Chug puppy training progress

- Mugwort is a very smart, very small chihuahua pug mix, also called a chug. Since both breeds are known for being strong willed I decided to start training him right away. Watch his progress from 7 weeks to 13 weeks old!
Ive got a chug who was also about 7 weeks when we got him. He's 5.5 years now and by far the best dog I've ever had.

My family just lost our precious little angel yesterday and I just miss her so much. We'd only had her for no more than a year and a half, but in that short time, she filled our hearts with love and laughter. It just won't be the same without her around the house anymore. But I know that if she could see us right now, she'd give us face kisses so we'd stop crying. I love you so much, Allie 💕💕 we'll miss you forever and always 😥😥 fly high baby girl 🕊️☮️🙏
I have one my self.. hints the picture she is everything I ever wanted in a dog. Smart, playful, and sweet. She is so in tune with me she knows when I'm upset and is right their to comfort me. I love my chug Foxy so much. Best gift my mother ever got me

I got a chug and she has Chihuahua looks and shes so cute I’m such a happy Mom/Dad
When they are food oriented it makes it SO MUCH easier!

He is a younger version of my Angie. She is about 5-6 years old (not sure). I love her so much that she is very spoiled. She insists on going for walks at least twice a day. If I put on my hat and coat, she gets excited and runs around, looking at the front door. Don't know how I would cope without her as my wife left me (she got a better offer from the Lord). Live long and prosper.
PS. I do not "own" Angie. I am her guardian.

Mugwort is very intelligent and tries to lean on his cuteness to get what he wants. I think it's challenging to know when to stop treating a small breed puppy like a baby and start treating them like a member of the pack and a dog. Be sure to work with her a couple times a day, and stay consistent with your cues and habits!! Read up on puppy training. Also, one of the best things I did with Mugwort was teach him "go potty".... Every time he pee'd or poo'd in the beginning, I said "go potty" and praised him. Now he will go on command when I take him outside, and it makes traveling and dealing with poor weather a breeze.
@@leilanigalvan4898 yes we have a bigger dog too & so I'm in the UK so we have been saying toilet "willow go toilet" & lots of fuss when she does a wee or poo when we did this with our other dog it worked so well. My dad's treated his chihuahua /Jack Russel like a baby & he's a monkey barks a lot wants to be picked up all the time & won't walk on a lead etc or leash I think you call it in America. We definately have mugwart as an inspiration for willow. xXx

Don't forget to socialize her. They can be scared of lots of things. Good luck. And always treat your dog like a dog. That's what it's gonna be quick. Be tough and don't pick the dog up too much.

I hopefully am too! Just put in my application and it took 45 minutes which is probably a good thing bc the rescue is making sure they go to a good home. I had to describe my day, give 5 references, describe what’s acceptable and unacceptable behavior... it was long! Hope I get approved!

7 weeks is a bit young for a puppy to be separated from its mother
I actually got him at 6 weeks and you are right, it was much much too young. It would have been much healthier for him if they had waited until he was around 10 weeks. However, he made it okay. I wouldn’t do it again.
Are chugs good with cats?
What a great question! I raised Mugwort with my cat, and he loves her. When he was 1-3 lbs she really liked him and they would gently roughhouse play. However, when he was teething his rough housing was much too rough for her, and I regret letting them play that way when he was smaller. Now that he’s full grown they have a truce, and he’s great with her, but she doesn’t much like him. But all cats and all dogs are different. I am glad that because of her presence in his early life he has no interest in chasing cats.
Csn I ask if chugs are yappy? I know everyone is different but just want to get a rough idea of there nature
They’re all different, like you said! I wouldn’t describe Mugwort as yappy at all, but he takes his duties as an alert dog pretty seriously. He barks when he knows or thinks there’s a visitor or intruder, but stops once I’ve made it clear that I know.
If he knows the person, he won’t bark. I’d call him a good alarm dog! There have been nights when a neighbor is having a party or something, and Mugwort is “alerting” me several times in an evening 😅 but that’s because he’s young still, and still learning what’s a potential threat and what’s not. I don’t foresee him doing that sort of thing forever.
How much did he way at the start of the video? And how much does he weigh now
He was 1 lb when I adopted him, and he’s about 7 or 8 lbs now.
