    You make some great points about the book! I really enjoyed it as well. Let me assure you that the book is well loved and read now not only in Nigeria, but also in Poland, for example, where it's just come out. Also, I just wanted to say that I actually enjoyed that we don't get too much of Vivek's perspective, cause that's what empathy is all about. We don't have to fully understand somebody else's experiences or been in their shoes to accept them for who they are. All the best! Dagmara

    Gibram kahil said it best. "children are from you but are not of you"
    Parents must understand that children have their own mind! Their own. Just because they came from you doesn't mean they will become what ever twisted version of themselves that you have always imagined.
    This book is my favorite book of 2020. I've recommended it to everyone I know. And they loved it. After reading it, I kept craving for more of Viveks POV. But I think that hunger, that hunger for more, simply says that Emezi did a phenomenal job with this book.

    Interesting. So i am the first person here who did not like the book. Yes, the narration was explosive, mind blowing even. It wasn't like anything i have ever read before, but that is just it for me. TH sexual relationship between cousins definitely disgusted me and threw me off. I thought the beginning was quite great, but the turn into their relationship pissed me off. I felt like it could have gone in another way and it would still come out great. But obviously Ms. Akwaeke does not care for societal expectations.

      I must admit the cousin part threw me off, I was so shocked by it, it added a layer to the story though. I don’t think Osita would ever be able to exist normally again though. Is that the only reason you didn’t like the book?

      Is that why you don't like the book or its the homophobia speaking right now?

    • @olatunjivictoria2922
      @olatunjivictoria2922 Před 3 měsíci

      oh definitely the homophobia speaking you sensitive child. You don't see anything wrong with cousins having a se3*x.ual relationship because it carries a g.ay theme, but if it's between opposite se3x, it's suddenly not homophobia. I am sure somewhere in your 'enlightened' heart, it's okay for adults to have se$ual relationships with kids as well. @@sundaynwa-echemmachinedu7152 . Think objectively, not everyone is out to get you.

    You did an amazing job of giving a review of this book, can we talk about the epileptic episodes that Vivek would have that dissapeared into thin air?!??!?!

      omg YES! I thought i might have missed it where they address it or something but i was so disappointed. and the way the episodes were tied into the story i thought it might have had something to do with his death

    Very interesting views on this book. The idea of parents owning their children is very interesting, I saw this and it was something that the author also spoke about in a interview about the book. It’s true though, people don’t belong to people parenthood or not. Wow you reading it just took me back, this book hit hey.
    Great review.

    it's not the conventional nigerian story. I still don't understand the cause of his fugues
