    For anyone who doesn’t know, it’s being extended to Benning Road and the Bridge at Union station will start renovating soon for future expansion. However, it will be awhile until a permanent structure at Union station 🚉 is built as it’s part of a even bigger renovation project that’s been long over due.

    Thanks Tim💚

    Nobody likes the street car system more than I do. However, I wonder whether a 2 miles system is cost efficient and worth the investment. Let's hope this particular system can be expanded so that it can get more paying passengers so that their fares can recapture the investment made to finance its creation. Thanks for sharing the video.

    Interesting how the streetcar resolutely maintains 15 miles per hour while the rest of traffic speeds around it…

  • @centredoorplugsthornton4112

    Other cities' streetcar lines like this are fairly short. Cincinnati, Milwaukee, Kansas City, Tacoma. DC was so problematic at least once there was talk of just not finishing it.

    Nice view of the wheel layout in the first segment, clearly showing the 4 axle double-articulated configuration.
    What are the stub tracks for at the border with the bridge in the last couple of minutes of the video?

    This part of DC looks a lot like parts of my hometown, Vancouver. We don't have any streetcars though.

      How is the "Vancouver Olympic Line" doing?

      @robertcartwright4374 Před rokem +1

      @@jamesparson The rail from it is still there, but they packed in the service I think shortly after the Olympics ended. A two-line streetcar system incorporating the VOL tracks has been proposed, but I don't know how likely it is to be built. RMTransit has a video covering the project; Reese seemed enthusiastic. Thanks for the interest!

      Yeah. But that line was supposed to be part of what was supposed to be a network of nine lines. That one in particular was supposed to go between Benning Road Station and Georgetown.

    Hundred Years ago there were about every city with streetcar, and Interurban routes, then they were gone, and now they are coming back, where was the logic then since then was better.

    This is nice, but sad. Just because a tram is on the street, does nor mean it refs to be slower than auto traffic. I live in Germany and the trams on streets run AT SPEEED with traffic. No need to give up speed for aesthetics

      Gentrification

    • @oscardaone
      @oscardaone Před rokem

      The residents didn’t want heavy rail construction to destroy the vegetation that existed on south side DC. Gentrification was probably a bonus for the scandalous real estate of DC.
