Damn. Why would they only release the Laker colorway for just "Friends & Family?" Very disrespectful for us OGs who've been waiting for YEARS for them to retro again. Smh.

@hopeart91 Yeah, I was lucky enough to catch a pair of the "Bird" pair when they released a couple of weeks ago, hoping the "Magic" pair would follow soon after. Converse really dropped the ball on this one!
There is an article on Complex about it. Some bullshit reason, I stopped reading in the middle. Converse is just a stupid brand these days that doesn’t know how to make money from the ongoing 80s/90s retro basketball shoes hype even if they made some of the most iconic silhouettes back then.
Mad disrespectful! In fact, Converse is dead to me until I can get my hands on one or two pairs of the Magic colorway.

I remember pops getting a pair of these for Christmas when I was a kid in the 80’s. He doesn’t know it but he’ll be getting another this year!
My mom drove me all over town trying to find Magic’s version. The last store we checked had my size and I was living the freaking dream!! Nostalgia is awesome!
The fact that they’re not releasing the Magic colorway is absolutely baffling to me. They were the first shoe I was obsessed with getting when I was 13 years old in 1986. I was lucky enough to get them back then and was so excited when I saw images of this new pair pop up on social media, but was GUTTED to find out they were Friends & Family only. I’m happy you got a pair because you appreciate them at least, but, from what I’ve heard, several people who received them think Weapons are trash. Such a shame.
The Converse Weapon is the sneaker that got me into shoes. No joke. Got my first pair as a kid when Converse wasn't owned by Nike yet. I've always loved the shoe. When I found out these were coming back on the market, it wasn't a choice. I had to have them. I've had lots of iterations of the shoes in my lifetime, and it's one of my favorite sneakers to this day. I agree that if you're going to release the Larry Bird pair you need to release the corresponding Magic Johnson shoe as well. Anything else is a missed opportunity. But I also think the other colors from the tv commercial should be re-released too. Those have never gotten as much love as these two. Converse should be flooding the market with Weapons right now. Not being cute with little limited releases. We the people want to arm ourselves, Converse. Give us your weapons.

So funny you dropped this review today . I've been waiting to get these since the site was being weird and didn't have anything bigger then a 10.5 but finally grabbed them today. My cousin had these when I was little and was the shoe that made me fall in love with sneakers

Those low tops are on my list for "by the door" shoes for this summer. Those are super clean and quality is there. Glad to see this review! Mice used to scare me growing up, but I have moved past it.
I googled a pair of shoes and you were the first video that popped up in google so your engagement is doing really well. This is kinda cool, I remember seeing these in middle school.
I had the Magic's back in the 80s when I was a kid. They have to release them. I don't think I can pull these off now in my 40's, but I would probably buy to display. Thanks for putting a smile on my face with the nostalgia.

Been waiting for a proper retro of these for years, and I’m so happy Converse finally did it. Just got my Black pairs and I LOVE them. Superb leather quality, and lots of inner and tongue padding making for an overall comfy shoe, plus the polyurethane insole helps a lot. All that for $120, meanwhile my Jordan retros cost $180 - $250 and leather on those can’t even come close to the Weapons. Do better Jordan brand, do better.
PS. Dear Converse, please release the lakers colorway to the public. I need and WANT them alongside my black Larry Bird pairs. Or better yet, eventually roll out all the original team colorways, having a wall of all them in my place would be the dream.
I had the red, white, and blue ones that they released in the early 2000’s. I absolutely loved them. The insole had a textured surface to the top. I was really hoping that they did that with these but it looks like they didn’t.

wow I used to play with those lakers weapons color way. yes it’s true, it’s bottom heavy but those heel support do really works. hoping they do bring them back.

I bought a pair of the Bird hi tops and I gotta say they are beautiful: nice leather, super comfortable, and not that expensive at all.
As a matter of fact I think this model has a very high quality/cost ratio, just like in Converse aren't believing they made a great product.
Got the black and white pair and they are absolute fire🔥. Also very comfortabele. Can't wait to get the Laker colorway, absolute grail and been wanting those since I was 13.

I Remember my Uncle Had The Larry Bird’s, i believe it was 85’ish…!!! It’s an infamous pair of sneakers for my Neighborhood, Mostly Kats we’re wearing Chuck Taylors, Dunks, Puma’s, Cuga’s & Pro Wings from Payless….Black & Red Suede Puma’s was the First Sneaker That Had Our Entire Neighborhood in A Frenzy and Shell Toe Adidas….My Uncle Wore Nothing But Converses All Day Every Day….Only 2 People wore the Air Jordan 1’s Back Then & That Was Buggie & FAT DANTE’(R.I.P.)….when we moved from Dayton Ohio to Middle Tennessee, I finally saw people wearing The Magic’s & The Bird’s….I remember Isaiah Thomas had his Pistons PE

Love Converse and what they’re doin for the past few years the CX foam is the best thing they did for the cushioning hoping for more hoop shoes.
Thank you Chris again for supporting the shoe that got me onto sneakers. Sadly Converse's marketing team isn't getting funded or just straight up lacks interest in Converse's history/fans. I know Nike is pulling the strings but even they've come up short for a decade plus now. It actually makes sense that they'd play it safe and only release these. It's been the play book for awhile now. Safe to say now we'll never see the rest of the ERX line, Magic's Signature, more Aero/React stuff, the NBA branded stuff when they had the rights and many more. I've been lucky enough to pick up a couple pairs of weapons and other vintage converse from the few times they figured it out but now they are far past being able to be wore. Anyways solid video again brother.

Great review. IIRC Converse also had a shoe called the Revolver, same as the Weapon, just a lower tier and price point. And, technically road kill can be quite dangerous. Bacteria, disease, and some predators actually eat road kill so you never know what could be lurking nearby.

I used to have the green and white pair back in the 80’s! The green and white ones were the true Celtic Birds!!!! They were fire 🔥 I’m very surprised Converse did not release the Green and white ones!!! This could be a break out re release for them! But of course Converse is Conversing! Great video!!

Back in the day you had to wear these around the house with 2-3 pairs of socks on for about a week to break them in before you could hoop in them.

I got my Larry legend weapons last week! It is an absolute dream from when I was a kid. I grew up being the biggest Larry Bird fan, and loved the Celtics. It makes absolutely no sense to me that they wouldn’t release the magic and bird at the same time, that feels like a massive Miss.
I have a friend who is a huge Celtics fan, especially that era, and I found him an original 1986 poster of the choose your weapon ad you showed in the video!

1987, my junior year of high school, we had the Weapons as our team shoe and OOF they were hard and heavy and you could literally kill somebody if you wanted to. 🤣

I was from Worcester, MA, when these dropped. We drove to the Converse Outlet in Malden, about 2.5 hrs rd trip & got 2 prs each, we barely had $ for gas and cheap beer those days… but we had $ for sneakers 🏀👍

They were our team shoes when I was kid. They were every school’s team shoes do to all the colors. Don’t ever wear them to a pool party. If you fall in with these on you will sink to the bottom in seconds.

BITD when I had these, my feet were never hotter, but with the thick socks too. But I loved em. These look like brick shit houses now! They look fresh AF on your wall now! Great review! 👌🏻I wonder what playing in these would be like now?
I want the Magic Highs. I hope they eventually release them for the public. I played basketball in those back in the 80’s. I had a connection at converse, so actually owned multiple pairs in different color ways.
Birds. Something about a bird flying at me full speed and hitting me upside the head just puts me on my toes whenever a flock flies by.
I'm 45 years old and I was a kid when these came out. I'd argue that the popularity of this shoe vs the Jordan 1 was based on fan fair. You wouldn't catch a die hard Laker or Celtics fan in a pair of Jordan's. I'd even go as far to say that the Weapons, Pony, Reebok, and Jordan's were pretty much the same basic design. Jordan's really didn't cross over to other basketball fans until the 4.
Was about to pull the trigger on the Bird joints, but they're sold out in big sizes. Interested to try these out though
