Knife sharpening is an art, it’s beautiful. Definitely an underrated art in the world.
Most definitely, I’m so awful at it it has put a haunt on me buying knives til I can figure out how to sharpen the six I bought this year already 😪🤧
@@Errcyco keep at it man. I bought a pocket sharpener from work sharp. Watched Jerads videos. Started with my cheapest knife to learn on and moved up. It’s not that bad just keep trying.
@@Errcyco yeah, what he said ☝️, it's a skill that can only be honed (pun unintentional lol) with hours of practice. Sharpening by hand without a guided system is how I do it because I have been sharpening for years and honestly, I look for excuses to sharpen most days, it's very therapeutic to me and a nice stress reliever/engaging activity if you like that sort of thing. Keep at it and you will be a master in no time.
This may be the best review/instructional video for a knife sharpening system I've ever seen in this platform. If all your videos are this good I don't know how you don't have millions of subscribers! Everything was explained well and I enjoyed your sharpening tips greatly.
I agree!
Excellent tutorials...
@@davestellingya’ll haven’t watched many tutorials.
Purchased this system about 6 months ago. Takes about 20 minutes for a full re-profiling. Rock solid, super easy and keeps a near perfect angle every time. Once a nice edge is on, it only needs touched up every couple of weeks with a strop loaded with .5 micron gunny juice. 💥
@Kasey Carter- do you have any issues clamping up full flat ground knives with the clamps provided?
@@andrewjewell8209 Yes, somewhat. Example: Spyderco is a regular fixture in my pocket. I’ve found that if I only use one clamp (removing the other) and stay tight to the scales, it works fine with the appropriate speed and pressure. Even in that scenario, this has been the best system by far for myself in creating and maintaining a consistent angle and polished edge.
@@kaseycarter230 thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. The majority of my better knives are spider co with a full flat so that’s why I was curious. I know tsprof makes a special clamp for a full flat grind but I can’t seem to find them for sale.
Pro tip. Before mounting the first stone and setting the angle, set the height of the stone height adjuster using the first stone.
Great Review... I'v been sharpening for years. Free hand, Belt grinder, KME etc.
The TSPROF is my favorite. I use the Blitz 360 for pocket knives and the K03 for larger knives.
The Kadet is a great middle of the road sharpener. The Blitz is sized right for smaller blades.
If you are only doing pocket knives go with the Blitz.
If you need to take care of kitchen knives the Kadet is a great choice.
Clamp systems produce a better result for most folks than any other method.
I purchased the same sharpener from gritomatic in a black kit. It come with upgraded stone holder to hold both the dovetail style stones and on the opposite side it has a larger space to hold the Venev dual sided style stones. I cannot say how well the basic version that you have works, because I dont have one. It may very well be plenty sufficient for holding different stones. But the upgraded version does a really good job holding the Venev stones and can be purchased separately. It is worth buying for sure. Thank you for the video and for all of your valuable time and information that you share with all of us in the knife community. Have a great weekend
I wasn't aware that the TSPROF Kadet had an upgraded model.
Interesting; I think I might order one, thanks...
Great explanation and demonstration of a very cool sharpening system along with showing an actual sharpening vid. These systems aren't cheap but the quality looks extremely good. The recommendation of which stones to buy for it is also very helpful to those getting into sharpening as well. Thanks for the great vid Jerad and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable
I like how smooth sounding and feeling the steel becomes after the first stone does most of the work 👍👍
The Kadet pro is the newest version it has an precision adjustment knob to set your angles it works awesome , I have 4 sets of clamps , 2 sets of dual clamps 1 regular(like in this vid) and 1 filet clamps (for very thin and low profile knives ) it keeps the stones from hitting the clamp, The dual clamps are better for larger knives like kitchen knives , fixed blades and large folders
Then they have single clamps I recommend for pocket knives smaller blades up to 3.5 inches ,basically (KME) style clamp and they hold rock solid , With this set you can sharpen a large Kitchen knife all the way down to a small knife like what’s in Swiss Army knives
I just got mine a few days ago. I already have 12 working hours on it. This sharpener is a dream to use. I highly recommend it. You are right though, Veneve stones are the way to go. The TSPROF plates will do a very good job also but they do wear out quite fast.
When you say quite fast, approximately how many blades are we talking before they are spent?
@@promaterial i would say after around 6 blade you could feel a difference in texture. I have used them on M390, S45, S45, S30, Nitro-V, 154CM and some softer steels. By now i have used the system more. I could really tell the middle area of the plate has less bite than the end.
This looks high tech cool. I have purchased so many sharpening gadgets… but, thanks to your instruction, I take great satisfaction in producing equal results without the set-up time on Dia-sharp stones, hand sharpening. Again this looks like a precision tool but so am I…
In my opinion the L adaptors are the best accessory I have for my Kadet, I think they work better than the single clamp and work with longer blades as well. Nice video thanks.
I have the TSPROF Pro. I would call it Lamborghini of manual sharpening. I also use digital angle finder.
Yeah, I'm pretty much sold on the Kadet Pro model, too...
I've finally pulled the trigger and ordered Kadet Nero, should arrive next week! I'm sick of these dull kitchen knifes cutting nothing well...
@@davestelling I actually cancelled it and ordered the Kadet Pro and it came within a few days from another shop. I've been enjoying and using it for quite some while now. All my knives are very sharp! Just need to score some Venev diamond stones though because the standard ones the set comes with are fine, but the finish they leave could be better though. But right now they're hard to come by because of certain circumstances in the world... :(
Do you prefer the TSPROF Kadet or the TSPROF Blitz?
Just bought a TSPROF Kadet Nero. Can't wait
Afternoon...
You've given us some good recommendations for the alternative stones from Veneve & Gritomatic.
I'm just now getting started w/ the Master Kit from TSPROF.
Appreciate these tutorials, very helpful - thanks...
Awesome thank you for watching, I have another one coming soon on the Pro version
Just got a Kadet last week with that summer sale, $318 with the full set of diamond stones included.
Overall, I'm very pleased. It's not perfect but compared to everything else on the market, it's a good value.
2 knives done, 50+ to go
Does TSPROF have "Sales" often? I'm thinking strongly of ordering the Kadet Pro. Any type of sale would be nice, considering such a big investment...
@@davestelling they just had a good labor day sale. It's only 5% off kits now. If you don't mind waiting it might be worth signing up for emails
The newest version of the Kadet has a rack and pinion angle adjustment. Have had my eye on Kadet for awhile
Yeah , I’m I have the Kadet Pro , It blows away this old version Jerad is using I’m very surprised he didn’t get the pro, He also put the docking holder on the wrong spot 😂
Yeah its great for those buying new. I like where he mounted it lol.
For $318 shipped with 5 diamond stones on sale, the standard Kadet seems the best value in the entire line.
The pro was $100 more. At that point, it's close to K3 money.
Not saying I didn't want it.... I just couldn't justify another $100 for a really cool knob.
@@Jeremy_810 The K3 pro is to big for what I need unless you need to do swords😂 , The Kadet is a great sharpener but the way to adjust the angle is the biggest complaint with users, So the Kadet pro came out with the knob it is much easier and effortless to find existing angles you can make very fine micro adjustments it’s worth every penny if you ask me and a pleasure use , but to each his own , that’s why they make all systems that people can afford so there’s options
@@Antimatter. I can definitely see down the road wishing I had splurged on the micro adjustment. Currently, my biggest problem with the system is the 2 piece rod coming apart in use. That tiny little screw holding the 2 together needs a recess in the rod to hold on to. I haven't reached for the pliers yet but probably will before long.
Wow, great information. You explained it well. Gonna get one these sharpeners for Christmas. Thanks for your video.
Ordered the worksharp field sharpener yesterday but I'm a complete beginner, never sharpened a knife before so .....wish me luck.
And how is your sharpening journey so far.
Got one and am getting the best edges of any clamped system. Holds blades very solidly which makes a huge difference over lesser systems. 👍🗡️👊
And if you can’t afford this the Ruixin pro 008 has worked good for me but this is what I desire to have if $ wasn’t a thing . This would look awesome on its own shelf with a few special knives.
the ruixin looks great for kitchen knives
Great educational video and what looks like a great sharpening system. It's way above my budget though. :(
I've actually been thinking of buying one of these. I have a KME system, but it's old and getting kinda beat up. I also like the fact it uses 6" stones compared to the 4" stones on the kme. The only thing holding me back is the price, plus te fact that then I'd want to get a set of Venev stones for it as wel, so I'm looking at a big price tag.
I'm about to sell a set of single sided Venev Orion stones for the old price I got them at before Gritomatic increased them by 50%. LMK.
@@EdgeStoneKnives Are they 6" stones?
@@EdgeStoneKnives I'm the same name on IG..hit me up if you're also on IG. I'm interested
Been thinking the same thing Timbo me and my kme have been thru it but I think it's time to kick her to the curb for the tsprof
Having had the kme system, this is well worth the investment. It is significantly better in every facet. Keep in mind if you are already heavily invested in kme stones, they also work very well with this system....especially if you have the beast 50 grit diamond plate to make short work of any reprofile jobs.
I have had good success even using wider stones in both 4" and 6" formats.
The versatility of this system blows the kme out of the water. You won't look back, that I can promise you.
Excellent tutorial. I always enjoy these and very fun to see you do it with a different system 👊
Only complaint is that they -tsprof- should provide extra key screws for both sizes of pieces requiring lock screws. Some of mine were loose in the styrofoam.
Good review and sales pitch.
This thing is cool but I’m already too accustomed to my work sharp and in a little deep in attachments that give it a lot of versatility. Old habits die hard and I don’t think I could give up the ability to quickly pull the clamp out of the system without removing the knife so that you can check specific portions of the edge in more detail thruout the process. When trying to for example straighten a messed up wavy edge it helps a lot.
This is definitely my “grail” sharpening system, the PRO one.
Great information. Thanks. I was wondering about the strop. TSPROF sells one, but it's sold out. They are probably available from other sources.
Really informative & well presented.
How do you feel about the Kadet vs the Blitz?
I would be interested to know this as well!!
Holy shit 800 bucks !!!
And made in Russia. 👎
very nice informative info. what was the first stone you started the sharpening process ?
If you had a choice would you go for the Kadet or the TSPROF K03 Hunter TS-K321010H ?
Damn that’s bad ass bro! Just looking at it you tell that’s top level. Just look at it! Lol I know you did cause you put it together. If I go to a system style it will be them less you find something better. Hard pressed to do I’m sure. Thanks Jerad!
does anyone know the difference between the Kadet pro and the Blitz pro???
Thank you. Very informative.
Do the blade clamps fit just one way on the base? If you can flip them over the screws can be replaced with thumb screws from the hardware store. No more needing a tool and you will not have the chance of bending the clamps.
Black permanent marker on the edge will help you see the progress better.
Your best and most detailed sharpening video yet. I’m interested in signing up for the gang bang members only and the sharpening classes. How/where do I sign up?
Is there a difference between the Kadet and the Kadet Nero besides the obvious that the Nero is black ?
I'd like to know that as well
The only difference in the sharpeners themselves is the black anodized finish on the Nero version. But there are different kits available at Gritomatic that also comes with upgraded stone holder along with the Nero version.
This System together with a basswood strop and stroppy stuff 4 micron Emulsion would probablie make a wonderful edge
I’m very new to knife sharpening (just my own knives), and I know you put out a lot of videos on sharpening. I’ve watched a number of them, but I’m curious about something after watching this one. As a freehand sharpener, do you still recommend this over any of the other guided systems? I’ve heard good things about KME and the Worksharp, but this does seem to be better quality overall. I unfortunately don’t have the free time to get into hand sharpening, but would this be a good “one and done” system for someone to get consistent results? Your hand sharpening skills blow me away btw. Thanks for all of the fantastic content you and your wife share with the community.
Thanks for the videos
Thanks. I learn a lot from your videos. Appreciate it. Stop waving your hands all over the place when you are showing the stones lol.
Seems like a way better version of the work sharp. I might upgrade to this in the future.
Was tempted by this system, but I’m just a guy who likes knives, can’t try them all
Looks like it makes it much easier and faster
Hey Neeves, if you got the time I have a question for you. Choice between having the model in this video or the Blitz in your NASA quality sharpening video, which would you rather have if you could only have one?
Great instructional video, thanks for this! I'm finally at a point where I desperately need to upgrade my sharpening equipment. I've been using the Spyderco Sharpmaker for decades, it works well for what it is and it's very portable but it's time to improve my results. I was seriously debating the TSProf vs a Wicked Edge but if the TSProf is expensive, the WE is ridiculous! I think you've sold me on the TSProf. Are there rod extensions available for larger knives or are they needed? I've got a 9.5" Swamp Rat BattleRat in 52100 that needs reprofiling from the asinine asymmetrical edge it came with.
Fairly new to the sharpening world. I've been watching tons of videos and doing research on sharpening systems (Ken Onion Work Sharp, traditional stones, etc.) My primary use would be sharpening pocket knives and fixed blade/camping knives. I have a Spyderco tri-angle sharpener, but I'm ready for an upgrade. What would you recommend?
Your comment mirrors basically what I am going through as well. About 5 folding knives and 3 camping knives.
I would recommend the Lansky sharpening system
@@jaydenjohnson5207 Thanks. That's another I've been looking at. I do love the instruction on this channel, so I figure whatever I end up with, I'll have some good instruction from Jared.
Any options on this vs a water cooled stone like a Tormek? I can get one from Jet for about the same price as this Kadet. My biggest concern is the natural hollow grind it produces and I'm not sure it will keep angle at the curve.
I want to sharpen knives, chisels, and hand planes.
Just a heads up. The TSProf diamond stone set does not last long. But work while they’re still not worn down.
i have the blitz 360 and its amazing! i too tape my clamps instead of the knife itself but i just use masking tape. i need to step my tape game up 🙂 also i just use kme diamond stones on mine
In two years of using my Blitz I've never had it mar the finish on any of my blades.
The angle setting seems pretty awkward with this machine. I have a Hapstone with a micro-adjuster which makes it much easier to set a very precise angle. Also, Hapstone is made in Ukraine while TS Prof is made in Russia.
That’s the old version he has, the new Kadet Pro has an adjustment knob to get your angles it’s night and day better
Hi Jared, I bought the K03 and am very impressed with it. I would say it is definitely a step up the the kadet pro. Do you use a digital angle cube to find your angles or do you just use the indicator on the TSPROF ?
Both, I use a digital if I want an exact number, in many cases I just set it at an angle that I know is about where I want it
Nice... wish it wasn't so expensive but i guess you get what you pay for. Does it have any kind of table clamp?
Do you have any tips for sharpening a recurve and not flattening it out?
Narrow, 1/2" stones for starters.
Gritomatic has some good ones...
How are the more affordable brands like Lanskys? I've used the Scotts, which I don't think are even as good as the Lansky, and it was workable. Keep in mind that the biggest/hardest blade I used on on was a 3¾" M390 blade on an M4 Lionsteel. The blade I'm going to be reprofiling the edge on is only 2.9", but it's CMP M4 tool steel, which I'm told is like trying to sharpen granite.
The Scotts was okay for a few things, I normally free hand but when I'm changing the bevel I want to make sure the geometry is as close to perfect as possible.
I know the M4 is going to be a nightmare, but I really don't have $120+(let alone $400+) to spend on a sharpener at this time, like to be below $80 if possible.
Thoughts?
I'm even willing to pay someone else to sharpen the M4. Normally paying someone else would be blasphemous, but the fact that this one is so difficult, and the fact that it probably won't need to be fully sharpened again for a number of years, and by then I'll be able to handle it myself.
Dude I own the pro. I love it.
For the price of one of these this thing should sharpen the knife on its own. I don't care how sharp it gets. $700 is a lot of money when you can learn how to sharpen a knife
Thanks for another great video, amazing detail! Quick question, is the Atoma 140 significantly faster/coarser than the Venev 80?
Yes it is much coarser, after it breaks in its still a bit coarser
@@NeevesKnives I am thinking of starting a side hustle of sharpening knives. What would be your preferred starting set up. I know you linked everything in the description. Would you get all of it or just certain things?
Neve I just purchased my kadet pro! So hyped, I’m looking at the dual sided Venev diamond set, they have the alpha and the beta , one is 80/1200 grit and one 100/1500 grit. Which do recommend? Thank you!
Hey how are you liking the cadet pro? Do you have any issues with clamping up knives with a full flat grind with the clamps provided.
Have you tried k03? Im torn between that and the Kadet. I reached out to them hoping to possibly get a discount because if I make the switch it will benefit them as well but they never responded. Probably going to just suck it up and buy one but then id have to restart my blade show savings so idk 🤷🏻♂️
My problem with these is how do you find what angle you have the system set to.. an angle finder?
Does the TSprof sharpening kit ship from Russia or from a warehouse in the USA ?
It was left under a comment
I understand that you switch from the first stone to the second stone once you have the complete scratch pattern and a burr. But when do you switch from the second (or following) stones onwards?
Once you have removed the previous scratch pattern and replaced it with the new one, while also getting a burr from heel to tip
How do you keep bevel thickness uniform with a fixed angle system? Most of my knives have a thicker bevel towards the tip
Watch Gunny Talk videos (Scott Gunn). He talks about this. Basically, you want to clamp the knife parallel to an imaginary line from the pivot of the knife to the tip of the knife, which means you end up clamping pretty straight across the spine. Use the Sharpie and adjust accordingly. If you clamp parallel to the imaginary line from heel to tip, you will end up with a consistent angle but your bevel with widen toward the tip because the steel is thicker there. A lot depends on blade shape, but this is a good general rule.
Seriously considering getting this. Currently have a KME. Can this use KME stones?
Yes, you just have to adjust the stone holder for 4" stones, but the 6" stones are much better
@@NeevesKnives that settles it. I'm getting the TSProf blitz complete. 420 bucks plus a 10% discount is the shit. What's your discount code bro? Whitemountainknives

Same, here.
Going for the Kadet Pro - a "Sale" of some sort right now would be nice, hu?
are rounded stones available for a kukri, for example?
Can the Clambs take a 6mm thick blade? I had problems with Worksharp with my thicker blades...
Venev has even better single sided 6" stones with the dovetail ends that lock into the stone holder better. "Orion"
Yeah I know I don't have any of those ones atm, atleast I dont think I do, I did link a bunch of different kinds in the description
New to sharpening. How do you determine proper angle?
Which TSPROF sharpener would you recommend for kitchen knives?
This one or the Kadet Pro which is even better
@@NeevesKnives do you have an opinion on the TSPROF Blitz?
@@iLikeCrabrangoons I HAVE A VIDEO ON IT, ITS A GREAT SYSTEM FOR SURE. THE KADET WORKS BETTER FOR LARGER BLADES BUT THE BLITZ 360 IS STILL GREAT
How do you know how far in or out of the clamps the blade needs to be? Just til the angles lineup? I’d probably find a way to ruin that.
Usually you have to have a digital angle cube to find the correct bevel angle. Zero on the base or blade and then angle of the rod.
What thickness of blade will this hold?
this is a nice build quality, but not for the price. id rather have a couple good stones and strops, and the ken onion blade grinder attached for heavy removal and quick sharpenings.
if it were more affordable this would be the one though.
Lol. I was just watching TSProf videos to decide If I'm getting the Blitz Pro The Kadet /Kadet pro/Kadet Nero or the big K03. I have kinda landed on the Kadet Nero/Pro. Since most of the knifes I sharpen is pocket knives some fixed blades. But I'm hoping it can sharpen a 9" blade since I also got a lot of Scandinavian Leuku's.
I think I will be fine with the Kadet but I will be limited to 150mm long stones whereas with K03 you can use up to 200mm long stones. But that system is also much larger which isn't ideal for me living in an apartment.
@@Cid_1 I've done 8" knives on my blitz, I would think 9" on the kadet would be no problem. For my filet knives I just have to use very light pressure and I use my finger to support the tip of the blade and prevent blunting it.
How does the Hapstone R2 compare to the Kadet please?
Will the Kadet work for large chef knives?
Get the kadet pro, and yes it does and you can get other clamping attachments
Do you prefer this over hand sharpening?
Freehand will always be my number 1 but not everyone has the patience or devotion to get skilled and perfect freehand, a system like this allows you to get the most consistent professional edges, but you do have to have an understanding of Sharpening to get the most out of it
I am relearning the dozens of things I thought were the only way. The strop compounds, what do I need for polishing?
i believe i explained that at the end or towards the end, but go into the description i have gunny juice linked. get the 9, 6, 3, 1 if your wanting to strop to a polish. you could use a stone to get to a polish then just strop with 1 mic or .25 but stropping to polish will require multiple strops and compound
@@NeevesKnives thanks, you did say that, i just didn't know what the 9, 6, 3, 1 meant. Thanks again. But, that's all i didnt understand. yes but i would say you could also go with the tsprof blitz 360 which is linked in the description if you click tsprof amzn make sure its the 360, with this devise you would want to get the other clamps
@@NeevesKnives so the 360 is better than the kadet for my needs. I do also have 4 or 5 spydercos which get used a lot more but I have something like 28 ultratechs utx85 and utx70

Using the stone to set that gap makes absolutely no sense to me. You set the angle and then AFTER that you change it when creating the gap. Why?
Sharpening question, Jared:
I have the Kadet. I bought double sided Venev 1x6 stones: 100/240, 400/800, and 1200/1500.
I also got a separate Venev 80 grit for serious reprofiling.
For stropping, I got some basswood cut to 1x6 with 1 & 0.5 micron gunny juice.
My question is: if I’m finishing up a stone progression on 1500, is that a fine enough grit that I can I go right to the 1 & 0.5 micron strops for a nice highly polished finish, or should I get a coarser grit gunny juice to use before the 1 micron? Let’s say 3 or 6 micron?
Any feedback is appreciated!
Your 1 micron and . 5 is fine a .25 would be the only one I’d recommend after. Because a venev 1200 is 3/2 micron so you want a micron rating lower than that which would be the ones you have

@@NeevesKnives Yeah, that's a little bit more in my budget. I bought a ruxin pro and threw it in the trash after a week. Time to upgrade. Thanks Jerad
how would the thicker stones attach to the stone holder?
With spring tension it just holds it, having a plated stone with grooves is better but will work Regardless, also they do have parts for the stone holder so you can hold both kinds of stones
@@NeevesKnives thanks bro, just ordered this setup 🙌🏼

Can I have have it
So portable
Funky that you have to angle cube both holder arm from base and stone mounted on guide. Zero holder and read angle on stone. Micro adjustable screw at top or use as depth compensator. I find it works better to use same size stones and have that brass piece with hole be movable to adjust angle.. Mine sucked eggs out of box as the main shaft on stand was so tight to move and adjust arms. Had to sand the corners.
Filet clamps and solo clamp so friggin expensive but you can belt sand the ones they give really thin like the filet clamps.
Venev stones are the bomb if you can afford it. Their duamond coated shit stones good to 62 hrc.
Handle knob will fall off eventually .
Note to users curved blades set it so its not 90 degrees to base arm make it so handle side and point are equal distanced often I find using 1 side with 2 clamps.
Their angle cube sux nads...gritomatic. spend a few bucks more and get one that adjusts instantly.
Other than those points its a great unit and packs away in a draw easily.
Cheers
Buying anything Russian right now helps the Russian economy , so (sadly) it is a moral choice to purchase .
Lol you think Ukraine is innocent.....Putin is doing the world a favor by blowing up the fauci bio labs who made cv19.
I'm no fan of Russia but Ukraine sux ass. Don't believe the news that footage is mostly staged.
Lastly I'm sure the folks at tsprof had a lot to do with planning the war and are part of the inner circle of war council.
Seperate the government from the people.
$1000 CAD…
Jealous!!!
☝️😎👍
Just use your phone for angle measurments, you have it anyway
