For a moment, I thought you were going to choose that pink dvd player, 🤦♂️😂.
Tempting! Lol
Just bought myself a Gjallerhorn for some headroom to play loud at my desk with a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 12.0 speakers. Can't wait to hear it!
Awesome! That sounds like a great pairing!
This was the year I found out about external DACs. I went from streaming with the analog output from an Echo Dot to streaming from a Wiim Mini to SU-1 DAC and it's like going from 8 track to reel to reel in the 70s.
Agreed! I definitely learned a lot about external DACs this year as well. Thanks for sharing!
Agreed!
Great analogy! In my personal experience the Echo Dots have great Bluetooth, so you can use them as a source to connect it to a Hi-Fi system using Bluetooth; but the WiiM Mini + DAC is light-years better!!!
I hadn't heard about this little amp but after your review it does peak my interest.
It's a fun little guy!
Good Schiit, man! If I ever go with an MC cart and need an external phono preamp I'm sure the Mani will be at or near the top of my list!
Love it. Great to hear from you!
You are right on about power ratings and their relation to efficiency. I have personally found that the lower power amps (50 watts or less, typically) sound sweeter than the high powered ones. Moreover, I have a Marantz 2220 that I think sound better than my 1060, as well as some other low power NAD gear that just sounds great. Efficient speakers are awesome for playing with gear! Opens the door to a lot of stuff!
Awesome - thanks for watching and sharing! I bet that 2220 is awesome! I still need to get my 2270 repaired lol
I have a Marantz 2220b that my son gave me. I replaced the lamps and the vellum paper and bought a new face plate from Vintage Hi Fi Audio. It now looks as great as it sounds!
@@mikecampbell5856 Yup, i forgot to mention mine is the 2220b as well. I had my looked over and relamped but no vellum paper, so it looks a bit green, I dig it! It is a wonderful sounding amp and plays really nice with my JBL L100 Centurys, plenty of power for the bedroom I have them set up in. Cheers!
Yes! I find older late 60's early 70's low powered solid state receivers sound better than big powered beasts from years later. I think (guess) that maybe the designers were guys that also designed tube amps before and later worked on solid state and voiced them as such. But as the years went by the new designers only had solid state to voice things. I also think that way about modern tube amps, a lot of them sound solid state, so what's the point?
Cool product for sure.
My product of the year is Fusion5 razor. Happy new year🎉
so fresh and so clean!
I run the g’horns in mono in a bedroom system. So good.
Awesome!
Can the speaker amp be hooked up with head phone anp to give it more juice?
Hi there, do you recommend the Rekkr for the Klipsch RP-600M 1?
I’m going to get one for my home system (PC -> Sound Blaster ZX -> Schiit Magni+ & Rekkr -> Polk T15). Thanks for making great content! Happy New Year!!
Happy new year as well!
It is a cheaptFirst Watt and I love it
Thanks for a great 2023 and looking forward to more great videos in 2024. (No pressure) LOL
Happy new year! I will do my best lol
I want to get a Rekkr, or two. I also guess that in a few years when they stop making them the price for them will jump.
Ya, most people have no idea on how power woks. Is simple and interesting
The truth being told ... most people have no idea how *any* of this stuff works.
Rekkr is a neat lil basic amp, but for a bit more, the Gjallarhorn is a total came changer, more power, toroidal transformer and it mimics class A performance.
Agreed! I love the Gjallarhorn too!
Schiit? Is the real deal. Great company.
which speakers are you running off the Rekkr at the office? I've been searching for a list of speakers that would be compatible with one of these in both efficiency and budget
I just use my Emotiva B1 which aren’t really the best pairing given their efficiency but I can’t play anything very loud before the cubicles outside my office start to complain lol
I'm late to the conversation here, but for near-field desktop listening, do you think you'd be able to notice the difference between the Magni's built-in DAC vs if you were to add a Modi, or would that just be overkill?
I can't say but for sure as my Magni doesn't have a built in DAC. Thanks for watching!
@@ForeverAnalog Fair enough! Thanks for the response.
depecheMode?! I own a full set of their releases and have attended a few concerts as well! you must be a good boy🎧🙂🎧
I finally saw them live in November!
@@ForeverAnalog 💯🤜🤛
What speakers are you using on the desk? Im having trouble finding some small, sensitive desk speakers that will do well with the rekkr that wont break the bank.
Great question - I currently have them connected to Emotiva B1+ speakers, which to be honest, aren't that friendly with sensitivity - I think they are 86db? I can't blast music in my office so the Rekkr is doing okay but I could probably get even better results with higher efficiency desktop speakers!
Do a search for ... "Micca MB42" ... nice speakers, small but good sound, very efficient.
@@Douglas_Blake_579Thanks for the recommendation, they look very promising! The mb42x will definitely go on my short list of options for desk work speakers with the rekkr.
On a desk I'd I wouldn't even bother with a seperate amp + speaker setup, just buy powered speakers.
Best bang for buck imo are the Edifier MR4s
@@crazyprayingmantis5596
He already has the amplifier and wants to use it.
The old powerful amplifier receiver wars remind me of the muscle car era, i.e., no substitute for cubic inches.
Good for you! Aaron!
You are absolutely correct about the "power wars".
People are hooking 200 watt amps up onto 4 inch speakers on their desktops.
They're chasing the 600 watt dream for lollipop speakers in their listening rooms.
Then of course the dual monoblock craze for their towers.
It's effing ridiculous!
Most listening, especially in a shared room, is done at 5 watts or less. Even with a 10db overhead that's still only 50 watts on short peaks. I figure most people would be happy as clams with 50 watts per channel... the good old A07 or TB10d with a 32 volt supply does that very nicely as do a whole raft load of affordable class AB amplifiers.
The only good news about that is the Class-D amps are cheap as chips so at least they aren't dumping $10,000 to drive a pair of 6 inch speakers!
And don't even get me started on fancy cables and chip-flipping!
All the best for the new year my friend.
Thank you for the kind words and happy new year to you as well!
Really depends on your speakers . I thought I had arrived when I got 120 wpc from my new Arcam a39.
Very disappointing!!! My old Ruarks ( Acoustic Templar 2) are quoted at 88db
sensitivity. My new Neat Motive SX1 are 86 db ( but are nearer 82)
The Arcam couldn't drive any of them particularly well ( suspect they are "creative" about 120 wpc)
Treated myself to a class D power amp. Absolutely glorious at last there is real presence and I can go loud as I want with zero strain.
We will agree to differ but the injection of total.power made my turntable, my cd, player,my mini disc player and even my DAC all sound like they have been upgraded.
Those who sneer at power have probably never heard what it can truly do for their system
@@sbwlearning1372
Done?
I don't sneer at power... I've got about 175 watts per channel available here ... My point is that I only use about 10 of the 175 ... But then, I'm also not trying to make my ears bleed. Never did like loud music.
@@Douglas_Blake_579 Didn't start anything to be "done". Nowhere did I accuse you of sneering but stated "those who sneer" of which there are thousands on the internet. They usually advocate ultra high sensitivity speakers which severely limits your choice of speakers.
I am not trying to make my ears bleed that would be extremely silly as I wish to enjoy music until I die and therefore am judicious in my use of the power I have available.
Despite you being triggered by my statement I still believe you must really hear highly powerful amps drive your speakers especially at low levels to hear the increase in clarity and palpability of the music.
Glad you're happy listening to music at very low levels, for a lot of us that love music sometimes we need more volume and that is where depending on your speakers most average amplifiers( 20 to 100 watts ) begin to strain and distort and spoil the experience and have you reaching to turn the sound down.
@@sbwlearning1372
Not triggered ... so lose that.
My pioneer towers run about 86db sensitivity... hooked to my modified TB10d amp I can easily hit 100 db in this room, crystal clear. But, as I said I seldom get over 10 watts in normal 70 to 75db listening. (And yes I do have a sound pressure meter to confirm all that.)
Anyway, I can see you're rather prone to exaggeration when reading, so lets just call it a day.
Bye now.
First time viewer and first time I've heard of this product. Enjoyed the video but if that is a desktop amplifier, then the typical desktop speakers may be an issue since they are typically not efficient. Intriguing though.
Welcome and thanks for watching!
. I wish reviewers would hold the product still. Having it being waved around in the air gets tough on my eyeballs trying to see it.

Of course FA. You put it on the spare stick. The blue one I think. Well, check the couch cushions. Maybe it's there.

I didn't try the Rekkr, but I did like the Gjallarhorn. Ended up replacing it with a Vidar, though.
Gotta sell the Gj now.
Nice, I've had my eye on Vidar for years now, lol
@@ForeverAnalog you won't be disappointed. Although I noticed that they've got the Aegir in their "last call" section now, so I suspect there will be an Aegir 2 soon. Might want to wait for that...
@@zounds13 What speakers did you drive with the Gjallarhorn and now the Vidar?
@@perlman7376 RSL CG5s (with a Speedwoofer 10S MkII).
The Gjallarhorn drove them fine, I just really wanted a Vidar.
Did you sell it yet?
Has an older guy who just loves music.. I've never been one looking for that 1000000w per channel amp...I would rather listen to quality of sound . all day long .. Great video by the way , and keep em coming .
Couldn't agree more! Thank you!
T-URD CD Transport….sorry I couldn’t help it 😂
lol - very true!
Faith No More is one of my favorites.
I just watched a VHS compilation of their music videos and it was HIGHLY entertaining!
One of the best albums ever. It was a real game changer.
Skip to 5 min for the actual item.
Do you ever listen to music or do you listen to the equipment?
Music always comes first.
@@ForeverAnalog
Every ..... Single .... Time.... 😁
it can't be both?
@@kingdip91
Think about it ... Once you get your system set up and working, there's nothing to do. Just relax and enjoy the music. If there's a problem your system will tell you.
I think it was the guy who started Monster cable that said "I seem to have found the solution to a problem nobody has."
Seriously ... don't look for problems you don't have.
@Douglas_Blake_579 why do you think there has to be a problem with a system to want a different flavor now and again?
I can want a detailed listen in 2 channel and enjoy the stereo imaging AND sometimes I can turn on the whole home theater and enjoy atmos artifacts move around the room in real time AND sometimes I can want to really focus and listen for details on headphones AND I can sometimes just want to bop around in the car and jam out.
enjoying all the different ways you can listen to music through different tools means you are listening to the music AND appreciating the differences in your gear.
either or thinking is dumb, I'm sorry to be so blunt.
Please stop saying..."to be honest with you"
Okie dokie
Class D sucks. Just say no.
Thank you for your feedback, however, I can't generalize in the same manner as I think a lot of these class D amps are a great way to get newcomers into the hifi hobby for a great price and let them grow their system down the road. I just thought it was fun that another company did the exact opposite of their competitors by offering a class A/B 2 watt amp instead!
Class D isn't only small cheap chi fi
Go listen to Bel Canto and say Class D sucks.
