    I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but a boat marina can be a source of 95 - 100 octane low lead gasoline that the "pencil boats" use. Some still run two Packard built British type 12 cylinder Rolls - Royce Merlin engines (the engine famous for the North American P-51B - D fighters used in WWII that wrecked the German and Japanese empires). This gasoline can last 30 years with a stabilizer mixed in. My uncle had a 100 gallon tank of this stuff behind the barn down in Osceola, PA for over 50 years running the 1/4 mile in a heavily modded Dodge 440 Coronet running 850 shp into the rear end. A gasoline tanker driver kept him "tanked up" with the dregs he carried to the local airfield until 1998 when my uncle passed on. I ran it in my 1979 GMC and never did it go bad when the truck sat for a year or two being restored or modified. I ran it from a barn in Victor NY to Montgomery AL in 2008 with the original gas in it until a refill in Roanoke VA mixed in with it, then it ran crappy until I got it home in Alabama and was able to retune the carbs and timing to eat the crappy 93 octane gas we use today. Take the alcohol (ethanol or methanol, or a mixture of both) out of today's gas, and it will last 5 years + without stabilizer. I tested it in a metal can in a dry outbuilding, then poured it into a new gas tank for my GMC, and it ran beautifully after all those years in the can.
    So, find an airfield or marina that still has the 100 octane good stuff, and never care how much it costs if you want gas that will stay good for years. I used to put two or three gallons of K-1 kero in the tank to clean out the carbs and gas lines every six months or so if I was going to run the GMC for a while, then, before storage again, I would use the gas line shutoff to empty the carbs until the engine shut down by itself. I filled the tanks full before I put the truck into storage so I wouldn't have condensation buildup. It is ready to go anytime, just need to throw a battery into it. The GMC is EMP proof - no computers in it now and the alternator is isolated by grounding the socket and the field energiser is grounded, too. No problem.

      Given the direction things are going, I'm planning on cleaning out the empty (and rust free) 55gal drum in my shop and filling it with the 91 octane EF I can get near my work. I figure even with today's prices, I'll be in much better shape to stock up now so I can keep it ready to use in case SHTF or prices double.....again.

    You can buy metal gas cans made by Eagle for $58.00. I live in Florida so preparing is a way of life here. Many of my plastic gas cans have delaminated and began to leak. All I store gas in now is metal, its the only safe option available. Storing gasoline in a plastic can in your garage is a disaster waiting to happen.

    • @survivedoomsday
      @survivedoomsday  Před 4 lety +3

      The only "problem" I could see is that you're letting gas rest up against the spout, versus the spout/opening being at the top without gas resting against it. Should that seal become compromised for some reason, it could leak.

    What do you think of storing the gas in a doghouse at the end of my property (about 50 feet away from the house) at the fence which is at the base of a hill? I live on top of a mountain and am afraid of keeping gas near or in the house. I heard it has to be in a well vented area and saw some doghouses with venting (a lot of them seem to advertise that) I would appreciate your insights. Also, if anyone else has any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks- PS I have a shed about 8 feet from the house but am afraid to keep gas so close to house. (lots of wood)

    • @survivedoomsday
      @survivedoomsday  Před 4 lety
