    Wow! Great video. I can't wait to hike this trail. That view from the shelter is amazing ❤

    Looks like you all are happy to be back out in the elements. That trail doesn’t seem to get a lot of traffic with all that tick grass not trampled down. The silver lining is that you both get a more intimate outdoor experience with your surroundings because there are less people around.👍🏻

    Great first day, even if a lot of it walking through the carwash and looking for blazes. Hope you both checked for ticks. Heard someone call a similar area " tick city". The forest was absolutely beautiful, even when foggy. Kelly and Retriever, take care. Stay safe. See you tomorrow.

    Yea, great to see you again Spotter. Sorry the beginning of the trail was so wet and ungroomed. Heard Rattlers are around in northern WV. Love your videos. See you tomorrow.

    Spotter !!!! Back where you belong , with the Newts, Snakes, Birds, and that handsome guy that is always following you. I didn't enjoy the trail as much as previous hikes, because there was no trail ! I was worried for you on what you could step on or would attach to you. But that view, near the house, was gorgeous!! Weather appeared to be uncomfortable. The tower view is truly breathtaking ! And, with lovely birds songs too. You are so lucky to have hiked there. Hope to see both your smiling faces soon! 🌄

    Just had a chance to start watching this hike! Gorgeous at 11:06 am!! I would be freaking about the ticks AND poison oak you can't see. No. Way. I adore the AT but so far with this one is a hard NO (for me due to no maintenance).

    Corn on the cob, someone has a deer stand near by. Racoons, bears, and fox will haul off corn from the initial stand. Interesting trail/bushwhack. Great camping spot though. I hope the rest of the trail is good.

    Oh my gosh! I'm so excited! ... I don't know how I'll get through this without my emojis, but I'll make the best of it (insert big emoji grin here). ... Ugh, it's as humid there as it is here. Ick. ... You both look great though! ... It looks and sounds very beautiful. Rough that there's no trail, if for no other reason, it's hard to not step on any little creatures. .. OH! I forgot ticks. ... West Virginia is such a beautiful state. Even just driving through. .. I remember Angel's Rest from your AT adventure. ... I see a little trail now (the tire tracks). It's all so beautiful. ... OH!!! Your first newt. I know how much you love that (smiley heart here). ... Big hearts and hugs for Atlas. This is so awesome that you're doing this in honor of him. ... I hope you make a photo montage at the end of this adventure. The snake in the leaves will be a great 'still'. ... You and I see the same thing in these trees that look like things. I paused and you haven't even said it yet, but that's a dragon. ... Oh, well, it was a dragon (big grin emoji). ... And the beautiful red wild flower. That would be a good "still" too. ... Ooh! More flowers...they're so pretty. I'm glad you stop to take video/photos like that. They're only alive for a short time and the photos preserve that they were here and how beautiful they were. ... The huge ferns and no trail look prehistoric....oh cr*p!!! Sorry you're already getting ticks. ... Ok, wait a sec. That second corn on the cob looks like it has some kind of Blair Witch Project thing going on with that stuff tied around it. (insert scary face here - even though BWP wasn't scary). ... Ooh, how pretty with the low clouds. ... "Blinded by the light" - and bugs. ... What a neat old cabin thingy. ... Oh! And the first deer. She's pretty. ... Up and over. Heh heh. ... Oh no! Was that just a turtle shell? (concerned face). ... Oh how cool! (the observatory). ... And WOW! Beautiful, beautiful views! ... Very interesting about the owl statue and the reason for it. I wonder if it works. I know scarecrows don't actually scare real crows (they don't fall for it). ... I love how there have been birds singing the entire day - and just as I wrote that now you have the little bird on camera singing. ... That is such an incredibly awesome place to stay! ... Thumbs up Retriever for snoring and getting the place to yourselves. (big smile). ... This is so fun! Hope you had a great night there and I look forward to your next day. I might fall behind a day or two here and there, but I'm so happy to be back on your adventures with you. (tons of emojis here).

      @@UnboundCrow I've seen them before with just one shell "square" whited out like that, but never that much of the shell. Poor thing. ... Now I'm off to watch Day 2. (smiley face)

    The ALT in section one runs by lots of private land.

  • @TheJhtlag
    @TheJhtlag Před 3 měsíci

    You'll notice the terrain changes looking east with lots of long ridge lines - including Peters Mountain and looking west with a few smaller ridges but otherwise just sort of lower bumpier stuff. There's a pretty good fault line on the west side which delineates different regions, technically the west side aren't really mountains anymore. I don't know if the sign at 15:50 is birder humor, but yeah, the US military likes to come out here and play. A little earlier in the year a woman chained herself to the oil pipeline drilling equipment a few miles south of where you started - yeah, guess that wasn't there when you hiked the AT? - delayed work for a day, they brought in a large contingent of Federal LEs back in January ... just in case.
