Verdi's overture - La forza del destino. With the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi conducted by Xian Zhang. Concert first broadcast on Radio 3 on Thursday 5 September.
Maaaaaan! This brought it ALL back - effortlessly, with the same tears from the eyes and ears of my heart like the day I performed this with my high school band under the direction of a Maestro who demanded perfection, rightfully so and we wiped every stage clean in completion. He chose pieces like that - depth of beauty, passion, meticulousness and miraculousness. I smell the stage, I feel the tears on my face as I played my clarinet through this. I remember every single note of this score, all sections. One of my favorite, along with Divine Comedy. Wonderful. Just wonderful!!!!!!
❤ Es una de las3 oberturas mas lindaa de las operas . Maestro gracias por dejarnos estas obras .arsvillosas . Soy fanatico de las operas por tu culpa . GENIO GENIO El mas grande xe todos
Yes she’s like a representative of the Chinese communist party.Sad as Verdi never did all this crash bang wallop stuff .He was Italian and romantic for God’s sake
A superb interpretation and performance. As dramatic as Verdi intended. Personally, I take the intensity of this performance to be comparable to the one Toscanini did with the NBC Symphony Orchestra (available in a rare video, the only one the maestro did). Toscanini knew Verdi personally and often discussed with Verdi about details of his music. Verdi trusted Toscanini and even accepted the suggestions of the then young conductor. One comment says the conductor and the orchestra act like robots. Nonsense.
I have just a question: why foreign orchestras use the cimbasso instead of the tuba (as Verdi wrote in his score) and an italian orchestra used the tuba?
Because in Italy we know that using a cimbasso with a modern day trombone section is quite useless and has nothing to do with what Verdi thought about the color of sound of the low brass.
" I wish to insist once again on a fourth trombone. That bombardon (bass tuba) is not possible. I would prefer a trombone basso which is in the same as the others but if turns out to be too much trouble or too difficult to play then get one of those ordinary ophicliedes that go down to low B " A quote that Verdi wrote expressing his desire to have a cylindrical bore trombone basso on the lower brass part. A cimbasso is just such an instrument and the better choice for Verdis operas..requiem etc.
I don't think she gets enough out of the strings, namely the undercurrent of the cellos, and at the very beginning just overall. Very good otherwise, though
it is too fast. too much caothic. when i listen to it i can't follow the music line because it is too fast and i don't have the time to understand to understand what's happening. I DON'T LIKE THIS VERSION
Computers actually can’t do rubato. They just don’t feel. I’m being very intentional about “don’t” vs. “can’t”; I’m sure this woman feels, but is faking it all on the podium.

Magnificent strength and tenderness. Thank you, Maestra, and BBC!
Stupenda interpretazione, presente, potente grande AMORE in un CUORE ❤️ GRANDE E GENEROSO .MERAVIGLIOSA. ❤😊
I like the tempos a lot. Reminds me of a live Dutoit/Montreal symphony performance I heard in the late 1980’s.
Ringtone entrance at 3:19 with the clarinet. A little surprise!

I didn't know that tremendous overture could sound so tedious!
She's a robot..
+Daniel Nieves Camacho Can you explain why?
Elle n'a rien d'un robot, elle est merveilleusement expressive, au contraire...
I'm talking about her amazing control
no no Daniel tiene ragione. questa cinese è un robot
and she gets the orchestra to soundling like one too..

E un orrore questa donna.
give a look of riccardo muti version you will see the oceanic difference from this little asiatic robot...
thats a total diffrent world.. Muti and WPO is the best you can get for that
Why do you say robot, all the rubato here there. Robot dont do rubato.
Computers actually can’t do rubato.
