I don't know why I love these niche type of channels. Shawn Woods, LockPickingLawyer, etc. I've never had a rat problem nor cared about locks in my life yet I find them so interesting.

You are more talented than me. He has more talent in his thumb nail than I have in my being. I'd only make sawdust and probably not even do that correctly. He is a rare talent
A trick for splitting a wood carving: Start with two pieces of wood, and glue them together with newspaper in between them. Carve the object, with the newspaper at the split point, then use a chisel to split it.
The newspaper will hold the wood block together well while you are sawing/carving the wood, but breaks apart easily when put under tension.
I learned this trick by watching Myfordboy making molds for metal casting.
Shawn: “I need to make sure I cut this elephant perfectly”

The trap might work better if you secure it to a heavy piece of wood or metal to make a base, then place a tunnel at the front to funnel the mouse into position.

Skip the jaws instead attach a downward facing barbed spike on the trunk. That way the mouse is impaled when the trunk comes down. The barbs require less force when stabbing but more force when removing so escape is near impossible
As an elephant wood carving that's really quite impressive; as mousetrap, maybe not so much. 🤣

Huh, looking st the patent shown, i didn't see where is showed the bit on the trunk having jaws, just mearly thought it was a spike or simple nail that stabbed down into a mouse that was getting the bait from the front, which feels a little more effective.

It's fascinating to me the Victorian logic of making super sharp dangerous rat traps that look like children's toys. That was a GREAT idea, lol.
i did not know 1883 was victorian era.
It's named for the reign of Queen Victoria, June 20, 1837 - January 22, 1901. So yes, that's during the Victorian Era.

You need a Japanese pull saw. It's the one tool I can't live without. It would've sawed that in half no problem and the kerf is very small.

I have been watching you for so long . Love how you take a hobby and take something and tur it in to something beautiful.
You're going to have to discover a lot more potential energy in your setting stress-zones, and another thing, why not make a trunk that's actually curled around and holding like a sharp little fork. a pickle/olive fork... you know, like for charcuterie purposes. Or better yet, a fondue fork?
*side note, people always get po'd when they find someone's swiped one of their 6 fondue forks...

I think if the truck was made out of metal and the truck would hit the mouse like a snap trap. And the bait would be in the tusk maybe? Anyways it came out really well and it’s a pice of art. It may not work but it looks really cool.
Now just carve a cute little pine mouse shuffling off this mortal coil in the grasp of the elephant trunk, and then put the whole sculpture under glass!

I don't believe that kind of mousetrap was actually made, but it is very impressive of him to attempt to create the 1800s elephant trap. I wonder how this will go when it does get used.
Not being biased as a fan of Shawn’s channel, but the music on most CZcams build montages is usually atrocious. This was lovely.
