      @Great White Evidence? It's widely accepted that proving anything is an impossibility. We can find evidence that points towards a conclusion to a theory, but scientific proof is a myth. Everything we know in our world today was once a theory or logical argument that mathematicians and the like set out to prove. The reality is, given the math, the probability that we are in a base reality (i.e. not in a simulation) is 1 in a billion. This is mathematical "evidence" that points towards the validity of the Simulation Argument to which said argument hasn't yet been logically dis-proven. It doesn't mean it's true, but it means that the likelihood that we are in a simulation is very high. You know what we also don't have your "proof" for yet? Quantum gravity, dark matter, and a whole lot more things. Do you think it's "irresponsible" for scientists to work on those "hoaxes"?

    • @NguyenNguyen-xs5fg
      @NguyenNguyen-xs5fg Před 5 lety

      @Great White it's harder to prove that we are not, because all of evidence we can find can be actually projection of the said simulation

    If this is a simulation I believe it would not be a "video game" I think maybe the simulators put in specific rules and code in the beginning of the universe and they let it run it's course. They don't make every little piece of the simulation, the science did. We did.

    • @Lightning_Lance
      @Lightning_Lance Před 4 lety

      But there are probably way more video games made than history simulations. So by the same logic as us being more likely to be in a simulation than reality, we'd be more likely to be in a video game than a universe history simulation. Besides, we don't know what the video game is about. Maybe it's like Spore. Or maybe it's something that has nothing to do with us and we're just some npcs out in the middle of nowhere space, and the main story takes place elsewhere. Or maybe the players are stars (literal ones). It doesn't have to be so simple as to just be the sims or to have the players be world leaders or something.

    Well, there is an argument against the "simulation" conjecture. It's called Occam's Razor which is an important part of science. The idea is that if you are looking for an explanation for something, you should look for the simplest one able to account for all the facts. The reason is that the more unnecessarily complex it gets, the less probable it is the actual explanation. Here's why: Sometimes laws or rules that a universe follows are actually constraints on what can happen. Put in too many (complicate it too much that way) and you can constrain your reality out of existence (your model can't explain your universe). Other times, you might make so many things possible, in trying to be able to explain everything, that the amount of significantly different universes your model allows may be so immensely huge that the probability that it actually corresponds to your universe is infinitely small. Even more, that idea is related to a part of Physics called Thermodynamics, which explains why when you mix, say, water and sugar, the dissolved sugar never, on it's own, separates from the water again to form solid sugar crystals:
    A "state" is where each molecule is, how it's oriented, and what it's doing (rotating quickly in this direction, this part vibrating slowly, going quickly towards the right...)
    When you give the water and sugar the freedom of mixing, it opens up so immensely more actually possible sugar mixed with water states than there are possible sugar separate from water states that there is simply no significant chance that by random motion and change the sugar and water will reach a "being separate" state again.
    A "too free" model of the Universe will not give you your universe, but rather one of a much larger group. The "simulation" explanation seems to me as one of the latter, because while a simulation (purportedly "our universe") has to be simpler than the actual universe in which it is made, else it would not be computable, here the "actual universe" in this scenario would be a free for all of anything.
    Furthermore, this idea shouldn't make you lose sleep because even if you were in a simulation, as long as all those to which we relate are in the same and we are all truly sentient (conscious) and mortal, our relationships are real and an abrupt end to the simulation would simply be our turn to die. Additionally, it is questionable we even need to be truly conscious, as Bhuddists see ourselves as machines made of smaller parts, and if the parts are not conscious, there is no reason to think the whole is, so we only experience the illusion of consciousness. And yet they live their lives.
    As a final measure, you might also want to apply the "proof beyond a reasonable doubt" criterion -emphasis on "reasonable"-. Now, does that simulation idea hit you as reasonable, versus our understanding of a coherent, law abiding universe?
    Which brings us back to Occam's razor.

    I often cite love or any emotion for that matter, but I like to pick to on love, because people around the world put so much onus on this word love and all its intention and meaning as it being this higher all conquering thing, well bad news its not, if this world was real, and love was real with it, then our entire collective thoughts as to what love is, would be universal, and indeed all conquering, I am willing to bet however that as there are drugs (prescribed or otherwise but mostly in this case prescribed) in existance that can kill off lust (just look at how chemical castration works) then I am willing to bet that there is a drug or combination of drugs out there than can kill off love, there are people born into this world without the ability to love, there are people in this world who are born with all the normal things in life, and who are able to love and then some accident befalls them and they are left unable to love, if you take a child and instead of expressing love to them in their growing up, but instead lock them in a room and deprive them of love, they will grow up not able to express it, and remember I am only saying that we put this big thing on what love is, and its so called ability to conquer all, but it doesnt, and people through such things in life follow a path determined by their experiences.... I was run over by a car when I was 2, suffered a number of injuries one them being massive brain trauma and yet you wouldnt know that I had to look at me today at 43years old, I am just an average person, but speak to me at length and you realise that I couldnt give a shit about love, and its not that I dont believe in it, I know love is not a real or tangable thing, like how you might know 1 + 1 = 2, and then at 4 years old I endured child abuse until the day after I turned 11 years old and was taken into care, the damage however has been done, and then 3 years or so of false promises by various women has meant that whatever might have been salvagable after being run over, or after the child abuse or after being treated like shit through various relationships with women has led me to a logical thought path of trying to figure out what love is, and I am damn sure its nothing more than a chemical inbalance within the brain (sure its one we might like the feeling of now and then) but nonetheless it seems to follow the routes that other chemical inbalances take, and as such I am sure there is a drug out there than can kill it, within even the most ardent of persons who are all for love. I say all of this because if love was a real thing, then it would persist within all of us, but it doesnt, damage the code of some program enough with a virus and you break the program, damage enough of a person and you break their code and you then break that person, its a known punishment tactic... its known because its all coded, its all logical, there's nothing hidden about it.... it does indeed therefore seem like we are part of some fucking simulation, and one im tired of.

    • @_itsJV
      @_itsJV Před 5 lety

      So, so many holes in your statement. First being that you put a definite meaning to "love" which is entirely subjective. It not being real to you doesn't mean it isn't "real". Your entire argument stands on a very particular definition to love but in reality there is none. You can ask a multitude of people what love is and what is encompassed in it and you'll get an entire spectrum of answers and experiences. Why? Because love is something we "feel" and inherently taught as well so there is no "universal" definition for it and thus it cannot be something that "conquers all". Hell that very statement can be a a hyperbole to some (maybe yourself included) but that undermines real stories of people overcoming life altering obstacle through love. It seems like your talking the movie stereotype of what love is and what it does quite literally, which begs me to question your statement as a whole if you can't differentiate a medium trying to make money off of people's pathos and what love is at it's core. That being said you also mentioned being able to feel "love" through an outside medium such as drugs but in that instance your taking love to be something closer to a mental byproduct rather than a mutual experience and condition. Finally what in the world does this have to do with living in a simulation? Love like anything else is something that can die and leave you if you're not in a good condition. The argument of love's existence should mean everything should be perfect or at least close to it is nonsensical. There's too many factors in this world that make it what it is to say something like that. That being said living in a simulation could be possibility simply due to the fact that there is no way of knowing if we were in one.

    My question is very basic and stupid
    If we r being played like a video game by someone something or whatever
    Whats the point?
    This game on earth seems to be very ugly to be played with right?
    Who wd be delighted to play our game?
    As a kid I played a video game super mario.. Mentally at that small age.. I had a little fun but if we the people having these physical bodies that go thru pain misery and all that.. Who will get pleasure or fun out of this game? Nobody is that evil
    In a video game characters have no existence of their own ..untill we connect the video game and start playing..those characters cannot laugh cry talk of their own do not fall ill or do not get cured obviously
    So ..why do we gave pain and all jf we r just being played

      There’s always a random no avatar conspiracy theorist in the comments section of these types of videos, accusing Tyson of being a “bad” scientist and thinking anyone who follows him is “dumb”
      Yet there’s no evidence supporting this.
      If you have some sources that are outside of your conspiracy theory websites I’d love to have a look.

    • @dkg3748
      @dkg3748 Před 5 lety +1

      LogRoll yes, I believe in the wild conspiracy theory that we’re not living in a computer simulation. Please direct me to some of these conspiracy websites where wild eyed crazies think we should be skeptical of claims made by pop scientists that aren’t based on anything but faulty statistics and aren’t observable or falsifiable.
