    Ok so I was taught that you always hold a Brad/finish nailer perpendicular to the edge of the board you are nailing into, as the brads will bend left or right but not forwards or backwards. Then you don’t have to worry about blowouts. Anyone else?

    • @StonemanRocks
      @StonemanRocks Před 7 měsíci +3

      In the movies they call those “shiners”! I worked on a few movies and shiners are a no no! And youre right about holding the gun perpendicular! Same goes for staple guns and framing nailers! Sometimes though it just doesnt matter how you hold it and it goes where it wants!

    Hey, Team Stud Pack.
    I noticed in this video that Paul still doesn't have a lumber rack for his truck. I have a rack to spare. I'd be glad to bring it to you when I come to Texas in early 2024. I don't have a fixed date to make the trip, but if you want it let me know an early Spring date range that might work for you and let's see if we can connect. Glad to help with the project in any way I can help. My dad was a general contractor/ jack of all trades too and I'm really enjoying the father and sons programming. You all seem to have a great family and very supportive siblings and spouses. Great to see a hard working American family, raising kids to prosper in a modern world. Paul, my dad wouldn't have understood this CZcams channel as a vocation either. Good for you to go with your kids into the unknown and share your life and work experiences with them.

    The primed finish on your boards is a two pass, buffed gesso primer. Gesso is clay that is mixed in with the primer. It also appears the boards are made with Albasia with is a south American wood product. It is a very stringy wood product that is inexpensive but does not machine well. That's why they have to have such a thick primer coat.

    I used to use a 4' diameter disc sander at my family's factory. With a brand new disc of sandpaper, you could destroy a 2x4 in a few seconds. Those sanders are vicious, keep your fingers away and also install a guard, because if they catch your wood, it will fly up very quickly. That said, they are extraordinarily useful.

    Fantastic job on the windows and the frames! They look spectacular. The tape is a great trick to hide the edge. I'm stealing that one... The only thing I would have done different would be to add the outside of the casing during initial assembly, just to speed installation, but I get why you didn't do that for transport purposes.

    The contractor that recently installed my new windows asked me what color I intended to paint my window trim. When I told him he pulled out a woman's nail polish kit and found a color similar and that is what he used to color the edge of the glass. Didn't realize why he did that till ur video explaining ur tape method. Good tricks of the trade.

    IMO you should only use self taping screws for metal studs 18 guage and down,. 20 and 25 guage metal studs work the best with fine tread sheetrock screws. For refernce only. I have many years doing metal framing , sheetrock and finish work for commercial application. And your absolutely right that the trim head scre would of been best.

  • @StoneyMeyerhoeffer
    @StoneyMeyerhoeffer Před 7 měsíci +2

    I have had Mike Farrington's dt disc for a while now. I setup a second saw in my shop dedicated to it. My two table saws are side by side and share the same rail and fence. I cut to the left of the fence and "glue line rip" with the taper disc on the right. It works out great. I can't tell you how much it improved my panel glue up results. Final dimension on the table saw and "glue line ripping" on the taper disk are my workflow with the disc.
    I also do a lot of small parts work and have built a jig to use it to joint and thickness small parts. It's just a modified mortise and tenon jig, but it works a treat to replace my shooting board and hand plane for more than a few jobs.
