i think four and that era gets overshadowed by mitam and midnight memories a lot but it’s so good!! truly peaked with that album cover and harry’s hat
Absolutely agree with Made in the AM. Even though they have some of the best songs in there, the album doesn't feel cohesive to me, compared to FOUR
i truly just think midnight memories will forever be their best era/album. might be a little biased tho since that’s the one they performed on the where we are tour in 2014 :,)

four is definitely my personal favorite and in my opinion their best as well! i think made in the am has some incredible tracks but i also think it was evident how much zayn added to their sound that i definitely missed. overall i would say i agree with your ranking! in terms of my favorites i'd say four, take me home, midnight memories, made in the am, & up all night.
Up All Night *does* hit at the 1D club nights. Those are straight up bangers
I actually don't think all of the backtracking for Made in the AM is surprising because there was so much going on behind the scenes of the band / trouble after Zayn left & the label and all of that shit.
so I think made in the am was just really kinds cramming songs together which (I feel like) had been sitting in the drafts and then were adjusted musically to a "new" kind of theme for made in the am Vs. four / mm (where the songs didn't make the cut).
idk how to explain it really but it feels like the boys said "let's get this done" to the label because they were just SOOOO majorly overworked and just overall DONE. and then the label kinda did that, crammed the songs together (plus maybe love you goodbye etc as new songs) and shot a few photoshoots plus their significantly high amount of interviews and show appearances and then called it a day. idk, I'm probably wrong but that's what I feel like

Made in the a.m. is their BEST album, in my opinion! By far my fave!

this was so well articulated and on point! i really like your point about running with the themes of like travel or midnight memories, i feel like that could have been really cool and i’ve always felt they could have been more confident in what they wanted to be each era branding wise. love this series excited for the next one

i totally think that FOUR has no bad songs. it’s the strongest album as a whole. midnight memories definitely shortly follows but there are some songs that are misses for me. the singles on FOUR are my favorites

Love this series and you explain your opinions so well! Made in the AM is a solid album, but for sure a step down from Four. If MitAM had come earlier in their discography it would probably seem better than it is. Similarly, I think Midnight Memories would have received better critical reviews if it was the first album of a new group rather than a third album that felt like such a departure from the first two albums.
Iirc the Katy Perry line in Up All Night is a nod to her being a guest judge in the X Factor auditions that put some of the boys (definitely Niall, maybe one of the others) through to boot camp, which enabled him to even be part of 1D.
Thank you also for acknowledging how fun UAN is as an album. Take Me Home is essentially a more mature Up All Night in most ways, which you mentioned.
FOUR is my favorite for sure, I'm a sucker for the indie pop stuff! fireproof is FANTASTIC

all of the negative critic reviews are pretty much just them saying they don’t like boybands or music made for teen girls
Might be an unpopular opinion but MITAM is the best album for me, Four and MM are also great but idk what it is MITAM just has a special place in my heart ❤️

MY JAW STRAIGHT UP DROPPED WHEN I LEARNED THAT METACRITIC SAID THAT MIDNIGHT MEMORIES WAS WORSE THAN THE PRIOR TWO ALBUMS- It was always my favorite one out of the stuff that they released :(

You were able to put into words what I feel about MITAM. I've always loved that album, but felt like something was ''off''. This album had some of their BEST stuff, but it's not cohesive. Or at least, not AS cohesive as Four or Midnight memories. MITAM sounds a bit too much ''radio pop hits'' some times. That's why 'ive always had mixed feeling about this album. (but it's in third place for me). Midnight memories and four are just TOO good.

I agree about the feeling that Made In The AM was a bit rushed, done as a goodbye album and wasn't as cohesive as the others but.. we are all subjective here and I can't be the only one that's ABSOLUTELY FUMING that MITAM wasn't at least 3rd in the rankings it has some of the most honest, raw and emotionnal songs of 1D
But overall you did a fantastic job, thank you! Your video really showcased how underrated four truly is.
Also and I believe this is one section that might be worth exploring:the tracklist choices including the order of the songs,the singles, some songs that were only released on deluxe versions..( How wasn't Home included in MITAM, who allowed Why Don't We Go There to be in MM,why were Steal My Girl and Hey Angel first tracks...)

Question to anyone out there: have you seen the videos Niall posted and that he has put an EP out with 5 Old songs because I have not seen it mentioned any where the videos also have very low view count with less than 10k and feel like I'm going crazy.

FOUR is definitely Liam’s album, he wrote the most on it and it feels like he influenced it more than the others. The fact that it’s their best album completely makes all the Liam hate complete idiocy tbh

Made in the AM is a bit fractured, compared with the other albums, the sense of the band pulling apart and going their separate ways. Midnight Memories is my personal favourite, but I also like Four a lot.
