This particular one lasted about 4-months I think but it is very good about keeping the pressure in the bottle to keep the sofa fizzy and fresh....

The key to the Fizz Keepers is this: Pump them up, put the pop in the refrigerator (doesn't have to be Dr. Pepper lol) and then 4 or 5 days later check it to see if it still has fizz or was there a very slow leak of air......

Hey guys, physicist here. Carbon dioxide (much like heat) will always migrate from where there is a high concentration of CO2 to where there is little. In this case the C02 is trying to escape the liquid it has been aerated into and create equilibrium by dispersing the C02 equally amongst its 2 solvents (liquid soda and air). The air you are putting in will always absorb some of the CO2 regardless of its pressure.
However, just like all things under pressure, it's harder to squeeze more into something that is being compressed. Try shoving water into a sponge that's under and elephant. However, when that elephant gets off of it, there is still some water left in the sponge, no matter how hard it pressed. Same concept.
The higher the fluid level, the less air will absorb CO2 just because volume. Pressurizing it will help, but it still looses enough of its fizz to be noticeable to human taste. That being said, if you want to store a soda pop you drank last night for the next day and it's only half or less gone, this will HELP keep it fresh. But not to a noticeable degree after a day.

Yep sounds like best solution is keep the bottle as full of your drink as you can. So do this by simply squeezing all the air out of your plastic bottle that you can before resealing. Less ambient air for the co2 to dissolve into will keep your drink tastier longer.

What people seem to ignore is that a half emptied bottle of soda freshly capped is still under pressure --- 1 atmosphere. And it still goes flat to some degree over time. So if it can do that under 1 atmosphere it will come very close to doing the same thing under 1.2 or so atmospheres. Really, how much pressure do you think you can achieve with these?
So if you really want the remaining soda to stay as fizzy as it was when just opened, you need to pressurize it with CO2 above the liquid, not air.

There is a bit of a misunderstanding with products like these; that being that simply applying air pressure over a carbonated liquid will somehow reduce the amount of CO2 leaving the soda, preventing it from going flat. Not so. To show this, take two bottles of identical soda and pour out about 50% from each. Then just cap one and put the other under pressure (pump pressure using air) and then let them both sit for at least 24 hours. Then compare the carbonation of each, they will be virtually identical. To keep the CO2 from leaving the beverage you must pressurize the volume above the liquid with CO2, not just air, which is very low in CO2. The gas you wish to keep in the soda needs to be in equilibrium with the gas above the liquid --- equal amounts leaving with what dissolves back in. It seems counterintuitive at first, but it's basic physical chemistry. The pressure of the bottle merely capped will slowly build in pressure as some CO2 leaves the liquid and eventually achieves equilibrium, now at a lower carbonated state. The same will actually happen with the pumped bottle, as it too will increase in pressure as CO2 leaves the liquid, and by the same increase in pressure as the 'just-capped' bottle. The CO2 must go to equilibrium in both bottles which means both sodas lose the same amount of carbonation.

I have used the fizz keeper with the bulb on top of it the only problem I had with it was that the bulb dry rotted on it and leaked air after a while and wouldn't pump air pressure any more....

My favorite parts 1. 1:55 You can't deny these caps are 100% spill-proof when can isn't open, proof here on video, can upside down! 2. 8:22 Yes, there is still liquid in there...I checked to make sure lol

Did you check the fizz pumpers to see how the carbonation was after a couple of days?
Have you found anything for soda cans that will preserve the carbonation for a day or two?

the fizz keeper gadgets make the bottles quite tall. would like to see if they leaked when on their sides.
the pop bottle seal concerns me because the liquid comes in contact with the entire top of the metal can, thus allowing any contaminants into your drink

The SNAP CAPP is the best device that keeps your soda fresh and prevents spills. I've own 2 SNAP CAPPs for about 9 years now and they both still works. I use it every time I drink a can soda. I've used other soda can tops and they do not keep your soda fresh and fizzy. And I've used one that looks like the SNAP CAPP, but does not work like the real SNAP CAPP.

I guess the snap-cap has to be super tight to ensure it does not turn into a projectile if the pressure builds up inside from the carbonation release? But how difficult was it to take the cap off the can? It looked like it took a lot of pressure to get it on, how about taking it off again?

The Jokari Fizz-Keeper Pump & Pour is pretty awesome, I always take forever to finish a 2 liter and it goes flat before I'm done, I would definitely use that one.

Holy shit, that fizz keeper thing and the other syringe-like one can actually be used for smoking alcohol LA Beast style without having to use a cork and a bike pump with a needle hehe

It doesn't seem like you tested the soda fizz preserver gadget at all for what it's supposed to do. You screwed it on pumped it and said you liked it. Did your soda stay nicely carbonated after a day, a couple of days, a few, a week?

  • @Subfightr
    @Subfightr Před rokem

Your soda pump does not actually make a difference in the CO2 loss. Unfortunately:(
