Star 80 is a very good but strong film..I can only watch it once every few years it's that dark..Eric Roberts did a fantastic job so do Mariel Hemmingway...

Star '80 is easily the best "high cost of fame" film of all time. Eric Roberts as Paul Snider is loathsome!

Eric Robert's Dominates Bob Fosse's Star 80,why he didn't win the Academy Award for Best Actor is highway robbery 🤔😡⁉️

Agreed. Indeed he wasn't even nominated! Some forty years later, I was last night staggered watching his superlative performance. It's insane just how good Eric Roberts was!

I have a real soft spot for Hollywood Cold War propaganda ... Red Dawn, War Games, Rocky 4, and more quiet dramatic stuff like Testament .... Fake nuclear war junk is always a good time. I miss the 80s

Isn’t there an R or unedited cut of Red Dawn? John Mullis.

@@matthewschwartz6607 I have no clue. They made it PG-13 because it was designed for young people. I don't know why they'd need to do a hard 'R' cut of it because PG-13 in the early 80s was actually pretty hardcore... At least by popular standards. I'd watch it though if it existed for sure.

@@Fiveash-Art - Thanks for the response. I remember reading that there was a longer/different version. I'll look into it. I want to see the original again, now.

I found the nuclear war movies way too depressing

@@thebrowithnoname1703 I always enjoyed them. Even as a kid I knew it was pure fantasy they were selling, but it was fun to think about nuclear war and how it would effect the world. I love fear propaganda. For me it was just as good as Nightmare on Elmstreet or Alien. As long as you know what it is, you can have a good time with it. That new A24 Civil War movie looks like a blast. It's brainwashing nonsense, but no different than any of the other Hollywood drivel being made today. Give me some unadulterated full on obvious programming. Love it. I hope it's good.

Testament is a good film - very thought provoking, and I enjoyed it. But, if you REALLY want depressing, you should watch Threads. British film that cuts no punches. It is VERY depressing and without ANY hope whatsoever. Threads is very much worth watching, but beware - there is no happy ending. There is still some hope in Testament.
The Day After is a piece of consummate crap that NO ONE should watch - especially in comparison to Threads and Testament.

I strongly agree about Threads which absolutely wipes the floor with Day After.
