  • Alright fellas! Today we’re looking a pair of Wolverine 1000 Mile boots (specifically the 1940 Men's Heritage Boot), one of the most popular and well respected heritage boots on the market! Like Red Wing Heritage, Wolverine 1000 Mile boots are made in the USA from high quality components and are Goodyear welted so they can be redrafted and resloled.
    My Instagram: / the.mensch
    I picked these up from Nordstrom rack for just $90 while their original retail price was $415! I even saw on reddit that they were on the Nordstrom rack website for just $55! For the price is paid, it’s hard to go wrong.
    Sizing:
    I ended up going down a full size from my Red Wing Heritage size ( I’m a 9 in RW and these are an 8) or two full sizes down from brannock sizing.
    Leather:
    These are made from C.F. Stead waxed commander leather. It’s made in England and is one of the best tanneries in the world, especially for suede. CF Stead suede is best known for their iconic role in Clark’s desert boots.
    Sole:
    The sole is made from a dressy leather with a rubber vibram heel stack. Hopefully it’s as durable as Wolverine’s reputation seems. I love the look because you can dress them up easier than say red wing heritage moc toes which have a foam sole
    Laces:
    These have leather laces which is a nice touch and feature 4 eyelets and 3 speed hooks.
    Fit:
    These fit on the long side and are relatively wide. They’re also a bit loose around the ankle. I think if you have a narrow foot and thin legs, you should abound this boot and be weary of other Wolverine 1000 mile boots.

    They are probably factory seconds which would explain a lot of the issues with QC. My 1940s don't have any of these issues but I did purchase at retail from Wolverine.

    Work boots with very refined Italian tailored suits is such a good look and appeals to the new demand for formal and function. The contrast is such a good look.

    I wonder if they are factory seconds if you got them from Nordstrom Rack

    You are not comparing apples to apples here. Factory 2nds shouldn’t be compared to anything. Their faults are normally unique to that boot. So if you are wanting a pair of quality boots with a proven history but only go for the factory 2nds then either return them or deal with it.

    Agree on all points. No right or wrong answer with a similar price point. The standard black cxl 1000 miles I have seem much lighter (or there’s just not much going on between your foot and the ground) and better for warmer weather especially the ones with leather soles. Actually make my feet cold in winter months. QC on 1000 miles tend not to be as great as red wings IMO. They’re just a very basic boot w/o a shank. I’m definitely getting them resoled with dainites and a shank when the time comes.

      Glad to hear that you validate my points! Yeah I like the way you put it- there seems to be less between my foot and the ground. I think it’s underwhelming because I’m looking for something sturdy and supportive and I just don’t get that feeling the same way I do in my red wings!

    I have a pair of these. Narrower last than the regular 1K, laces snapped right off when I tied them on the 2nd day and I had to get them stretched out to be able to wear them. But I bought them on Nordstrom Rack website for $175 and with the CF. Stead leather, I think it's a fair deal despite all the problems that I had to deal with. The more I wear and get them scuffed, the better they look and especially with dark denim, super attractive look.

      Glad to hear that despite the shortcomings, you’re still enjoying them! They were a great deal and the leather is really incredible!

    I wouldn't be able to pass up the leather at that price either. A steal despite the awkward fit IMO. Just motivated me to peruse my local Rack this weekend.

      Good to hear! do you have experience with the commander leather? And yeah I’m gonna try to go it’s 40% off at select Nordstrom racks!

      Only have the LE Clarks desert boots w/ leather from Stead tannery. Huge fan of that roughout for its durability and aesthetics. Wolverine Blvd update video on the horizon?

      @TheMensch  Před 4 lety +1

      Yeah sure! Though I haven’t had them THAT long I could def add it to the list. FYI I do like them a lot!

    Where are wolverine boots made?

  • @Tharification
    @Tharification Před 4 lety +1

    A good cobbler might be able to fix the shaft of the boots.

    • @TheMensch
      @TheMensch  Před 4 lety +1

      Really? I wonder how? Maybe they can slim it out?

    • @Tharification
      @Tharification Před 4 lety

      @@TheMensch They do it by resewing (i think thats the correct word) the shaft of the boots.

    If you buy 1000 mile boots from anywhere other than the wolverine website or an authorized dealer then you run the risk of getting factory seconds. You can’t blame wolverine for that. The retailer who sold them at full price (and yourself for not doing your homework) is to blame. I own two pair that I bought directly from wolverine... no problems. You get what you pay for... I know you all have heard that before!

    you got them for 90 bucks, bound to have some bad stitching for that price

    • @TheMensch
      @TheMensch  Před 4 lety +1

      Yeah for that price I’m definitely not upset at all - but for someone paying full retail on their site it would definitely be a bit disappointing!

    Ask them to measure the soles and compare to a boot you already have, that fit nice

    Those are absolutely hideous stitching examples. Terrible for what is supposed to be a 300 USD plus boot.

      Couldn’t agree more - but very sad to see. As a USA made product I just wish they spent the extra minute making sure they tie up the loose ends (literally) because I know they could do it
