Catching MASSIVE freshwater crayfish

- Some times it's about quality over quantity. These crayfish were huge, 2 of which were over the legal maximum size limit and had to be returned to the water.

Wow they’re thriving in that waterway Robbie great to see. It’s all thanks to fisheries and scientists for putting limits on them, and fishermen and women for adhering to them.
Thanks so much Kev, I agree 100%. The waterways are being managed very well at the moment.
@@robbiefishing Totally agree Robbie & Kev, how great are fisheries?? Can't believe the value we get for our licence fees. Remarkable really. Cheers PP
You forgot fisherthings! ;oP
@@Urbanfisho no, just no
@@phoneusandfroboof829 LOL! WHOOSH!
thank you. i used a little clip of you grabbing the cray to make a "that's crayzy" pun gif. great material.
Haha cool. Thanks so much mate.
Awesome Robbie. Those crays are the stuff of fantasy tales around the camp-fire.
thank you Robbie for taking your time for us we’re really appreciate you might keep it up
Its good to see you through back the big breeders, well done Robbie
Agreed, Great Job!!!

It’s good to see that there are plenty of crays in these streams
Wow, a couple monsters. She gave you a thank you wave just before submerging back into the river. Wife cringed at your joke LOL Have a great week and thanks for sharing Robbie.
Hahaha Thanks Larry. I love a decent dad joke. 🤣🤣🤣
Season's looking GOOD!
Death, Taxes and Robbie doing an impatient check
Hahahahaha
Love the banter!
Forest gump enjoyed this one because you caught a jenny! Awesome crays mate, those crap ons are a massive advantage on those banks!
Hahaha thanks mate. He loved Jenny.
Happy to see you catch something Robbie used to love going with a small bait trap to my local gully to catch freshwater shrimp however I lost it in the Queensland floods earlier this year
Hi mate that really sux. I hope that you can hey a new bait trap ASAP.
@@robbiefishing thanks man yea they're pretty cheap from kmart so I will next time I go grocery shopping
Aweome video bro.
Those Murray cray are massive..
Thanks for uploading. 8 will post this onnthe UKCA PAGE and group wall.
Hi mate thanks so much, that is super kind of you.
WOW. The first two were awesome. I bet the fisheries guys knew you & probably wanted to see the video of the monsters. Great work Robbie.
Thanks Glen, they were actually hoping that I would catch one while they were there because they wanted to get some photos of it. Haha
@@robbiefishing I have some extension poles I used to use for cleaning windows which I think would help you with lifting nets and de snagging, do you think the guys at adventure camping in Wang would take one to hold for you? I’m in Wang tomorrow so I’ll ask them if you want.
@@glenbaker4024 Thanks so much Glen, I really appreciate the offer but I think you probably should hang on to them. Only because I know how I operate and will likely revert ro using a stick, or my old ways anyway. LOL
Thanks so much for your kind offer though, I just don't want to see you waste a possession.
@@robbiefishing I’m dropping one off. They’re going to the tip otherwise so you might as well have one or two.
It won’t be today, I had an idea which I’ll add to the pole before I drop it off.
wow robbie now she is one BIG Crayfish nice one mate two monsters and one little one awesome work
Thanks Ron. I love seeing these monsters turn up in my nets, even though I know I have to put them back. They're just such awesome creatures.

Omg these are the yabbies I used to catch with my grandfather 30 years ago!! I told ya Robbie they existed! The big blue ones were my favourite!Monsters in random dams on farms in Melbourne's outskirts. Shame it's all now residential housing now days
Thanks mate. Imagine how much bigger our cities will look in another 30 years. Scary really!
@@robbiefishing I can't even picture it. 30 years ago Tarniet in Melbourne's west was open grazing and swamp land.. now.. there's a prison and a freely that sits right on top of where there used to be a a golden yabbie hole! Its all been just taken over with housing.
Pretty darn cool, thanks for sharing.
Hi Shooter, thanks for watching.
Now that was a big one. Cheers Robbie
Good one mate enjoyed that they’re cool them big Crays

Always good quality with you Robbie - well, apart from the dad jokes :-) Awesome crays mate, way too good to eat, regardless of size. Cheers PP
Thanks so much PP. Haha nothing wrong with my Dad jokes. 🤣🤣
@@robbiefishing The problem is kids just don't appreciate good humour. We're really funny. :-)
You seem to have a variety of sub species of cray fish there, and these ones look to grow very large. I see you taking the smaller ones you call Yabbies to cook up but never seen you take these bigger ones. Do they all have basically the same flavour ? In British Columbia Canada we are very limited and find them in the south of the province, but only a couple types. in the Northern part of the province where I live now, there is pretty much none. Thanks for another interesting video share
Hi Mike, thanks for tuning in. These are Murray Crayfish. They are subject to a tight bag limit of 2 and strict size limits. These are caught in winter and only have a 3 month open season.
Yabbies are much more plentiful and prefer warmer water, although I did catch a few last night.
They have no season or size limit.
Crayfish need fresh flowing water with a decent level of oxygen, whereas yabbies prefer warm, still stagnant water.
These are Murray crayfish and are the second ind largest freshwater crayfish in the world, se one only to the giant Tasmanian Crayfish.
Glad to hear you 're returning female with eggs to the river Why did you throw that big male back?
Those are bigger than most of the lobsters I've seen here in Canada. Well done.
Damn! They were huge! Nice catch 😎
Thanks mate.
Good to know you have a good source when the shtf
It’s Been awhile . Love watching your videos
Thabk you so much Noli.
Nice catch mate. Look good. Well done. 👍🍺🇦🇺❤️
Couple of nice cray there.
Thanks Andy. Such awesome crustaceans they are.
Always love your enthusiasm, keep that going it’s awesome 😎
I don’t chase crays but I love your vids on them this time of year. Yabbies on steroids 😜
Thanks for sharing
Love your work
Healthy habits
Thanks so much Moo Moo. I'm actually putting a couple of yabby nets in later in the week. I do t like my chances, but it's always fun trying.

Smoked Turkey sounds magnificent right about now. Haha Thanks so much for tuning in mate.
Sweet Video Robbie. Ive never gone Cray Fishing. Wonder if there is spots near Bendigo that you can go🤔
Those make our Louisiana crawfish look like babies.
Haha these are the 2nd largest freshwater crayfish in the world.
Nice one Mate you should take a trip up to the Lachlan for some fishing 🎣👌
Thajks mate, I would absolutely love to. I've been there once but it was a lo g time ago.
One day you should come to WA down south whilst the marron season is on. Would love to see you over here catching some or even just some yabbies

Hey Robbie! Absolutely been loving your content.
I am coming up to Wangaratta tomorrow for a day trip… hopeful to catch some Crays and whatever fish is willing to bite 😂
Would you be able to point me in the right direction of spots close to Wangaratta for cray fishing/fishing?
Cheers mate
Thanks Jimmy. Check out my video "Best fishing spots in Wangaratta" it shows all the good spots. 👍
Do you have a video like that for albury wodonga by any chance? Looking to go out with my partner but unsure where🙂
Absolute cracka mate great to see thanks for your videos
Thanks so much for watching mate.
They were a couple of nice crayfish, that female was a big bugger alright!
I wish we had Murray river crayfish closer to where I live
Robbie mate I just imagined you slipping arse up down the bank straight into the drink lol . Toot Toot 😅
Hahahaha It would have been a scary ordeal at this time of the year.
😭
That Crayfish was a dinosaur!
A crayfishsawus to be exact!
Haha
what a awsme cray mate 👍
Your catching them in winter that is impressive
Thanks mate, this species us a winter species. Yabbies are a summer species, and Murray crayfish are a winter species.
I do usually catch a few yabbies each winter too though.
It’s Cooper from the other day keep it up mate you’re doing great
Thanks so much for watching mate. My day has been OK. I hope you've had a great day too.
That first one was massive , wouldn't want to go wading in that river , could lose a toe 😆
Haha thanks Grant. My legs are about 10 feet too short to reach the bottom in this particular spot. LOL
You even.put the males back nice work legend
Thanks so much Carlos.
They're just soooo much fun to catch.
Those are HUGE! Where are you located?
Good vid.
Thanks Rob, I am in Victoria, Australia mate.
Going a bit Dr Suess with net number 2 there Robbie,,,,LOL
Haha the cray in the net strikes back. 😜
Many years ago we use to get em at Tooley buc but not any more is that the darling river your fishing
Hey mate, I am in the Ovens River here. Sadly there distribution has declined a lot which is sad.
hey Robbie what rod and reel would you recommend for a small creek fishing for trout
Hi Zac, if you check out any of my latest trout fishing videos you will find all the Information in the video description mate. 👍👍
Hey Robbie hope you’re having a good day
I love how you take your time that you could be doing other things for us
Also would you be able to do a shed tour
My God health and safety mind yourself handling them lads. Never mind loosing a finger they would take your hand off.
Haha thanks Vincent. There's so many things that could go wrong at that spot. Haha
Hey robbie, any tips on bait for crays! Spent a day running pot in the Goulburn up at echuca today with not one cray. I was using rabbits for bait
Hi Ben, rabbit is about as good as baits get mate. I have been having a lot if success with chicken carcases.
@@robbiefishing the rabbits were fresh because I shot them myself.. Maybe the Goulburn just isn't running with the crays? I did speak to others and they had no luck either
These are rare crayfish and it is well that they are protected. Very few can grow to this size and if there is an ecosystem that benefits this species I think they should all be protected and spread to more locations with similar habitats. If they begin to thrive into abundance then some can be harvested.
Hi mate, they are protected by tight bag limits and size limits, as well as a short season. I actually keep 2 for a feed in a video next week.
They are monitored closely to ensure their sustainability.
A word play dad jokes.... love it. ❤
Why was 6 afraid of 7?
Because 7 'ate' 9!
Hahahaha An old favourite that one. LOL 🤣 Why did the tomato turn red? Because it saw the salad dressing. 🤣🤣
@@robbiefishing what's got antlers and no eyes?
No idea.
What's dead and has antlers and no eyes?
Still no idea!
@@BaMenace hahahaha
Love your humour have you ever been to the Murray River I heard it’s good for cod With any of your friends can you do a video where you challenge them to see who can catch the biggest fish with some of your friends
Thanks mate. I released a video of me fishing In the Murray River only a few weeks back.
Oh I was away then I’ll go check that now
I'm just wondering how they taste..I bet they're Delicious 😋
They are delicious mate.
Hey Robbie how many crays can you take daily or for the season
Hi mate, thwre is a bag limit of two per day but they have to be the right size.
Def too cold for a dip in the river, brrr
I surprised nobody in the US didn't try to bring those big guys here. I know they'll end up being invasive, but it's odd nobody tried it.
They would be hard to get over there as they have high oxygen demands. You would need them in water with an aerator.
Damn the crayfish by me in the usa 🇺🇸 are small like crawfish
Hey Robbie what’s a good fishing spot for cod or trout or yellow belly I still haven’t caught my yellow belly yet🤨🤪
Hi mate, Lake Hume is a good spot to catch all of those species.
Thank you so much
Lovely old couple their must of moved house as some bloke was feeding them & then lifting them out of the water getting to old for those sort of pranks lol..
Hahahaha
Hey Robbie can you still catch good size cod in this weather
Hi Angelena, you can in some places but they are quite hard to catch and require an enormous amount of patience.
what is the daily limit and what is the size limits
Hi mate, we can keep 2 per day with a carapace length of between 10 and 12cm.
Most them mudbugs will be found close to cover, roots, brush.
Hey mate thanks for the great tip.
That's a lobster in America ha ha!
Haha Some people here call them lobsters too. They're actually a Murray Crayfish. If you google them you will be able to find out a lot more about them.
Got some donkeys mate great work
Thanks so much mate.
Robbie that Cray is a horse mate, she’s a ripper… and her big brother lol 😂
Thanks Wayne. I love seeing those big white claws come up in the net. Haha
These are huge crawdads ,what State are you in.?
Hi mate I am in Victoria, Australia.
Is there a river in sus that you haven’t tested
Haha yes mate, there's a lot of rivers that I have never visited.
@@robbiefishing well ya better get testing 😂
good 👍👍
I’ve not commented on my latest and greatest catch both pb’s and firsts. I’ve caught a 37 cm yellowbelly and a 32 cm silver perch both in the castleigh river central west NSW
WOW that's so awesome, well done buddy.
I target the ones with eggs. Crayfish roe is the best!!
Highly illegal to do that where I live mate.
Holy crack kittens those things are bloody monsters well done mate
Thanks mate. I love catching these things.
That’s pretty big
Where are you from? Can you eat them?
Good video! 😁
Thanks Duane. I am from Australia mate. Yes, they are VERY good eating but are subject to strict bag and size limits. Two of these were over the aximum size and 1 was under the minimum.
@@robbiefishing Ahh. They are similar to East coast US lobster.
Hello, I am a crayfish researcher who live in LA. Recently I embark on research about specific species of crayfish. I am interested in the crayfish that you captured. Is it possible to buy the species I want from you?
Hi James, unfortunately I am not allowed to sell my catch mate. It is illegal.
