  • What is Daylight Saving Time and is it necessary?
That's the question many people around the globe are wondering as they prepare to change their clocks and their sleep schedules.
It turns out the practice of shifting societal schedules in order to utilized more daylight throughout the year started as a way to reduce demand on resources like candles and coal.
Today, some argue Daylight Saving Time helps reduce energy, but does it really? What's the real reason for losing or gaining that extra hour of sleep?

It doesn't save daylight. It's not like you take daylight from the summer and save it up to use in the winter. All we're doing is changing our clocks. In Central Texas, just as the days are getting longer and the nights shorter, we all get told to change our clocks and we all just do it, and kids are out there waiting for the bus in the dark again. It's stupid. It's STUPID, and WE'RE STUPID for doing it.

Permanent standard time is the quickest way to end the clock change
The current law is that states can only opt out of DST and remain on standard time permanently without congressional approval
This is due to 1966 Uniform Time Act
Permanent DST is federally prohibited in USA

We waste hours entertaining ourselves on TV, playing games, going to movies, etc. Loosing an hour in just TWO days in a year should NOT be causing so much of a fuss. Are we actually that weak a species that we can't adjust to an hour gained or lost? We do it all the time with flights across time zones. Can you PLEASE stop reporting this non-topic two times a year. We are stronger than the fuss being made over this non-issue!!!
