I worked in a IV therapy pharmacy as well dealing with Dextrose and Sodium chloride-most hazardous chemotherapy was few-done by the RpH-but the lessons on how to handle hazardous materials wastes drugs is throughly taught-
Hello I’m a new subscriber and your videos are informative. I’m glad I came across your channel as I’m about to start school for the pharmacy technician program.
Let me know anyway I can help.
This is so inspirational 😍😍😍
You’re welcome 😇
This is wonderful.
Can you show us an IV RX order that you get (but keep patient info hidden) and then show us how you calculate it and what percentage of what drug you need to use to mix and fill your medication while you’re filling?
That would be so incredibly helpful :)
Definitely that’s easy work. Once I show you you won’t believe how easy it is.
If you don't mind me asking, Do you see this being your career? I've seen a lot of people be a pharmacy tech while in school or planning to do something else but I'm interested in making this a career, specifically an IV Pharm Tech. I find it really interesting and will be starting a program in January. After a few years, do you think your pay is decent? That's another thing I'm worried about. But I'd rather have a job I enjoy then focus on just the money.
Thank you for this! I am finishing my Pharm Tech program ! You are Amazing!!
You’re very welcome ☺️
Hello I've been watching your videos and so happy so made this one. I am going back to work in retail but I've been curious about working at a hospital. This is so cool!
Aww 🥰 Thank you. Just know that ppl are going to tell you what you can’t do…yes you can!!
I just discovered your channel sis you are amazing, I'm a pharmacy technician too I work in the hospital 🏥as well I look forward to IV training someday and I feel what you seeing to take a class to become certified in IV Technician so you can get better training so I'm definitely going to research schools in my area in Atlanta
Great!! Make yourself valuable ❤️
I’ve worked as a vet tech for about thirty years and I’m thinking of taking a course in being a pharmacy technician. This is interesting to see how IVs are prepped in a hospital. Animal hospitals are not as strict sterile as a human hospital.
You should definitely do it!! Always keep pushing to aspire more.
Did you ever take the TPV test? If so, how was it? I'm scheduled to take it next month. I've been in academia for 13 years, but I'm very nervous to take it. I love training techs and students in sterile compounding. We actually use the administration port to prime the IV bag for the nurses when doing chemo. My college is a licensed training facility for NPTA/ACPE to train techs and students in sterile and none-sterile compounding.
I’m already a Tech-Check-Tech at my job.
I'm surprised they allow you to have long nails. We are not allowed to wear makeup, have long nails, or wear jewelry if we are mixing drugs.
None of those are allowed at all in the IV room. I don’t even wear perfumes when working in the IV room. However, if I’ve attended an event the days prior and I still have acrylic nails on I’ll double glove. Those nails are impossible to take off.
I went through a program twice. The second one was more Hospital focus wit vaccinations/IV therapy and compounding.
Interesting 🧐
I am seriously considering a career change! This is inspirational and informational - BIG-TIME! After seeing and hearing your enthusiasm and intelligence I am certain that I have a new goal now of becoming an Anesthesiologist. I just turned 40, so I am a tad concerned with my late start. Do you have some encouraging words for me? Do you think it is too late? I mean, “it’s NEVER too late, age is just a number” I believe those words mostly…but, realistically - I know it will be hard, but I am extremely interested in Psychology (as a Bachelors) and then going to med-school afterwards. Do you think tying in Pharmacy to me education would be beneficial…?
edit: YOU ARE SO FANTASTIC! Thank you for this video and your hard work. Your accomplishments are fuel for me to move forward with a hard decision…but I really REALLY want it! You are a doll! THANK YOU SO MUCH.
You’re so welcome. This really means a lot ❤️❤️

I hope this question doesn’t offend u I’m just curious bc I like getting acrylics now and then (just work in retail pharmacy) but do they get in the way when you compound IVs or any other duties? I’m assuming u get used to it but just curious :)
You’re not supposed to wear them in the IV room, however sometimes we have weddings, parties, etc to attend. If I have my nails from an event I’ll double glove until I remove them.
No acrylic nails, no nail polish, no makeup ! I can go on and on lol
My hospital is so strict with not having nails done in the IV room and it’s so frustrating
I normally didn’t wear them when I worked in there. If I had to I would double glove to protect the patients.
Hey. I’m curious on how was your schedule in the hospital? Did you work longer shifts since hospitals are 24/7?
Well, I’ll say this. Don’t work at a hospital if you’re not prepared to work the graveyard shift. There’s 4 shifts: Morning, mid, evening and graveyard.
Hello, I came upon your channel and IV tech seems very interesting. I apologize for the dumb question, how do you become an IV pharmacy tech? Is it through pharmacy technician school 1st and then you can get certified or trained in IV? Thanks I’m advance for your help.
That’s not a dumb question at all. Either you can do on the job training or if you’re a certified pharmacy technician you can sign up on PTCB website but there are stipulations so make sure you read carefully.
I have a certificate/license in dental assisting but I've been having an extremely hard time finding a dental office to work at but have lots of retail experience and got hired at a pharmacy recently on the front end but will be getting a pharmacy technician license as part of my specific position. I've also heard that hospital pharmacy tech stuff is different than retail and have been considering a pharmacy technician for 3 years now. Is this a good career for a late 20s guy to get into? Thanks in advance.
Late 20’s you’re just breaking into life!! My goodness, you can do anything your heart desires. But yes, it’s a great career that can motivate you to do more in the health care field.
I had dental assisting training and had an extremely hard time as well finding a job in the dental field but for years I had an interest in pharmacy technician dating back to the 80's
I just saw a job posting about this in north carolina with Duke Health just wanted to see if I want to this
Just keep looking at a couple of my videos, and I’m sure you’ll make a decision.
My job wears the same scrub colors for pharm techs. Is this common?
It all depends on the company you work for, everywhere is different.
Hello, I just found your channel. I’m a newly licensed pharmacy technician and got offered an opportunity to work in an outpatient oncology facility. I have a little bit of experience from the training I took in school for pharmacy technician. My problem was always making sure my syringe doesn’t go out of the liquid when I’m pulling from a vial. Any tips or tricks to avoid that?
Oh my goodness, I would have to give you a demonstration. I’m going to screenshot this comment. I will try my best to make a video over this. Follow me on TikTok and if I remember, I’ll try to make a video Monday when I get to class.
Where can I learn iv training. I’ve had many job offers but they require iv knowledge
PTCB and NPTA offer it. I went through NPTA for mine, which is located in Houston, Texas.
Get it in tho
❤️❤️❤️
Why do you wipe down after you wash your hands and put clean gloves on, instead of wiping down first and then wash hands and put clean gloves on?
When you say “Wipe down” wdym?
Did you touch your phone after putting the sterile gloves on?
Hi im 35 years old do you think im still can get into pharmacy technician? Im debating, i want to change from my current job
Girl yes!! The pharmacy doesn’t age discriminate at all. As long as you can type, fill medication’s and run medication’s you’re good to go.
wtf i thought you were like 20. At what age did you get into this ? im just getting into pharm tech an im 29 . where did you go to school ? im at an adult school rn an dont like it feel like im not learning as much as i should be. do you know if north west collage is good or worth it ?
Hi there! No I’m not 20 I am 42 years of age. I became a pharmacy technician in 2008. I’m not familiar with North West colleges.
You may want to go on that colleges website and see if you can find reviews or just look up reviews on Google about that particular college.
@@PharmacyTechLove ok thank you
I just found this area of work. I like it but there’s not enough $… now I’m discouraged. I want to make a career change😢
It’s really all depending on where you work. If you feel like you’re not making enough money it’s time to change jobs. Trust me, there are jobs that will pay you what you’re worth.
Hay, are you covering all the chapters? I couldn't find ch 9 and up, please
I am totally confused on what you mean by chapter 9. All what chapters?
@PharmacyTechLove sorry for making you confused 😕 I meant the pharmacy technician book because I understood your lesson, then my teacher THANK YOU
Wow, i always like your videos. How do i get a pharmacy tech job in the hospital? What is the process? Could you educate me. Thanks
Just simply apply, it’s like any other job.
@@PharmacyTechLove I have been applying but no luck probably because, i have no experience yet. They need at least 6 months experience.
Not really, I went in with none. I only had retail experience. Keep, applying and be patient.
@@PharmacyTechLove Thank you
Your back is to the camera we can't see what you're doing. Also try using version for some the speed up
Everything I do is for a reason but thank you for visiting my channel 🥰
Monette it’s an iv hood and needs to be sterile. She can’t put her camera or phone in it. Also the speed is great bc we can see everything in real time and she has time to explain everything in the video.
Is the IV certification the same thing as a Hazardous Compounding Certification Course? Where did you get certified?
No, hazardous is normally dealing with chemotherapy agents. And you have to be in the biological safety cabinet to work with those medication’s not in a horizontal flow hood.
I got certified in Houston, Texas through NPTA.
Is it possible for a newly certified tech to get hired into a hospital or is experience always required?@PharmacyTechLove
Was all that medication for one patient or multiple patients?
Multiple patients. You must have great integrity while working in the IV room.
I've worked retail pharmacy now I'm thinking about a hospital environment is there a whole lot of math problems that you have to do before injecting the iv bag
So you don’t pull out what you inject?
It all depends on what the label says, meaning what the doctor and pharmacist prefers.
Alligations calculations
czcams.com/video/W8HipugZdFY/video.html
Is IV certification same as sterile compounding certification?
Yes ma’am it is.
My dream job
Being a pharmacy technician is a great career!

How much does a job like this pay?
Hi there, it depends on your experience.
@@PharmacyTechLove what about entry level with little experience?
You can email me at pharmacytechlove@gmail.com for questions.
Girl I am about to be 48 in september with the way these men are acting out here IDK
It’s difficult sometimes, it’s very hard to find your person 😭
Thats in a hospital?
Yes. This particular video is, you can also perform sterile iv in a compounding pharmacy as well.
Wrong way to wear gloves though. You’re mixing the sterile and non sterile touches
I’m sorry? I’m mixing the sterile and non sterile? Exactly what does that mean? These are sterile gloves meant to mix sterile compounding medication‘s.
There is soo many things your doing wrong in this video its scary.
Enlighten ALL of us with your wisdom.
We’re waiting….
@@PharmacyTechLove Not trying to be rude and I hate to say this but I agree... Im seeing a lot of breaks in aseptic techniqure here too. Improper hand hygiene including long nails, as well as wearing makeup. Beginning at around 4:18 you contaminated your sterile gloves more than once, espeically when you used your sterile gloves to dispose of the glove packaging. Not spraying your hands, IV bags or supplies with IPA before entering the hood. All ports and bungs should be wiped with alchohol prior to being taken from the hood to protect your checker and those handling the IV bag once it has left the pharmacy. Those are just the things I could easily see, I wasnt able to see your withdrawlal technique. Im not sure where you are practicng but these are all huge no-nos where I am certified.
You touched your phone after you put your sterile gloves on first of all.
You need to go back to school or ask your job to retrain you.
I’m so ready for a career change 🤍
Make a new career move, it’s not too late 🥰
