America and The Boxer are my favorite Paul Simon songs and I really love the way Sting sings America! Paul is the greatest songwriter of my generation!
It is funny-and interesting and I mean that honestly, interesting how subjective music appreciation is. "Weird" voice, I don't doubt it IS weird, to you, maybe to others. To me, nothing wrong with it, well sung in fact. But why does it strike me that way, "weird" to you? I sure don't know. I know this though for sure, I have heard what would be considered great voices singing without conviction, and so so voices singing WITH conviction. Of course, we all want both great voices and conviction. And then the subjective, I like this and you can't do anything about that, nor I about how you "hear it" John, both as it should be.
It doesn't get any better than that. Very moving.
