price of entry to make up for the extra costs of running the show.
Obviously, the showrunners are still making some profit off it, but it's not like they're charging twice as much just to pocket twice as much.
Not sure whether this trick still works at the NEC (Not been since before COVID) as I've no idea if they are using ANPR stuff now but if you stayed until the end they left all the barriers open and none of the huts were open so you didn't have to pay 🤣

As you have to purchase the parking ticket before returning to your car, the gate being open or closed, is irrelevant.

An NEC show hack is park at resorts world and if you prove you spent about £20 you get free parking so thats essentially a free lunch or whatver else you want to buy
Top tip for anyone going nec for a show
Park in the outlet village car park then go for a Nando’s for lunch and get £3 parking!
Really good concept to film, honestly I use to be out most weekends doing similar things but the cost got way to much. Just stick to one or two shows a year now which also have motorsport going on. I rather just go on a road trip these days and build the car just for me.
ticket price is average, 18 to park up though ? Hope they supply lube for the shafting they gave you on parking . I know if I travel from Stoke to Silverstone or Castle Combe it's close to half a tank or more . With so many Japanese shows , one a month at least , going to shows isn't cheap . When your seeing the same cars each event too you can understand why many pick n choose events . That's the entry though for just you . If you have a family and they need to come with you as they are too young to be left that rockets up . Be closer to 200 plus and that's just ridiculous in these times
Living on the Lizard in west Cornwall for me it's just local shows. Usually a donation or, about three pounds. Always some catering. Beer from barrels in a tent for about £3.50. Obviously not going to see the latest hypercar but, as a rule, a hundred or two interesting things. Plus, here, vintage tractors.

Gravity always looked massively overpriced. £18 to park is a joke - rip off Britain!
Autosport this year was bad enough, not worth the money.
I bought two tickets + seating for this show, cost me nearly £100 and of course there was a train strike on that day (wasn’t aware until it was show day) which resulted in us not being able to go.
Couldn’t even re-sell the tickets as nobody wanted them. Absolutely gutted I couldn’t go and even more so that I lost £100 which they wouldn’t even refund.
8:15 was just beautiful, imagine cruising at 1am in that with chillstep 😍
Depends on the Show. I wouldn't pay a Penny for this one, nothing but Tuners, which does not interest me very much, but makes for an ok CZcams Video at least, but REVS at Bicester, with its Horizonesque Smorgasbord of everything from Pre War Classics to 300 MPH+ Hypercars via Kit Cars, Resto-Mods, Tuners, Group A Icons, and everything else in Between, would be a good use of £50 IMO, especially as it also goes to a good cause, the Lichfield foodbank, I may be *Ex* CofE these Days (Reformed Episcopal now) but I have seen the Lichfield foodbank in Action as I live in an area where it is often all too sadly needed, and know how good it is.
So for all reading this, Please, next time REVS is on at Bicester, please go!

At the British motor show , over 3 days in the motorsport arena , I went through £70 in fuel alone... cost me over £200 just in fuel to travel there and travel back and thats getting ubers back and forth to our hotel 😅😅😅

If you read the faq on the Gravity site that was the only place i found about the parking fee at the NEC. Book before you go and its "only" £12. Pretty sure my daughter and i were standing behing you when you took the photo for the thumbnail 😅

I was shocked how many miles that car does I think that’s very respectable, I run a new petrol 2.0 x1 BMW and it only returns 39.7 and that’s shocking a bit like the car but it is the wife’s so it’s ok 🤣

The average car like my polo is 45 litres (£75) to fiill (12gallons) or $94. Thats an average hatch back.
My work truck is between 100-120 liters so imagine the cost of that when fuel wasnerly £2 per liter last year 😢
We get rinsed for fuel in this country. We pay fuel duty then pay VAT (sales tax @ 20%) most of what we pay goes straight to the government.
