Familiarity with Ipe has been growing for many years. Few people are familiar with Cumaru, which offers the same in longevity and beauty. These two species are so similar, that they are used interchangeably in several noteworthy commercial applications. Cumaru is also more cost effective than Ipe.

i have decking around swimming pool and on the stairs on adriatic coast of croatia. absolutely insane quality for purpose, no need for any maintenance, i just left it, and wood just become creamy silver with light silver streaks, looks smooth like velvet against sun. for now, 6 years of heawy usage, simply nothing happen to wood

How to identify (check) that the wood is ipe wood?

Thanks for this informative video. Would you recommend finishing Ipe with lacquer if it's to be used for window frames?

You could use it on these woods, for INTERIOR use. I highly recommend against using that on outdoor applications. It is likely to flake and peel.
