Hey guys, today we will be diving into the world of DERIVATIVES!
I am Ca Nitin Guru and today I bring to you an INTRODUCTORY SESSION ON DERIVATIVES. This video is for people who want to get into trading DERIVATIVES and OPTIONS but don’t really know what they actually are!
WHAT ARE DERIVATIVES? A DERIVATIVE is a contract or a product whose value is derived from the value of some other asset known as underlying. In this video, I explain what a DERIVATIVE is with the help of real-life based and simple to understand EXAMPLES.
DERIVATIVE CONTRACTS can be based on any of the following UNDERLYINGS : GOLD, STOCKS, BONDS, PRODUCTS, CURRENCY, INTEREST RATES OR EVEN INDICES.
DERIVATIVE is something that derives its value from something else.
People think that DERIVATIVE CONTRACTS are a new concept but that is not true. In this video we discuss the HISTORY OF DERIVATIVE CONTRACTS which begin from 12th Century EUROPEAN TRADE FAIRS. We discuss in detail the HISTORY OF DERIVATIVE CONTRACTS AROUND THE WORLD.
The concept of EXCHANGE TRADE DERIVATIVES came to INDIA in JUNE, 2000. That's why you’ll notice that there is less information that is available on INDIAN DERIVATIVE CONTRACTS in INDIA. If someone understands DERIVATIVES well then there is a very HIGH EARNING POTENTIAL in it and it also provides you with many SAFEGUARDS.
WHO ARE THE MAIN PARTICIPANTS IN THE DERIVATIVES MARKET? The THREE MAIN PARTICIPANTS IN THE DERIVATIVE MARKET ARE HEDGERS, ARBITRAGEURS AND SPECULATORS.
People who want the minimum risk or a specific outcome from their DERIVATIVES are called HEDGERS. SPECULATORS are pretty similar to HEDGERS but only differ in terms of intent. SPECULATORS prebook things in terms of DERIVATIVE CONTRACTS when they have already speculated a higher profit in the future. ARBITRAGES are investors looking to earn a riskless profit. Their aim is to purchase a DERIVATIVE at a low price in one market and simultaneously sell it at a higher price in a different market!
TYPES OF DERIVATIVES: There are FOUR MAIN TYPES OF DERIVATIVES- FUTURES, OPTIONS, FORWARDS and SWAPS.
Through this video we will be discussing in-depth about the TYPES OF DERIVATIVES, BASICS OF DERIVATIVE TRADiNG, THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN DIFFERENT TYPES OF DERIVATIVES, The TERMINOLOGY INVOLVED IN DERIVATIVE CONTRACTS & DERIVATIVE TRAINING.

This is the most in-depth and simplified video I have ever seen. Everything was very well explained. The video focuses on the very foundation of derivatives. If you are already actively dealing with stocks and understand the very basics, the video clears all the doubts. The executions of the terms was very precise. I would recommend people to watch Margin Call and The Big Short movies after watching this video. These movies will help you understand the opportunities and risks involved in derivatives.
