I’ve taken a liking to that track more and more as the years go by. The first time i heard it, it was a skip for a while, but then again, the first time i heard it i was legit just getting into hip hop overall. As time went on, I learned more and more things about hip hop, artists, albums and what not, whether they were albums/artists I ended up personally listening to, or just albums/artists I heard people speak positively on.
The more I started to listen to the song I started to get the references in it, like referencing Eric B is President at the end of the first verse, then the immediate dropping of at least 5 references back to back to back at the start of verse 2, with the ones i caught by now (Cypress Hill how could i just kill a man, Criminal Minded album, Doggystyle album, the tracks Walk this way and Children’s Story) and a couple I didn’t catch (I know you got soul track, One Eye Charlie - Slick Rick, Suave House which apparently started 8ball and MJG, immediately followed by a chopped and screwed reference).
Track is now one of my favorites on the album.

💯 KD2 is a masterclass of the true masters of the craft. One of the greatest testaments to Nas's mastery are the features on this album: Any of them could've mailed in their verses and we would've been impressed. But none of them did - every artist Carpe diem'd the opportunity to push themselves to innovate, step out of their comfort flows into some hairpin time changes, adding those details. Like all truly great art, the storytelling transcends both medium and genre. It stands on its own.

my kid is 12 and his favorite rapper is nas! it happen organically, out of all the sounds he heard in the car it was nas that captured his imagination. thats how proven nas is at his craft.. little kids not even from the hood will all gravitate to nas cause they can understand him clearly. his tone and the way he effortlessly dictates his message is from the soul. it is the truth that is in us all.... even the songs like take it in blood, he gets it! he understands the message... that has been pretty incredible to witness as a grown man and life long nas fan it just proves even further how great nas is. the other artist is dmx and i would say it is for all the same reasons but the same elements just hit different.... quality is undeniable and for kids that young who haven't been tampered with musically will absolutely gravitate to whats real. and i don't have to worry about him feeling like he has to become something that he isn't... thats how real thoro breads raise their kids!
