….to say he _lost_ his wife and daughter isn’t exactly accurate. He’s still searching for them which obviously implies they may still be alive, cryogenically frozen in a vault maybe.
Also, he is separated or divorced as they gossip about him doing kid's birthday parties to pay alimony.
I heard he took refuge in the vault that intentionally had a vault malfunction and didn't close all the way leaking radiation. Speculation.

Technically we don’t know if his wife died, as we do not see her when the bombs drop. Although his daughter is more likely to have died, this is because ghoul children are not as common in the wasteland as their bodies cannot survive the mass radiation being emitted.

I like to think he got into the vault in Bakersfield, after he figured out what his wife was he set up on his farm he always wanted. Then because the vault in Bakersfield california was one that set to have the door not seal correctly, he became a goul.

Thinking about ghouls is always so scary. Lots of them were ghouls when the bombs dropped and to spend that long without dying or becoming feral is crazy

Think he lost his wife in divorce, she was most likely in the vault but maybe not since it seemed he still had his daughter with him
It will be a local vault, he & his daughter raced there and her & her mom survived. He isn't out there looking just for his evil wife, so if he thinks his daughter survived then we got to assume she got to a vault. As we established there had been multiple nuclear events it's not certain that he suffered in this one. It's also not necessarily that he got that from being in the bomb blast. He hints that Goosey would become him after she drinks the radioactive water.
@@mcmanus260I don’t think Lucy will ghoulify, but she will become more like him as a wastelander. It already seems like they set up season 2 to focus on the duo of Lucy and the ghoul with him acting as a father figure for her in the wasteland, especially as she basically disowned her actual father. It will be interesting to see how they change since Lucy’s world was basically a lie, so she may not abide by the golden rule, while the ghoul was probably shaken by the events at super duper mart where lucy for some reason saved him even after he chopped off her finger and sold her for parts. I’d imagine in season 2 we’d see lucy become more like the ghoul while the ghoul might begin his redemption arc and would maybe attempt to prevent Lucy from becoming him. Basically it’d be cool to see the ghoul start to see Lucy as his daughter since I think that his daughter might end up being the big bad guy lol. I’m not going to be surprised if they went the fallout 4 route with the ghouls biological child ngl. Anyway I doubt this wall of run on sentences makes sense lol, hopefully it does.
@@mcmanus260also while she had radioactive water, she also got radaway from Maximus, so it’s unlikely she will ghoulify now. But maybe it’s possible in later seasons.
@@awesomecomputers7076 I never said she would goulify, I am well aware she had the radaway. All I said was the Goul hints that being exposed to radiation is enough to do it so you don't have to have been in a bomb blast. In other words it's wrong for us to assume The Goul wasn't in a vault in 2077. More of his history may be revealed in future seasons and there could be a whole narrative of him becoming a goul.

The show brilliantly positioned him as a (former) main character in the Fallout tradition by consistently referring to him by the title-like nickname "The Ghoul", like the "Vault Dweller", "Chosen One", "Lone Wanderer", "Courier" and "Sole Survivor"

The wife and daughter's locations are unknown and Cooper hasn't said they're dead. So you're throwing out bad info, for all we know they're frozen in Vault 31 or were living in another vault.

Don't assume you know the story. He could have very well been a vault dweller, and was also in a cryogenic vault.
