  • Hi Friends and CZcams family,
    In this video we are revisiting my thrift haul and makeover videos. I am combining videos of making over second hand thrifted items using the glue and paint technique for that amazing crackle effect all in one video. This will allow for easier access to the technique.

    I liked the crackle on the 1stone before you added more paint. I absolutely love the red, black and white crackled bird house. It's my faviorite !
    I keep my pretty bird houses indoors as I don't want bird poop all over them. If I make rustic not painted ones they could be outside, but not near my deck or patio for the same reason. Bird poop is messy and sricks hard to any surface it lands on.

    So glad you used Dollar Tree glue, lol! I didnt have enough Elmers school glue and I didnt want to use wood glue bc it has that yellow tinge to it, lol, but I had a few half full bottles of the Jolt DT glue from when my son would bring home his supplies from school that wasnt all used, lol! I dont even want to talk about how many glue sticks I have on hand, lol, sticks for DAYSSSS bc of course you cant just buy a pack of 1 or 2, lol!
    Thanks for uploading this one, everyone else uses Elmers & I couldnt watch ANOTHER video about crackle hoping someone MENTIONS if they tried the DT glue & how it came out, lol!

    Hi Yvonne ............. just trying to stay warm. I'm in Manitoba Canada and we've got ANOTHER snow storm coming at us from the south west (Colorado).. It could be june before we see any green grass. Definitely no leaves of the trees. Now onto something more fun. I've been flipping through Pinterest and noticed that a pinterest user was making "mushrooms" from bowls and vases. One person sprayed painted the tops of the shrooms with red spray paint. How much luck am I going to have with this. I'm not even going to try till I get the nod from you. haahaa I trust you!!

  • @Ann-co9bb
    @Ann-co9bb Před 2 měsíci

    The hairspray actually does a different crackle look like with glue if you use a little bit you'll have small cracking if you make it thick and a lot the opposite you will have to play with your thickness and how you spread it. You know what I mean

  • @benniececiliamattox7426

    I enjoyed seeing the recap! I have tried the glue-crackle with white chalk paint and my white paint turned creamy. I tried it with latex paint and it worked fine....go figure! I am working on an antique vanity and discovered it has something like shellac on it. I started sanding an scraping but it's impossible to remove all that shellac from the curves and crevices. Is there a way I can seal this piece or do something to prevent my paint from flaking off? You and Chris are wizards at making over old furniture so I thought you might have a tip for me. Thanks!

    We have hair spray at our dollar stores

  • @Ann-co9bb
    @Ann-co9bb Před 2 měsíci

    Girl you've got to try the hairspray. And don't be using your good stuff, go to the DG or the dollar store. That's just common sense. 😅 The hairspray does a different look. It's good on everything but I like to use it on smalls. It does the most delicate fine crackling unless you just keep the nozzle pressed. lol Like with glue you don't have to spread the whole piece. if you just want randon crackling or to make it look like it's just started aging don't spread it on the whole piece just do random corners a few spots in the middle. Also when using the glue you can use very thin coating and then in different spots do it thicker and you will have wider longer crackling to fine areas. Also play with your timing on your cover color. Of course that will have to do with if you're using spray paint or paint on paint. But if you cover it while it's still wet to tacky there's different crackling. You're just going to have to play with it girl.😂 Oh yeah and if you let it dry on it's on it does such a better job. The heat is actually making it back wet and why it made those long white gaps on your piece was because it's trying to run and has nowhere to go. You can use the heat gun but hold it far away and not a lot you don't want to do a complete drying with it especially if you're wanting a fine to medium crackling. When you try the hairspray on your smiles your going to be hooked.
