Great video! The 717 is a perfect fit for short legs. I never flew the DC-9 or its descendants but I had classmates who did. I've flown jumpseat lots of times commuting to and from work. All of my buddies who flew the DC-9, MD--88/90 and the 71 loved it. It's beautifully simple and durable. On a fair weather day you could lose the electrical systems and the hydraulic systems and still safely fly it. Not many airliners can do that.

Thank you. Although the 72 is my favorite ride growing up in that era, the DC-9 was my 2nd favorite. It took a while to settle in with the 717, but it is the shorthaul workhorse, and I love it. It does remind me of a fit between the 30 and 50 series DC9.
I remember reading an article in Flying magazine of the last 71 rolling off the floor in Long Beach and felt a little sad to send an end to that production. At least they are still around domestically, for now. 🙂

Had a double take thinking you found a chartered 72 or the 9 to ride on. Having rode on mostly RJ fleet past few years, I rode the 717 for the 2nd time ever last year and it brought back the dc9 memories. The slats drop very quickly and make that noise get your attention.
Hope you have a great ride and maybe some pics.

@@Cirrious Sorry for the ambiguity. I'm flying on the 71 this Saturday. I did spend 7 1/2 years on the 72. 1 1/2 on the panel as a new hire and 6 in the right seat. Loved it!
