Dude, you’re a great teacher. This is a wealth of information for folks that have never taught young kids. Good job 👍
Thank you for this!!
Dear teacher Ray, thanks so much for the great guidance you give during your CZcams videos. Thanks to you I passed my Palfish demo class the first time round.
Love that!
Thank you so much for this. It’s so nice to hear that you had the same concerns I have.. I like that you come off as a real person and not made of bubble gum like some of the other videos I’ve seen. This helped a lot 👍
So glad I could help!
Awesome, Raychel. I truly enjoyed your genuine style and the straight forward info. Thanks a bunch!
Thank you ! You’ve been the best help out of all I’ve watched I have interview tomorrow and I was so confused about what to do about props and all this
Awesome. Let me know how it goes!
NICK & RAYCHEL yes It was so fun, I went to the dollar store and made my cardboard prop background and my 5 year old helped me and she wants to play with all my props (of course )😍.
I don’t understand how the pay scale works ...
@@MyMyMy69 Hello , are you still teaching on palfish?
Gee, I wish I saw this before my exam. The app told me nothing about any of this. I even messaged them for a heads up on what they expected and heard nothing. The “Interview Tips” page never loaded, it would just spin and spin and spin. And the props I assumed were the in app props, which I now assume it absolutely would never be. Best part, if you fail you get know specification as to why. They just they want people who speak the language, know the app, and have a certification.

Hi Mary, thats awesome! Hopefully you’re staying healthy and safe.
We lived in Phnom Penh for a year - we did lots of exploring. Where did you live!?
@@nickandraychel I liked Phnom Penh too. I lived in Siem Reap and for a month at Otres Beach which I've now heard is blighted with casinos and over-tourism - it was a true sanctuary for a while. About Palfish, it seems that's the only platform where you can teach English online without a 4 year college degree as if you need it - not. Has that been the best one for you to teach on?
Great video.. answered a lot of the questions I had. But I was also wondering about the freetalk on Palfish. how does that work as far as lessons, pay and is there a demo for that as well?

@@nickandraychel Rejected...Twice!
Cleopatra Sarantakos hi! I’m a college student and I’m looking to apply soon. I’ve heard that if you were rejected you couldn’t reapply. Has that changed since you were able to do the interview twice? Or was there a way to get around it? I’m just a little nervous and hesitant that I’d ruin my chances
Really useful video. Thanks
Thank you for all the information!

Thanks for making this video! Is the demo recorded, or do you have to schedule it?
Laura Rosenfeld You schedule it & do it as a live recording!
Your awesome and pretty ..Great video useful for palfish
Thank you!
Hi!!! Can you do a video on how to do lives once you’re hired please and thank you 😊
Where do you get your props and phone stand, straps, for such a cheap price? Can we access the slides and lesson plan before our interview, not just the day where they are not watching live?
I got the velcro strap from the dollar store, and my phone case has a convenient hole in it for me to put it through. My phone stand is just a piece of wood on a box. You could buy a pop socket for the back of your phone case and stand your phone up anywhere. I've seen pop sockets on Amazon for about $10. I get my props from thrift stores or the Dollar Store. You can access the slides before your interview. Once you schedule the appointment, you can go in and out of the classroom as you please. I practiced many times before my interview. It doesn't start recording til that timer hits 0.
Great straight to the point...how long has it taken you to make a full time wage from starting this? Is it hard to get used to palfish or do you get used to it?
In my experience, new teachers on the app get a lot of trials at first - I made my monthly salary goal within the first month I was on PalFish just from doing trials. If you're friendly, organized, and energetic, you can turn a lot of these students into regulars. I had a regular student base by the second month I was on PalFish. The app definitely takes some getting used to, but after a week, everything felt familiar. Especially because at the beginning, you do a lot of the same trials, so the repetition helps.
I have 3 Chinese adopted daughters. Do you think this is something I should bring up or something I should avoid?
can you use a computer to do lessons
Nice video.....I see a totoro 😄
😁
Just applied with your referral code!
That’s awesome! Good luck!
If I’m just interested in the freetalk option and teaching adults only does the interview still entail all these things?
Thank you , that was helpful... i think I know where i went wrong... do you have to use props in the actual demo or can i use filters instead?
I would suggest using props AND filters
@@nickandraychel okay thank you very much 🙏🙏🙏
Great video! I have one question: Can you practice on the Palfish app before submitting your 25-minute mock teaching video?
Yes, you can enter the classroom as many times as you'd like beforehand!
I set my interview on Monday. Can i click
" the enter classroom" to practice the interview demo??
Yes, as many times as you want. It doesn't start recording until your interview time.
Haha, I was kinda wondering the same thing.... but I figured it didn’t matter until the interview. Good question.
@@nickandraychel wow thank you. May i ask what are the quiz all about? Right after an interview. And how many items it is? :) Is it easy to pass?
Hi Rachel, when there is writing at the bottom of slide saying what t must do. Do I just tell them that we will be seeing a monkey?
Hi were is the palfish for adults?
I recently applied for Pal 🐟after watching a girl on CZcams say wonderful things & how to use her referral code & she will help you by coaching you & get back to you within 24-48 hrs. It's been a week, and I haven't heard from her. I posted my question on facebook, and I haven't had an answer but see other's get answered. So now I'm thinking if I should even bother with the interview. Now I'm looking into other companies. I'm also watching CZcams videos for advice and tips. Thank you for your suggestions. Have you tried the Freetalk? If so, do you have a curriculum, or you could talk about anything? Can I just click Start tutoring without scheduling anything for Free Talk and get paid? Lastly, what rate pay do you suggest for beginners?
Marichela Hi! Yes you can work on free talk whenever you want, you don’t need to pass an interview. You will be paid by the minute and there is no curriculum, you can talk about anything you’d like. You can google conversational ESL topics for ideas. It’s very, very difficult to make a good amount of money on freetalk. If you’re looking for a solid side hustle, I would really recommend the official kids course. I would highly suggest going through with the interview. It’s up to you if you want to remove her referral code if she hasn’t been at all helpful. My rate is at 1.8 on free talk but I rarely tutor on there. Which Facebook group are you in? I recommend this one facebook.com/groups/610205209312051/?ref=share
@@nickandraychel You're fantastic! I just joined the facebook link you provided., and was approved. I was in a facebook group which Palfish recommended to me by e-mail. It seemed for new teachers. After reading your advice, I'm going to interview, let's see how it goes. I'm so new to all this. I worked for corporate, and got burned out, took time off, but I'm hesitant to go back to corporate. I also create content for CZcams. I started looking for ways to work from home. And that is how I fell into all these teaching opportunities. ( Of course, I have somewhat experience) Thank you so much for answering my questions! I have binged watch your traveling videos.
It’s given me a lot of freedom to explore where I want to live and what I want to do. No job is perfect but I’m pretty grateful for PalFish. You can dm me anytime on Instagram or email notluxe@gmail.com if you have any more questions through the interview process. It sounds like it may be right for you. Remember to have a lot of energy and give it your all. Good luck!
@@nickandraychel Hello! How can I start working on free talk without doing the interview? I downloaded the app and filled in my personal information but I can't quite understand the app yet. Thank you!
Do I have to have a degree or certificate of teaching if I apply for Palfish?
Soooo useful! My interview is tomorrow, thanks sooooo much!
Update: I got the job!!!!! Thank you so much again!!!
So happy to hear, Mike! Congrats and happy PalFishing!!!
hi did you get a chance to practice the slides/lesson interview?
If you failed with Palfish onetime, can you go again?
Hi! I loved your video. It was so informative and am thinking of applying. I heard that a passport is needed but mine is expired. Would it still work? Also, are there any free valid tefl courses that you would recommend?
Hmm - it might be fine. If not, you can use a birth certificate. When you search 'free TEFL course' on Google - the first one provides the cert # (I think - you can email them to confirm this).
Hey great video, nice job! I'm an Aussie in Cambodia (your old home). Ive got 7 yrs experience teaching and a CELTA and this looks really overwhelming to me. Seems more like a training course than an 'interview'. Am I missing something? (Genuine question not trying to be annoying).
All good! Yes, they call it an 'interview' but it's really just a teaching demo. There i no one on the other side of the screen, they just watch your recording after. Hope this clarified things a bit!
Hey Rachel. I have a quick question, ones you book the interview, can you see in the cellphone the lesson you have to do for practice?
Yes!
Ok, now I understand, thank you a lot.
What does your shirt say? I really like the font. Where did you get it?
It says 'leading the pack' it's from a skate shop called 'the truth' in Chilliwack BC from yeaaaars ago, I sadly don't think they have it anymore!
Hi! Thanks for the great video!
I'm in the process of applying to Palfish right now, I plan to do the Kids Course mainly, but maybe try to supplement with the FreeTalk as well. I've gotten past the verification process and just need to schedule my demo. I live abroad and teach ESL at a brick-and-mortar school, so just want to use Palfish as supplementary income.
I was just wondering if you knew whether you're allowed to take time off without losing your spot on the Kids Course. I'll be taking a five to six week trip in a few months to go see my family (I don't get to see them very often so I'd like to make the trip mostly be free of work or business if I can help it), and I don't know if I'll be able to teach the minimum seven classes during peak hours consistently while I'm traveling.
Would you recommend just waiting to do the demo until I finish my trip, and maybe try the Freetalk in the meantime, or should I do the demo now and start teaching but possibly have a few weeks where I might not meet the minimum requirements?
Hope that makes sense! I'm also going to send a message to the help team, but thought I'd ask someone who has experienced at palfish as well. Thanks so much for any help!
Hi! PalFish OKC teachers can take time off by just messaging the admins and letting them know. That said, 5-6 weeks is a long trip (lucky you, that's lovely!) so it may be difficult to retain regular students - especially at the beginning - and it may hurt your bookings for when you come back. Personally, I would wait until after your trip to do the demo, especially since you have experience teaching ESL, the team will probably want to send you a lot of trials when you first get accepted and you'll likely build a regular student base pretty quickly. Having a consistent schedule (no matter what that looks like for you) will really help you establish your regular group on PF. It's worth the wait, I think!
Do you have to do lessons over the phone or is it possible to do the lessons on a laptop?
PalFish is all on your phone
I can't find the teacher's guide for the interview lesson.
For some reason I cannot find the pal fish application
I have my interview booked and when i go through the demo slides I can seem to get the AP to work, i click on it but it doesnt put it in my video. Any ideas as to why not?
I used your link to sign up but you are not the inviter that shows up on my profile. How do I fix that so you get the credit if I get hired?
Hi, your video was very informative - but there is a major issue. I cannot find the place to 'enter the class' and practice beforehand with the slides!?! My screen just has at top 'passed the verification. Please click here to book your interview' I have not booked it because I wanted to practice - but do not see anyplace to do the practice. Not too happy that there is absolutely no direction on where to find these things. The only options I have at the bottom (which do not have the classroom practice/slides) are: Appointments, After class, schedule, students, training, application, lessons, moments, live, achievements, following, live hall.....that's all that I can choose from. Need some help with this, thanks!
Highway 2 Haven if you “book your interview” you will have an option to book it a few days from now, even next week or the week after. After you book it, it will come up in your appointments. Then you can enter the classroom as many times as you please to practice before your interview. The practice time is not watched or recorded. I hope this helps!
How necessary is the teaching background/props ? For someone who travels a lot and not much room in luggage for extras..
The props are definitely necessary as the admins will check in to make sure that you’re using them during trials. It’s also pretty necessary to have some sort of background - definitely for the interview and maybe to attract more students in the future. I travel a lot too. At one point, I just bought a “kids world map tapestry” off of amazon... it was super lightweight, rolled up small and did the trick. Hope this helps!
Hey thanks SO much for this! Just a quick one, I know it´s supposed to be 25m but if I end up going over time a bit, is that ok? Or will it cut me off?
As far as I understand, going over by a couple of minutes is not the end of the word. In real PalFish classes, it's common to go over 25 mins. That said, try to keep it as close to 25 as you can during the interview. :)
About how many clients are you getting a week?
Thanks for making this video. I am currently applying for Palfish, but I'm worried about having to send a foto of my passport. Is it true that I can use my license instead?
You used to be able to, but now they need something to prove citizenship. That last I heard, you can upload a photo of your birth certificate accompanied by your driver's license. Not sure if that makes it easier for you! I just uploaded my passport.
I was reading native South African speakers can also do classes is this true? thanks so much for the videos
Unfortunately, South African citizens aren't on the approved list of PalFish teachers. I don't know why!
Hey! I’ve done everything up until the interview. How do I schedule it? Also my schedule is very scattered due to college classes and nannying... how can I continue to schedule classes without a consistent availability? Or do I need to make it the same each week?
I don’t have a teaching background, does this matter?
No you can still apply and be successful on PalFish without a teaching background
Thanks so much! You did great explaining the process. I was clueless as my interview is in 3 days. I didn't understand what they meant about teaching the kids a circle on courseware and I'm so glad you let us know that you can go into the course beforehand! Think I'll practice with my 2 year old beforehand a few times.
Also, is it okay if you don't have props? I have tons of stuffed animals but no monkey or dog Haha
You are so welcome. Get it!! You'll do a great job.
I'm trying to figure out how to do the Free talk...is there a button on the app specifically for Free Talk?
I'm not too interested in the Kids Course right now.
Yes as soon as you download the app, you can make a profile - you don't have to put in an application for the freetalk. Whenever you press "start tutoring" on the main page, anyone can call you! I'd still suggest posting moments and photos and having an intriguing profile, as the freetalk students may look at that before calling you.
Can we teach Cambodian children online? I love Cambodians.
Me too but sadly these apps aren’t open to Khmer students - maybe Cambly
How do they verify the tefl? I have a fake one
If you are fluent, is using chinse in the lessons looked down upon or recommended?
It depends who you talk to. Some parents may think it’s an advantage and some parents may request that you don’t use it. I would put it in your bio and offer it to the parents when you start booking students.
do we need to finish all the materials in 1 class?
Yes, all of these slides are for one 25 minute class. The interview should be finished in a timeframe between 15-25 minutes.
@@nickandraychel is there a timeframe for each slides?
sorry I just got hired but I'm not yet starting to teach I'm still in the dark where to start
@@iamgeminay There is no timeframe for each of the slides, you just need to finish the whole lesson within 25 minutes! Once you gain some more experience on the app, you'll really get a feel of which slides take longer than others, etc. Sometimes you'll get 17 slides for a class, sometimes you'll get 26. No matter what, your classes should be 25 mins or more once you're accepted to the OKC!
