    Amazing trip as always.
    Interestingly, Hell for sure lake looks like heaven. I am not sure why it was named like that. :)
    It's also amazing that the scenery still looks like June.
    The summit view is worth 57 miles hiking. Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!

      Thanks - and glad you enjoyed the video.
      From what I read in Secor book, they named it when they were trying to find a route for herding animals over the Goddard Divide - and probably, after they had a "what the hell" moment, the name stuck :)
      Yep - snow still heavy at high altitudes - and the view from the top is indeed stuff of legend...

    We must have just missed you! My buddy and I were at Martha Lake from about 12-1:30pm on the 23rd as well and went up toward Goddard Col, but we went right at the first lake to Goddard Creek Pass and continued on to camp at lake 11,837' for our decent down the Enchanted Gorge the next day. Did you see our footprints in the snow going up to Goddard Col?

      Yep - saw some footprints in the snow - I came 2-3 hours later I guess :) next day saw couple of people descending towards Martha - south side from the Col, but I guess were not you

      @@kalimachios yep, those footprints were ours. But no that wasn't us going back down toward Martha. We went down the Enchanted Gorge to the middle fork Kings.

    Rad trip to a great peak! Did you choose to enter from the west or was that the only available permit? With your snow experience / comfort, I am surprised you didn't elect to go over Lamarck.

      Was a good one - thx ! Came that way mostly because it was a new trail / area for me - been over Lamarck several times... Also the permits are always available from Florence :)

      Makes sense, I was curious. I'm jealous you have the time for these trips, Taking a few days for an objective must be really nice, i'm usually a little more get in get out day hike / weekends. This was an impressive undertaking.

    Great video and trip. Still a good amount of snow in Ionian. How were the mosquitos in the different areas?

    • @kalimachios
      @kalimachios  Před rokem +1

      Thanks ! glad you enjoyed ! Yes - plenty of snow in that area .. The mosquitoes were kind-of everywhere between about 9000 ft and 10200 ft - especially in wettish areas / forests. They tended to be less active in the morning (cold), but picking up by 9-10 am. Face net and repellent were quite essential.

      @@kalimachios Thanks for the info. I may head up to that area in a couple weeks, so its nice to get a conditions update.
