You can definitely tell that Cliff was playing lead on this song even though he is bassist. I don't think it has been done before or since where the Bassist is the lead

Bass guitar is fairly new still. Years ago it was just a support instrument until people got better especially the few who had passion in music.
Cliff definitely set a new standard proving its not just a support instrument. There are many people who are just as good even better than Cliff. However, nobody can take his crown for style. It is 1 of a kind.
