  • Hi Everyone! Part 2 of my story with EoE is now up! I ended up in the Hospital because I had food stuck in my throat for like 18 hours! I also ended up forming a ton of anxiety around food because I kept choking on food but I have come a long way from that now.

    I got diagnosed with EoE when I was 18 (22 now) and it felt like the end of the world. I also was bummed about it because I was getting in to fitness and couldn’t eat properly, but now I’m doing better and have finally managed to put on some muscle. Swallowing pills still gives me anxiety, so I just crush them up if that’s an option. It’s really nice to hear other people’s stories, so thank you for sharing!

      Hey Jake! Man that’s too bad :/ I 100% know the feeling. I felt like my world ended as well. Especially because at the time it was so hard to train because I couldn’t eat anything. I big thing that helped me was avoid the foods that irritated my EoE then I could eat lots of other foods and train hard. I still don’t swallow pills (only these super tiny ones) I crush them up or just chew and swallow haha. Take care bud!

    I feel your pain brother, I have eoe too. I actually did a scientific trial for eoe where they wanted to test doing the scope while fully awake, so I was fully awake when they did it, it was traumatic, I'll never do it again. The hardest part was when they put it in my mouth and asked me to swallow the scope while they pushed it down further in my stomach, it felt so wrong, but I had to swallow it, and I was freaking out, it was so traumatic. But doing the scope with anaesthetic was fine for me, I didn't wake up, it was quite pleasant being put to sleep and waking up all happy and relaxed.

      Wow that doesn’t sound fun at all! I would never do something like that for sure. I agree, I honestly look forward to being sedated haha. Hope it gets better!

    How’s it going man, Just got diagnosed in February with EOE and I have to say your videos have helped me get over my panic attacks and anxiety. Have you ever had and tightening in the esophagus while working out? Or like shortness of breath or something similar to that while playing any sports?

      Hey Devonte! So sorry for late response. I’m sorry to hear, never good news. I’ve never experienced that while training. Although, when I was at my worst I couldn’t train anyways since I could barely eat. Which made firefighting at the time very difficult.

    It’s not like that in the US. I’ve had about 8 EGD (scopes). They sedate you well, and you never know any of the procedure.

      All of mine were great except the very first one. After I had a new specialist I never had that issue really. They’ve been a good experience after that

    I have just been diagnosed with EOE and I know what you're talking about with the pills. I started cutting my pills and taking each piece in a tablespoon of applesauce. It helps so much - the pills don't seem to get hung up. I also am on the elimination diet. I'm feeling much better now but it is of course impossible to eat out until I get through this. Just curious, does smoke like from your job affect your esophagus?

      Hey Julie! I'm so glad that you found a way that works for you to swallow pills. Something so small can be such a big challenge for someone with EoE. Yeah I really encourage you to stick it out and try to be as strict as possible. You will be able to eat out again eventually and it will be wonderful :D I haven't really noticed the smoke effect my throat as far as trouble swallowing but it definitely has long term effects like cancers and such. That's why I try my best to prevent stuff like that. Hope you start to figure out whats triggering your EoE!

    Thanks for sharing you journey with eoe. I'm 33 and have had eoe for since I was about 16. I also have GERD, which gives me terrible acid attacks sometimes to the point where I'm vomitting acid out. I haven't ever been able to figure out what the trigger of my eoe is. I can have a few months where it is an absolute nightmare to deal with and I'm now currently on a 7 months run where I nothing has got stuck. I haven't changed anything in my diet or lifestyle. It's a very strange condition that seems to come and go with me. I just hope it doesn't lead to Barratts oesophagus. Have you looked into that atall?

      Thanks for sharing! That’s definitely not fun to deal with. Fortunately my diet had really helped me out and I think is one of the biggest things you could do. The last part of my series should be coming out tomorrow or in a couple days where I talk about the elimination diet. This has saved me a ton! I haven’t heard of that before though no.

      Matt, when you have or had symptoms did it feel as if food would get "stuck" halfway down like in the middle of your chest area? And you have to take like a huge gulp of water to force it down. And it also burns pretty bad in that spot? Also did you get to the point where you just lose your appetite because you're scared of it getting stuck and hurting? To the point where you feel weak and lethargic because your not eating really.

      @@bjclabaugh5543 Yeah I tend to get food stuck half way down quite regularly. It's happened since I was young, so I'm used to it and able to deal with it quite well. Sometimes it can be stuck for a while and whatever I swallow will get stuck on top. When that happens I can't breath, so I have to bring the water back up. It can get stuck for some time, but usually It will go down within 30 mins. I try and force it up to dislodge it. It doesn't affect my appetite because I'm used to it I guess and have found a way to just love with it. It's just very annoying.

      @@mattsparkes2370 well this is all new to me. I've not had food physically get stuck to where it literally won't go down. It just "feels" as if it is getting stuck in my chest area but it still reaches my stomach (I assume). It just severely burns in my chest area on the way down and feels like it "hangs up" a little. This happened for 7 complete days and then BAM it was gone for 5 days and then BAM it came back and has been going strong for 5 days now. Im really really paranoid because I was looking on the internet and of course it led me straight to cancer. Im hoping its something treatable. My anxiety is thru the roof.

    What was your eosinophil count? Distal, mid, proximal? Your videos are very helpful thank you bud

    • @LKGJO
      @LKGJO  Před 3 lety

      Mine was high up in my throat. And I believe it was over 30 which isn’t good. But honestly some people have loose openings to the stomach which allows stomach acid to creep back up in the esophagus. My count changed as I tested different foods and such and also medications

    its funny you said peach because before i was diagnosed with EOE or knew what it was i had an aversion to eating peaches because they would always cause me pain and get stuck in the esophagus. apples too. not sure if it was the acids in them or what.

    • @LKGJO
      @LKGJO  Před 4 měsíci

      Ha yeah, the crazy thing was I spent hours in emergency from it just waiting and they didn't really do anything. Just slowly went down. Could definitely be caused from stomach acid in the lower part of the esophagus causing eosinophils to be present there. That's mainly why people get food stuck in the lower part.
