    As someone who looked into having my Ikea rugs cleaned professionally, I can confirm that it DOES cost as much as buying a new one. I used to rent one of those power washers which is very affordable as well and I clean allllll the furniture when I have it as well. It's an annual thing, also in summer.
    Why I haven't thought of soaking the carpet in the tub is beyond me though...probably because it gets super heavy.

      @@remicloghey love! Just a quick thing I learned a few years ago: fabric softeners like Comfort (or any brand!) reduces the absorbency of fabrics including items like towels and rugs. With little ones, if they spill something the fabric won’t soak it up as well so liquid can pool underneath where you can’t see it, damaging the wood floor 😭
      Even scarier, it makes things more flammable! 😭 It’s the biggest reason kids clothes shouldn’t be washed with fabric softener - it removes the flame retardants and actually makes them more flammable. If your rugs have been washed with fabric softener they’ll smell nice but god forbid if you have a house fire, they’ll go up like a Roman candle and might prevent you getting out 😭 Tumble dryer sheets are the same. A regular wash with detergent, without any other laundry stuff, is safest 🙌🏻❤️

      Back in the days my grandmother had serious muscle of the daily chores in the house without use of electrical appliances. Washing was done in a wooden tub that you had to boil water for in big steel buckets, it had a handle on top that you moved back and forth and you pulled the clothes through a wringer. Everything was effort back in the day.

    Hi Remi! I just found your channel this morning and I’ve binged watched every short you’ve posted and now I’m part way through your long form videos. I’d like to tell you why I love your channel and what it means to me. I’m a tidy person, and I do like to keep a clean house. I’ve tried to instill that in my kids, but my 18 year old daughter has executive function delays and she struggles with mundane tasks like chores, cleaning, self care and such. Your videos are helping me to better understand what my daughter must be feeling. How overwhelmed she feels when things seem too much. Your videos are teaching me how to help her by being understanding and compassionate. I learned a long time ago my daughter is not lazy. Her struggles are real and they are hers. They are not mine to control or to judge. Thank you for bringing this to light and showing people that just because a person struggles being tidy doesn’t mean they are “lazy”. I love your videos so so much. Thank you, Remi, for all that you do. ❤

    just a suggestion as your from the uk the rug doctor for hire from most supermarkets like tesco or asda is reasonably priced and makes cleaning the rugs easier also can be done when its not sunny. its like getting a professional clean but doing it yourself

    This bought back so many childhood memories of my mum doing this in the summer with the rugs, curtains and large blankets. Washing the rug in the bath upstairs then lugging it down to hang out to dry. I've 'upgraded' now to a house with a shower (It was either a shower or a bath tub don't have the space for both) and I wish there was a cheap way to wash the rug and curtains.

    It always amazes me how much crap comes out of my rugs. Bravo for using the tub; take mine outside and do the scrub in the kiddie pool and hang on the back fence to dry. No way could I lug mine from the bathtub back outside...One of us wouldn't make it! LOL. Love your vids!

    Brilliant idea. I’ve got a shaggy type rug from ikea and it’s an absolute bitch to clean and far too expensive for a professional, so, I’m gonna take advantage of the weather and use the hose and soap and leave it out to dry. Very rewarding though, seeing all the muck come out, I love that bit! 😂 xxx

    Using too much detergent will cause your rug to get dirtier even faster too. Soap molecules attract the dust and dirt particles. 👍

  • @sapphireangel76
    @sapphireangel76 Před rokem +2

    The way you do it is good but I would recommend sticking it outside over something and using a pressure washer on low it did spray in the soap and let it drain on its own then you don't have to worry about draining it if it's outside and then use the pressure washer to scrub it the dirt out

    I did this once, but did it all outside. I draped the rug on the bushes, used environmentally safe soap, and hosed it all off with the hard spray part of the hose nozzle, then left it to dry. This way I didn't have to get my hands into it, or drag a wet rug through my home. Easy peasy!

    Thank you for being environmentally conscious and doing the work to clean your rug! So much better than that suggestion to dry clean it or worse, tossing it into the landfills. I wash most of my clothing by hand in the summer as well. I find it quite satisfying to see the dirt that comes out. Afterwards, I reuse that dirty water to flush my toilet several times. Save the planet! ❤

    Go to a self service car wash, hang it on one of the mat cleaners and spray wash it off, than take home and hang dry.
