Debra, I have been skating since I was 8 years old. during the 70's and 80's I was a "Rink Rat"!! Now at 60+ I just bought some new Skates and i am teaching my Granddaughters' how to skate and this old man can't stop watching your video's...they make me feel like I am 16 years old again.....ALL Skate!!!!!....Rollllll Bounce!!!
At 47, backwards skating is my goal. I gotta get out and practice. Great video!
I'm a retired professional roller skater. And what I like about your video is that you're absolutely correct people tend to rely on one foot and one foot only meaning they're putting all their weight on one foot which will only lead to the your body becoming dependent to that one side and will also cause major blisters on that one foot because you're basically putting all your weight on that one foot. I see people learning how to skate backwards for the first time what I do is try to encourage them to do the butterfly first because it's a little bit easier for them and all their weight is centered in the middle of their body and I also try and encourage them to also learn how to use and control their upper because the lower part will just follow. But you are doing an amazing job and thumbs up to you. Eventually once they start getting really good skating backwards they will how to skate backwards the right way like how you were doing towards the end of the video. The right is the same way as they do it on ice skates.
Thanks Deb!
We are still waiting for those embarrassing childhood/adulthood skating stories haha
Finally! I found someone teaching backward crosspulls in a straight line. Thank you ❤️
I was cracking up at the pickle ball comment. I sk8 in Quartzsite AZ (we winter there) on an basketball court that I have to share with pickle ballers as well. It is a "multi use" facility according to the town. hahahaha
Dirty, I'm in my 40s, last skated in middle school, recently put on skates for the first time in decades and could more or less go forward reliably, but that was about it. I struggled for hours trying to figure out the backward skate thing but couldn't. Went home, watched your video while waiting for my skates to arrive today... used your adjustment video, and have been wearing them around my office. Using what I watched in your video yesterday, bam I was simply able to skate backwards. I've been skating backwards all over my house. Your teaching is the best I've found. Your understanding of the body mechanics and your ability to break it down and explain it made learning so easy. Thank you!
Hoy fui al rink y so pensaba: acuérdate lo que decía Debra en el video ❤. Tengo que decir que me fue muy bien. Thanks Debra.
Thanks Deb!
This is the video I requested on your old backwards video for cross pulls. I asked how to do it on both sides.
Essential moves in the field drill
OMG. I love Bruised Boutique! Love seeing the East Coast representation, I never expect to know the places Deb talks about. These videos are definitely helping me skate better.
My basic backwards skating is getting there so this is great for me to hit the next level.
Love this! Will work on this! I'm always going backwards and needed to take it up a notch.
The “good footing it” took me out! 😂😂😂
Looove it!
Thanks for sharing and teaching the proper techniques.
Pickle Ball that's funny ,can't get past the name 😊 I'm a good skater now for all your help getting me here
Thank you!! Will continue to practice. Thanks for the video on which skates my Hubby got me the Sure grip Fame skates they are so comfortable and they have made a difference in my skate journey.
Thanks so much for a drill to work on! God Bless you 🙏🏼❤️
Beautifully done
Your lessons are always spot on! Can’t wait to get back to skating 😊
Super great lesson Deb!! The freedom you feel when you can go backwards is amazing!! Practice, practice, practice!!😍😍🥰🥰🩵🩵🛼🛼
DIRTY!!! Im working on it...
THANK YOU
You're amazing Deborah. I've just started with my 6yo daughter. I'm 50 on July and I used to skate when I was a little girl, only forward 😅. I wish I could meet you but I'm in Spain, so a little too faraway. I'm so thankful for your kindness, your classes are awesome and I understand your English so I can't ask for more. Wish you all the best ❤
This was great! Thanks Debra!
Sooo very smooth
As I sit here w my fresh outta the box Impala roller skates 🛼 and my cane 🩼 bc my years of poor posture finally caught up w me and I pinched my sciatic nerve..could you do a video showing some exercises or stretches we could do at home to help strengthen the muscles we use when we skate? 💪🫶
OMG, you have no idea how long I've been looking for a video like this! I didn't know what this 'backward cross pulls in a straight line' skill was called, but I kept seeing a lot of people do it in videos where they were explaining other skills and I really wanted to learn how to do it. Thank you!
Dee and Eric are friends of mine. They own Bruised.
Like watching your instructional videos, I always recommend them to beginning skaters. And no more how long I have been skating I still have to do practice drills.
thanks now i can back cross
Thank you! I was trying to do this on Monday and having the worst time. I'm going to take this lesson to the rink.
I’m glad you’re still doing vids ! My wife and I just got into skating, and realized we had soft wheels taking them into the rink, so we ordered some 94a wheels - and going to be using your tips to learn to skate ! Thank you so much for posting , for being awesome, and just being yourself - we love love love your vids because of YOU 😊
Go for it. Learned in my 30s even did competitions with figures. Even be came a judge for American and international dance, figures freestyle and speed. Note this was not competition but self advancement for medals bronze silver and gold
Nice!!! I feel like I do that...but doubt I look like I'm doing that😂
Beautiful ❤
Thank you for your videos! Could you do a tutorial on the spread eagle position in skating. The instructor I have uses it for transitioning from forward to backward / backward to forward skating, and I know is a way to stop rolling. I have such trouble getting my feet in that position seemingly out of lack of flexibility! But I don’t know how or what to do to build up to that position. Thanks!
Debbie, Debbie, Deeeeeeebie....... We love your lessons here in the UK! Started skating 6 months ago after a short break of 40 years, and our progression has been amazing courtesy of your instructions.
QUESTION - I first learned to transition with the weight on one skate and on the front wheels of the other. Then I learned the Mowhawk. Now having tried to 'front to back' then straight into 'back to front' transitions it seems to have evolved into a little jump turn.
My question is - is the jumping a backward progression from the Mowhawk, or is that ok? I'm keen to make sure the solid foundations are there.
Stuff is awkward til it’s not. ❤
Dirtay, could you ALWAYS list the details of your skate setup in each video? Love your skates❤
CaLi SLide tonight ! ! !
But Deb, you make it look so easy. It no be easy!
😊😊
My issue right now I can cross pull well and transition really well turning left but turning right feels so weird even transitioning I know what I want to do but my body doesn’t understand haha
I just can't skate backwards... I just don't know why I can't get it together... ugh😞
oh i go both ways 😏
Can you please please move to Germany?! Noooooowwww! We need you here ;-))))))))))))))
Warchingg this While on a tennis court😂
Is feeling like you are falling apart/dying while backwards skating normal? I force myself to do 10-12 laps of backwards skating every time I hit the rink, hoping it will feel better eventually, but tend to feel like I absolutely need to stop after just 2 or 3 laps typically. Can look backwards both ways, do crossovers both ways going forwards, balancing on one feet both sides easy enough, few different stops, etceteras. However, skating backwards just feels awful and makes me never want to do it again, pretty much every time.
Man I miss skating, got kicked out the rink I used to go to bc my exs dad owned it
How do I practice cross pulls? I’m a little unstable in crossing
Dirty, how I get rid of the fear of going fast? 😅 Every time I'm practicing and I start getting fast, I panic 😅
Excelent. I'm envious. I've been skating on and off since the 70s but I can't skate backward. I started to learn but lost interest. More interested in speed. Now I'm too old to risk broken bones.
I need to go visit you so you can teach me 😭
Do you have to have a lot of movement or speed to practice? I’m still on transitions… ( really frustrating)
Were you born with skates on your feet 😂
Like did you learn to skate before walk?! You make it look so effortless!
At 40 I use to drive kids crazy that I could go backwards faster than they could forward in speed skate
Today I went to check an outdoor rink, but it was taken over by the pickleball people 😢
Me watching how to skate backwards… can barely go forward!!!
Oh dear im a good footer... 🧐
Pro tip, we want to see you in some colorful leggings so we can see your leg movement on a tiny phone screen!!♡
you inspired me to save up my own money and buy roller skates, they arent here yet, but thank you so much❤️
I like these lessons. She knows a lot but she talks too much. I would love to see her lessons shorter and to the point! I know this is all about making $$ with videos but I get very discouraged and want to move to another video because she takes forever to do something and to teach.
Trust me it's not about the money. Take your time and focus when listening. Our love of social media has shortened our attention span so much. I only do these videos to impart the knowledge that has been passed down to me. You can get your knowledge in bite-sized pieces but you will definitely miss a lot of the nuance.
Don’t get me wrong, your videos are very good but after watching them, I think o could have gotten the same information on a shorter version. You are forgetting that beginners want to learn as quickly as possible. Is just something that all people go through. Keep doing your videos just tone them a little and we will keep enjoying them
Oh my goodness!! Yes😂😂😂Nothing makes me feel like a teenager again than getting yelled at by the pickleballers because I'm on skates.
