    A couple tricks to try....use plastic coated freezer paper rather than parchment...it releases much more cleanly when peeled off, and try to reach around your turntable and take hold so that you can make ONE COMPLETE TURN without stopping...stopping and starting leaves marks in the icing...this way you will only have the mark where you end your turn...that becomes the cake's back!

    • @AsiaCoffee
      @AsiaCoffee  Před 5 lety

      Whipped cream is quite soft, so I doubt that this method will work due to the weight of the cake layers. Icing a cake with whipped cream frosting is best accomplished using a right side up method. I'll add your idea to my list of upcoming videos. Thanks for watching!

    When do we add cake dowels?

    • @AsiaCoffee
      @AsiaCoffee  Před 3 měsíci +1

      For a single tier cake with 3 cake layers or less, you don’t really need dowels. If you’re stacking multiple tiers, the dowels/straws would go in after the cake is frosted/iced. I go into more detail in this video: czcams.com/video/tvOR60Bdfpc/video.htmlsi=W8ZP6J6B_1IHf6Zq. Thanks for watching! 💕

    • @AsiaCoffee

      I would recommend placing it in the refrigerator instead for those 30 minutes. I take the cake and entire turntable and sit it on a shelf inside the refrigerator for that time. Thanks for watching!

    So I noticed that you didn't use a crumb coat🤔 Is it not necessarily needed when doing this method? Great video by the way!!!

    • @AsiaCoffee
      @AsiaCoffee  Před 7 lety +2

      Correct! You can do this with or without a crumb coat. The crumb coat will give you better coverage, but it's not mandatory (especially if you're running low on icing). I'm glad that you're enjoying the videos!

    • @way2pyNk
      @way2pyNk Před 7 lety

      Mrs.CoffeesCakes thanks one more question lol Do you have to stay within that little circle that you drew when applying the icing?

    • @AsiaCoffee
      @AsiaCoffee  Před 7 lety +1

      It doesn't need to be exact. You can go (and should go) outside of the circle up to about 1/2 inch. When you use the straight edge to smooth the sides to your cake board, it will all even out and create crisp sides!

      +Jenny O (jennysboxofchocolates) Thanks for your reply Jenny O! To piggyback on her comment: yes, this will work with American style buttercream (recipe with powdered sugar). You'll want to make sure the consistency of this buttercream is thin/loose (not runny) and smooth for best results. Good luck!

    i would love to see how to icing a upside down cake with royal icing because all i am see is with butter cream

    • @AsiaCoffee
      @AsiaCoffee  Před 7 lety +1

      Hi Sophia! You don't want to ice your cake with royal icing unless you're attempting to cover a styrofoam dummy cake for a competition. Royal icing dries super hard and you would have a hard time cutting/eating a cake iced with it. Buttercream, fondant, ganache and modeling chocolate (in panels) are recommended to ice your cake. I hope this helps!

    • @AsiaCoffee
      @AsiaCoffee  Před 4 lety

      Hi there! The scrapper that I used was a large metal spackling knife from the hardware store. It's fine to use non-cake decorating tools like this HOWEVER 1) Make sure to clean and sanitize such tools before use and 2) Use these tools for cake decorating only! I will upload an updated video of this technique using American-style buttercream in the next few weeks. Please subscribe so you don't miss it! Thanks for watching! 😉
