    Yes I first found Angeles city in 1983 and what a place it was, its changed so so much over the years but fond memories abound. One of the great ones was sitting in a bar along perimeter road and watching those magnificent jets taking off at night, absolutely amazing with the flames pouring out of the engine(s) . Back then Angeles City had the nickname “. the dust bowl “ as a lot of the roads were dust in the dry and muddy in the wet season.

    What a fantastic collection of photo's to evoke fond memories. I didn't visit AC until an American in Pattaya spoke of it and advised me to go immediately, as I only had 10 days left of a 3 month holiday. This was May '09 and I've enjoyed 4 subsequent visits. The bar/restaurant at 6:42 used to serve the best food in AC particularly breakfast, which was to die for. I was devastated when I returned after a 4 year absence to find it raised to the ground. The bar at 8:02 is I think the bar about 200+ yards before you get to Walking Street and not the one of the same name opposite The Wild Orchid Resort, which I think is now closed anyway. Besides The Wild Orchid my go-to hotel is The Pacific Breeze. I used to prefer the original Central Park Inn to its far more costly replacement.

The first bar I went to after being in country for a few days was the Gold Coast @5:04, 5:29. My favorite bars were the Zoo 7:16 and Murphies. 6:05. Murphies use to roll the dice for happy hour prices. If you rolled box cars, beer and rum/cokes cost $1:20. Snake eyes 20 cents. The crowd would get pissed if someone rolled box cars!

I always wondered how long after the volcano did those bars get back into business or did most of them close down and over the years others have open and the Koreans moved in. I remember there were lots of Aussie around the area in the late 70s so I guess they invested in some of the bars. During the nam years guys didn't care what the place looked like as you can see from all the pictures just as long as the beer was cold the girls were cute and a jukebox with some good tunes...heck I went to the record store and bought 45s for the jukebox of my favorite place good times.....cheers :)

    You older viewers that spent time in Angeles City May remember The Pink Elephant. I was stationed at CLARK in 1966 and 1967. I fell deeply in love with the cashier there. She was 16 and I was 18. We. Both went our separate ways, and I would think she is probably in the U.S. somewhere, married to an an ex GI. Lily Ariola forever lost.

    This is amazing! Stationed at Clark from 87-89. Got picked up by some very hospitable SP's staggering out of the Brass Knob after curfew. Someone please tell me, did Murpheys have that Great Wall art inside the bar of the different Metal albums? Great pics!

      @brucefairweather9059 Před 6 lety +1

      yes, very well, Mick O'Brian was his name, an Aussie, he was there from the late 70's to the mid 90's, passed away some years back, he was at Moon's when Bluey Richardson (The Rat) owned it, Bluey passed on a few years ago also, was my favorite drinking spot in the 80's, Last time i seen Mick was when he was looking after Maverick City about 1996.

    • @mikem2491
      @mikem2491 Před 6 lety +1

      I was in the area from 1987-1990. I remember Mick being outraged that the airlines were no longer serving alcohol on sidney to Manila flights when the oil field workers were heading to Manila. And I thought, can't believe they did in the first place. Had such a blast with the Aussies. Good dudes

      @brucefairweather9059 Před 6 lety +1

      Yes, i was there in 1987, March 7th, it was a Saturday, got married on the Base, Judge Lansing officiated, married a girl from the Eagles Nest Hotel, just around the corner from Randy Rams and the Third Eye Disco, the hotel was owned by Mike Mulholland and his filipina wife Angie, they also owned the Rhum Runner Bar on perimeter road not far from Moon Doggies, Mick was ex Aust Army, Vietnam, Borneo and Malaya i think, no wonder he had a few issues, but i liked him, most people did.

    A/C isnt the same anymore, i go back to the early 90`s, thats when the bars in Ermita were closed down, many working girls headed north to A/C, i guess it was ok until about 2010-ish, I walked into bar in A/C a few years ago, and asked how much the bar fine was, the mamasan told me ; ' no bar fine ,sir', next evening i walked into a different bar asked the same question, the answer was 2800 pesos, the bars are on and off as the local cops order......social websites are ok to get laid nowadays
