Nintendo 64 Longplay - Diddy Kong Racing Part 1

- The first of many parts, and second requested full run of this iconic Nintendo 64 game, made by RARE. When RARE was still in it's prime. The course of this run, will use a clean save. Attaining all balloons & finding all keys. As well as getting first place in all races if possible.
I am not invoking the "no restart" rule in this run on boss races. Because some boss races are just ass. If you have played this game, you know exactly what I mean. So far, the restart count totals up to 1 for this video as of current. I dick around for my own amusement in this video.
I did a video of this years ago, but back then, I didn't have a good recorder. I have a much better one now, and I am omitting that older video. The next set of DKR Videos will be done on Thursday.

So I'm watching this gameplay right... and I see flashes of memories playing this. No joke I can't quite put my finger on it, but I remember everything about this game, but I don't remember ANYTHING about this game. If that makes sense. XD

@Jawunleashed it makes perfect sense. I couldnt remember any of the levels but as soon as he started playing, all the strategies, coin locations, boost locations, everything came back.

As a story game it was miles better. There was much more to do. As a multilayer Mario kart was better imo.

One of the most unique racing games I've ever played.
Still own the N64 and this game but haven't played it for years! Imagine this game being remastered like the Spyro games were remastered recently... It would be amazing.

I love the subtle change in music when you're driving through the main lobby. LIke when you go into a snowy area you start hearing jingling in the music. What a nice touch to an already good game.
Rare was always amazing with how they did that. Banjo-Kazooie was another great example of that, both in Gruntilda's Lair and in the levels themselves the song would have a few variations.
Excellent game, you can tell they put a ton of work into it.

Unfortunately I'm too young to have experienced this on the N64 but I did grow up with this game on the DS... Almost exactly the same, brings back good memories

It's a calculated risk, if you get them, they increase your speed for the entire time, if you miss, you just went the long way with no reward.
Yeah, that first boss is a bitch. If you don't manage to get ahead of him within the first few seconds, you're pretty much fucked.

I had forgotten how good the soundtrack to this game is! I especially like how each character or region of the main map change the mood of the song by introducing new instruments and melodies. The music was so perfectly thought-out!

That would be hard, this game is a legal hole, because it has characters that now are owned by Nintendo and characters that are now owned by Microsoft, and the company that made the game now makes game just for Xbox and PC. This game is not owned by anyone, and that's a shame.

I had very vague memories of this as a child. I thought it was a dream lol.
Used to play this at a friend's house in elementary school. We'd walk together to the horrible neighborhood he lived in after school and sit in front of the screen for hours. Both of his parents were deaf and just let him do whatever the fuck he wanted so we'd crank the volume up to full blast and gorge on junk food all afternoon.
If Pipsy wasn't your main them gtfo lol. Such a good game with so many secrets and things you had to do. Hearing the soundtrack and race narraration is bringing back the memories lol. This was my first N64 game. I remember that Christmas like it was yesterday. Though I swear the game was harder than this lmaoo

This really does bring back such good memories of me and my 3 brothers as kids playing video fames together/ lifecwas alot easier back then, and I remember the way the house used to look back then, its changed so much since then. My family life/ relationship back then was so much better then it is now- miss those memories
Used to love the tropical island races. I used to just wander round them on time Trial as if I were on holiday myself, cause as a kid my parents couldn't afford to take us on trips abroad. Did the same with super mario sunshine and super mario 64 too. Sad I know, but it was the little things that kept me going! Being an adult is super frikkin sucky.
Also the hand cramps I used to get trying to beat that damn dinosaur up the mountain. Pain was real lol

I'm probably quite a bit older than most people here but l still loved this game. It was amazing how at the time it had the ability to make me feel nostalgia despite being a new game. The overall feel of it reminded me of fantasy cartoons of the 80s, Wizpig always struck me as someone who would hassle Rainbow Brite or Teddy Ruxpin and the bosses being surprisingly friendly despite being tough competition reminded me of the friendly or at least respectful competitive spirit of playground games. One of my favorite aspects (often overlooked) is how it kept to the tradition of making the first level a grassland level (even though aesthetically Ancient Lake fit Dragon Forest a lot better than the Dino Domain, it was a perfect first level). I love the little nods to tradition in Nintendo games like that (first level is usually a grassland or forest, second level is usually a desert, and so on).

amazing game. When I was little, I saved up my money I earned from raking leaves for the neighbours to buy Mario Kart. I ended up finding this for cheaper, so I got this with some candy on top of it instead. I ended up never buying mario kart because I thought this game was blew it out of the water anyways :,)
