One of the most confusing subjects in the U.S. government is Social Security. It’s a maze-like institution, and it can be very difficult to navigate. For this reason, many people hire lawyers to help them navigate the system. Because lawyers and patients may have their own difficulties navigating the world of medical terminology, this is an opportunity for legal nurse consultants to get involved.
Most legal cases concern Social Supplement Income (SSI), which may apply to those not yet old enough for Social Security. Those in government are wrong who claim that huge fraud rates occur in SSI applications. Adriana de la Torre is an attorney who works in the area of Social Security claims. She cites the percentage of fraudulent claims as about 1%.
Adriana goes into a detailed description of the various stages of a claim, which anyone who has to go through the process for themselves or someone else will find helpful. She also explains that attorneys take such cases on contingency. Arrangements are made for them to be paid from back payments due.
When certain requirements are met, a non-attorney can represent clients. This is an opening for an LNC to operate independently in this system. She explains how this can be done.
This podcast is dedicated to showcasing the many opportunities for LNCs. We hope you find this one useful.
