- Slovakia has elected nationalist-left government candidate Peter Pellegrini as the new president of the country. The close ally of populist Prime Minister Robert Fico defeated pro-western Ivan Korčok, a former diplomat, with 53% of the vote. Experts warned that Pellegrini "will loosen ties” with Slovakia’s allies and partners in NATO and the EU with “weaker support for Ukraine and leaning towards Russia".
