    Maaaaaan! This brought it ALL back - effortlessly, with the same tears from the eyes and ears of my heart like the day I performed this with my high school band under the direction of a Maestro who demanded perfection, rightfully so and we wiped every stage clean in completion. He chose pieces like that - depth of beauty, passion, meticulousness and miraculousness. I smell the stage, I feel the tears on my face as I played my clarinet through this. I remember every single note of this score, all sections. One of my favorite, along with Divine Comedy. Wonderful. Just wonderful!!!!!!

    I like the tempos a lot. Reminds me of a live Dutoit/Montreal symphony performance I heard in the late 1980’s.

    A superb interpretation and performance. As dramatic as Verdi intended. Personally, I take the intensity of this performance to be comparable to the one Toscanini did with the NBC Symphony Orchestra (available in a rare video, the only one the maestro did). Toscanini knew Verdi personally and often discussed with Verdi about details of his music. Verdi trusted Toscanini and even accepted the suggestions of the then young conductor. One comment says the conductor and the orchestra act like robots. Nonsense.

    Pas mal de monde critique la direction que je trouve pour ma part fabuleuse, mais personne pour remarquer le couac de la clarinette à 04:05 (du à un mauvais retour de clé de 12eme) ... Bref, les mélomanes de boite de discothèque sont de sortie...

    I have just a question: why foreign orchestras use the cimbasso instead of the tuba (as Verdi wrote in his score) and an italian orchestra used the tuba?

    • @giuliocaloi6743
      @giuliocaloi6743 Před 3 lety +1

      Because in Italy we know that using a cimbasso with a modern day trombone section is quite useless and has nothing to do with what Verdi thought about the color of sound of the low brass.

    • @tubatrek
      @tubatrek Před 29 dny

      " I wish to insist once again on a fourth trombone. That bombardon (bass tuba) is not possible. I would prefer a trombone basso which is in the same as the others but if turns out to be too much trouble or too difficult to play then get one of those ordinary ophicliedes that go down to low B " A quote that Verdi wrote expressing his desire to have a cylindrical bore trombone basso on the lower brass part. A cimbasso is just such an instrument and the better choice for Verdis operas..requiem etc.

      Computers actually can’t do rubato.
      They just don’t feel.
      I’m being very intentional about “don’t” vs. “can’t”; I’m sure this woman feels, but is faking it all on the podium.
