- What are we talking about when we talk about running? For Sinovuyo Ngcobo, like many of us, it is both simple and complicated. Growing up in rural KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, Sinovuyo has faced tremendous hardship and adversity but running has always been there for him. Initially, it was an escape but over time, running taught him lessons in perseverance, determination and self-belief. “Gijima” (From Zulu. Meaning: To Run) is an honest story, of a young boy from rural South Africa, who always had one dream… To run. It is an inspiring account of hope and courage, against all odds.
Sinovuyo is part of the incredible LIV2Run running program. LIV2Run exists without any government funding and relies entirely on support through sponsorships and donations.

I am the old guy. A 68 year old ultra runner who has viewed thousands of videos that feature running. This video is one of my favorite videos of all time. Now I know that I am ready to run another twenty years. Inspiring, insightful and perfectly presented.

What was your inspiration to start running?
A succession of bereavement in a short space of time believe it or not. I found that running a long way distracted or refocused me from the mental pain, by embracing the physical. Then came the discipline and love for running I have now. When I used to run up hard hills or feel like I couldn't go on. I used to visualise my father in his hospital bed struggling to breath and I would try to imagine how hard that must have been and how much courage he had not only to fight on but to also let go. This pulled me through and made me a strong runner today. First official race I signed up for was 28 miles trail and I had never ran more than 5k occasionally.
Sobriety, and finding maturity as I grow.
