Marko is Finnish but he lived for several years in England and learned the pronunciation there. That's why his English is good. Few Finnish artists can get rid of the typical Finnish accent, or they opt for the more common -Ish American accent.

You should check out the original version of Lift- totally different song! And, Marko is Finnish, as others have said. I think you can hear the British influence in his English better when he's just talking, but he has what I tend to refer to as a 'nowhere accent'. Without context, you can hear it and have no clue about where he's from.

The English lessons in Finnish schools do tend to lean more on British English than American English, but of course that doesn't necessarily mean that is where your speech habits come from. As a kid I always listened to different forms of media (music, movies, tv) that primarily featured American English, so that is what stuck with me, not the British English they taught at school.

Jealous Gods and Rebirth, I am sure you will love those too 😍 and yes please do the entire ATS, you won't regret it. Such a magical experience. Poets of the Fall are Finnish, and Marko speaks many languages. I lost track, but Finnish, obviously, English, French for sure... (his French is rather good even when we exchanged a few words in French) and I think he speaks a couple more languages. Thank you for the video, I was impatiently waiting 🤩 looking forward to the next one.

So nice to see you come back to the Poets again - I love watching people fall in love with Marko's voice. He makes it very easy for you!
All the Alexander Theatre Sessions are great but I think that apart from them you will also enjoy "Given and Denied", "No End, No Beginning", "Sleep", "Cradled in Love" and "The Ballad of Jeremiah Peacekeeper" (all of these are ballads in some way or another) and if you want something a bit heavier, try "Balance Slays the Demon" from their alter ego band "Old Gods of Asgard" (a name they use when they appear in some video games they provide the music for).
But quite frankly, you cannot choose wrong with the Poets. They cover most genres and there's something there for everyone, no matter what song you pick.
    See you next time!

Yes they are all Finnish, and I believe I read somewhere that Marko (the singer) spent a chunk of time in London, so that's probably influenced his choice of words and accent.

The singer Marko is Finnish like everyone else in the band but if I remember correctly he lived in UK for some years in his youth and he considers English his second language, that's how proficient he is in it.
Oh, and if I may suggest, when you're done with the Alexander Theatre sessions, or maybe even before that, you should try listening Love Will Come To You or Dancing On Broken Glass.
Fools' Paradise and Standstill are also my favorites.

The Alexander sessions album gave the songs new life...

I would highly suggest checking out the original PotF Lift, the Alexander Theatre version is great but i feel that it lacks the punch of the electric guitar especially going into chorus that original has. For me it brought whole different feeling and drive to the song.

They are all Finns, but the singer is almost half-English when it comes to languages. Her mother had lived in England and passed those skills forward.
Very few native Finnish people can sing English _that_ smooth because Finnish just has certain roughness to it.

Marko’s Finnish, but he’s bilingual. His mother was thoughtful enough to gift him with a second native language, hence the beautifully poetic English lyrics. All of the guys in the band are involved in the songwriting, but the lyrics are written by him. He speaks with an American accent, not a British one. Poets have also written lyrics for other Finnish artists (just as beautiful as the English ones). Marko performed one song written for Finnish singer Johanna Kurkela a few times live on tour in 2012. Unfortunately, no official recording or video exists. However, there’s a decent quality fanmade video on YT, if you’re interested in hearing him sing in Finnish (and speak in English): czcams.com/video/UmYHNgPDqVc/video.htmlfeature=shared
