  • How to weather and detail a scratch built structure in N scale. Here is how I weathered and detailed Berend Bros Farm & Garden. You can use these same techniques for your model railroad layout. This is part 3 of my series entry into BBC v2 sponsored by Eric Hall and IMRROcom.

    I have had a ball building this structure. Watch next week for my next modeling video, How to Make Great Pine Trees. Also starting next week I will be sharing model railroading resources each Friday on Feature Friday. Be sure to check it out and let me know what you think.

    Making models is pretty straightforward, but making them look _real_ and breathing some life into them is an art, and you're a true artist.

    This is a very nice building that you have made.

    A little late for a comment perhaps ,but I too wear a rubber glove when weathering my structures and whatnot.I also make sure the parts are clean and not handled afterwards.Nothing like adding some weathering powders(I use AIME/Monroe) and seeing finger prints in the finish.
    Great job Ron .Now to watch more of your videos.

I'm looking for N-scale buildings in that style but am having the hardest time finding them. Did you make them or buy them? If so where and what's their brand? Thank you so much!

    hi there ron great video's. been modeling for a while, but decided to stop a few years ago. i was looking at a model shop website in the uk where i am from. and noticed a train made by kato named sdp40 maersk sealand, and a santa fe sdp40. i thought they were superb looking models. i have never seen them before. so i purchased both of them. so i have started building a north amercan layout which i do prefer over uk layouts. the 2 engines i have should run in the same era, but i want to run a passenger train, but i am not sure what ran in this time period. any help or advise would be appreciated. regards andy-----

    • @RonsTrainsNThings
      @RonsTrainsNThings  Před 6 lety

      SDP40s were made in the late 60s through 1970. By this time passenger service was waning among freight carriers. In 1971 Amtrak was founded and took over virtually all passenger service across the country. Amtrak ran hand-me-down clunkers from the freight roads for the first few year, including a lot of old F units that Class I railroads were clearing out of their rosters. In 1975 Amtrak started purchasing EMD F40PHs, which became THE iconic Amtrak loco for the next 20+ years. So, you could run early 70s with old beat up F units or mid 70s with new F40PHs. Amtrak also ran some SDP40Fs similar to the locos you have, but I honestly don't know much about them. Hope this helps.
