Difficult and complex stories make for the most compelling art. There is no moral defence for the people who assassinated Lincoln, far less the ideals that motivated them, however, everyone, no matter who or what they represent or provide cover for, is entitled to a fair and impartial trial.

It actually is, too! Not like Gangs of New York, or something like the North and South miniseries. For once, it can be said that the outfits in this film actually look like the pictures from the time. The only other real film to get that right was Lincoln, and they felt slightly off (still very accurate!)
