Your videos are so interesting and informative. I got my sewing badge the project was a box pleat skirt . I added 3 one inch pleats on each hip. Peace.

the "u" in Kingussie is pronounced like "you", with the emphasis on it. King-YOU-see. At least that's how I've always heard it on the train tannoy as we've passed through it, travelling up and down the country, which I've done for a couple of decades now, and again this evening.

I like the reverse kingussie as it gives a vary symmetrical look to the kilt as a whole. it's not to much harder to iron as a knife pleat

And you can hide side pockets inside the pleats.

Would it be fair to say that box pleats are more appropriate to outdoor work/activities vs. indoor ones? Seems like box pleats would be easier to clean and press for a kilt that's going to get lots of wear and tear in the outdoors. What say ye?

I enjoyed your video I found it very informative, I do have a question. Is there a difference between the pleating between Irish and Scottish kilts, forgive me if my question seem ignorant as I just recently discovered Scotts/Irish ancestry via DNA testing.

Welcome to the club, Sal! It's a good question. The pleating on both kilts is the same. The kilt is really a Scottish garment up until the 20th century, but there have been some in Ireland who tried to adopt it as national garb in the early part of the 20th century (to very limited success) and in the 1990's, there were a whole bunch of Irish tartans for the provinces, counties and even some names. The only 'real' difference between an "Irish kilt" and a "Scottish kilt" is the tartan chosen. The construction of the garment is the same.

on box pleating - we don't have the whole varsity hype thing over here, so luckily the comparison to cheerleader skirts wouldn't be made. I like box pleating and am in the process of getting my first box pleated kilt, however I would consider it a bit less formal looking than knife or military pleating, so will be reserved for daywear.

I just ordered a four yard box pleated kilt as well in the Wallace tartan . I like the look of them as well as the historical aspect and they are not common so it is a bit of a standout . And mine is for casual use as well...mainly for my daily walking exercise . What tartan are you getting for yours BT ?

Cool . Naming....yeah....Blundering Tusk Ancient " might be a bit awkward ! LOL . I also just ordered a five yard kilt ( knife pleated ) in the MacNab ancient tartan . I should be getting both kilts ( from different kilt makers ) around May .
