    So many of these in Australia, they are literally rotting out on farms everywhere. The HJ45 was a na 4L diesel, generally good for 500-600k km

    Awesome trucks, here in Honduras they are still the work horses of inland coffee farms and cattle ranches, they are powered by an inline 6, 3.6l Diesel H engine.

    Over in my country ( Venezuela) the Fj45 is super common, they’re everywhere and still use as daily/work truck to this day. The vast majority of them still rocking the 2F or 3F engine

    Those trucks are legends here in Costa Rica 🇨🇷, they were literally the workhorses in the coffee farms... they gained reputation of being indestructible and people said joking that you could easily climb a tree with one of those without even revving the engine 🤣... a lot of them are still running and being restored all around the country, glad to see this one in perfect shape👌🏾

  • @PatrickRich
    @PatrickRich Před 2 lety +10

    If it was from Costa rica was it a Bandeirante or Japanese made? I can't say Im for the 4bt conversion. I think a mild turbo 1hz would have been the better choice, but I'm glad that he's happy with it.. The 4BT is a bit of a boneshaker and the 1HZ is so silky.

    Land Cruiser, the official workhorse of Central America. These pickups trucks (and their “SUV” counterpart whatever they are called) where used and abused in coffee plantations and dairy farms for decades until they eventually became too old, too worn and too rusty (especially rusty due to rain and mud) to keep in service. Now they are getting “restored” locally and then sent abroad where they sell, sometimes, for unreasonable amounts of money! Who would have thought that an old and abused work instrument would become so expensive!
    I remember a few years ago we were to take a look at an old pickup truck like this that was for sale. It was “cheap” but decades of work at a dairy farm had taken its toll on the body and chassis. The chassis was too rusty to be saved and there was evidence of several poorly done resprays in the past, collision damage, lots of bondo everywhere, trashed interior, it had a wooden bed that was rotten and it needed mechanical work too. In other words, it was a complete basket case not worthy of restoration.
    Finding a good or even decent example of that kind of car is next to impossible and when one appears is expensive, so most of the examples that are exported to the USA are basket cases like the one that I described that are patched, resprayed, reupholstered and refurbished mechanically so they look nice and can be sold easily for a good profit. If you were to buy a good example or restore it a good example, there wouldn’t be any money to be made. So, if you are considering one of these, go a take a look at it in person and check it very well so you don’t buy an overpriced rust bucket that will rust again and look like thrash in a few short years.
