And then they come back with a whole lotta nonsense that don't need to be changed out and even when they charge you an arm and a leg, they still don't replace the part you asked em to right, still leaking oil. Man, dealerships are a scam. Never going back.
@josephdickinson5183 no, they don't--I was being facetious. I work with technicians daily, some make wild ass guesses, sure, but if you've got good techs you stand behind, they're telling you that you need something done for a reason.
This is what people who aren’t mechanics think. ALWAYS confirm diagnosis, for everyone’s sake, people who think they know what they are talking about will send you on a wild goose chase.
I have literally done nothing to my car besides wrap it and put new headlights in and the guys at the tire shop lost their shit seeing my door handle I royally screwed up wrapping my car. They said they could fix it, I said no thanks, it still works 😂
I have a surly old mechanic thats been servicing the family for 4 generations now. He taught me nearly all of what i know in general automotive standards. When he hears a call from me, he already knows its going to be something i couldn’t fix. So i get to watch him do it like its nothing and have him tell me how stupid i am.
I mean to be fair my truck has a misfire, but if it starts when he starts to drive it it's 100% not a misfire, it will vibrate no matter what when the car starts, not just when he drives it, that usually more like lifters suspension and transmission issues.
That’s why I like my mechanic shop, I took my car in for a set of tires and an alignment literally just yesterday and while they were working on it the manager told me that my tie rod was fucked and they wanted to know if I wanted to swap it. I told them go for it. Manager comes back not 10 minutes later and told me that the tie rod wasn’t actually fucked, it just needed to be re-bolted in, and it was actually almost unbolted and only had about 2 threads on. Didn’t pay a penny for it
Reminds the time I got into a 20-minute arguing match with a mechanic because he didn't believe me that I could hear my alternator whining, aka going out. He was headstrong that he needed his fancy tool........the apology was the best because I didn't have to pay labor 😂
Sad part is after the driveway mechanic my car doesn't magically have more issues the demand i use a shop but every time i take it to a shop for work oh there definitely more wrong about a week after
In highschool I job shadowed a Harley Davidson mechanic and he introduced me the term “Customerization”. One of the customers zip tied the exhaust pipe to the frame of the bike. The whole thing was held together by hopes and dreams.
Nah honestly saying the phrase "i did all the work myself" in my experience will drive away alot of mechanics cause they dont wanna have to unfuck what you did first in order to fix it
Not really, it will just cost more, if I have to fix more issues. But professional mechanics are the same, if they can't find a reason why something ain't right, they will too try to find someone who knows more. Because there is no shame in getting help, the problem is when you don't accept that someone else could be right.
It's funnier when they try and charge for a diagnosis but yet you already told them what was wrong with it

@@yoursmokedetectoryea. But at the same time can't keep business being a mechanic if nothing ever broke
@@yoursmokedetector mechanics don't really do that.

KNOCK KNOCK ITS THE US AND WE HEARD YOU HAVE OIL

As a driveway mechanic this is so true.
As not a driveway mechanic, I am missing my car already, why did my clutch have to give out :(
@MCD10000 because you're a bad driver
(im joking, please dont take it seriously)
Dang. I need to replace most of my suspension :( but I get to put in coil overs so I’m not to mad
@@TylerTMG lmao that was a good one.
Nah the oil leaks just show that you know it's nothing serious. "It's fine, it only leaks 1/4 quart between oil changes"
If it leaks oil it has oil
if the blue smoke comes out the tail pipe you have oil if white smoke comes out you have coolant if it rolls coal you have fuel

if a vehicle is shaking in the front end and the steering wheel doesn’t move its mounts or a misfire and has nothing to do with your suspension
What if it's all of the above

I may be a driveway mechanic but my dad has 30 years plus of experience so I'll be fine
I immediately thought those aftermarket coilovers snapped, engine mounts, or just the cap to the strut mount assembly could be loose.

I’m a shade tree mechanic and I’ve never brought my truck to a professional 😅
Germany we say Pfusch zu duct, Tape😂
1000 dollars later
If its leaking oil, its got oil 😅

I leave a roll of vlue shop towels in the back. They never try to upcharge me lol
If you have to take it to a mechanic, you're not experienced enough to argue much.

It really do be like this
Zip ties
